Amanda, Kurt, and Meggan have a sibling catch up day while they’re snowed in.

"Food's here!" Amanda called as she kicked the door to Meggan's suite instead of knocking. It was one of their regular sibling catch up days, where they ate together and shared what had happened to whom. With the snow they'd decided to stay in this time - all the better for Kurt not having to wear an inducer - and Amanda had put together what she called "basic protein and carbs". Otherwise known as pasta with meat and vegetable sauce. In her hands was a large covered pot, steam escaping from the edges of the lid.

At the signal of the familiar door thump, Meggan immediately opened the door. It was just far too cold to go out, even with Meggan’s love of snow. Sometimes there was too much of it, and hot cocoa must rectify the chill. At the sight of the pot with steam and the wonderful smell, she moved to help Amanda with it. “I put down bowls and plates already; I’m just getting to the cocoa cups and forks for this.”

Kurt was behind her, grinning.

"It smells delicious, so I hope we are all hungry."

"Well, it's hot and we don't have to go outside for it, so that's a plus," was Amanda's response as she came in and set the pot down on the counter. "Don't expect too much more than that."

“Hot food’s better than frozen solid today,” Meggan smiled in agreement. Trying to trek into town would make them all regret it within just a few minutes. She put one of the pink and orange polka dotted plates beside Amanda’s pot, while the other two remained stacked atop each other until they were needed. She moved to get to the cupboard for the cups.

Kurt started laying out the forks, for something to do with his hands.

"And while I could avoid the cold, doing that does tend to spoil the appetite."

Meggan moved to pour hot cocoa into each of the waiting cups. She still had more than enough left over for a third after she filled the second cup nearly to the top. Before she started on the third, she realized what she had forgotten. “There’s some cinnamon sticks in the cupboard next to your left hand, if you want to get them or marshmallows for this, Kurt.”

"Oh, yes", he said easily, moving to get them. "Both, I think, then each can pick their own."

Or spoil themselves and have both, that too.

"Neither, for me," Amanda said as she ladled out food onto the plates. "I've been chewing on cinnamon sticks all week after the mission with Topaz. Had to distract myself somehow and it's been too bloody cold to smoke." The incident with Topaz' powers and her subsequent bout of withdrawals had been communicated to both siblings when it happened.

Meggan almost didn’t want to put a cinnamon stick in hers if it tempted Amanda, but it could easily be covered by little bits of marshmallow floating in the cocoa. She wasn’t really bothered by marshmallows anymore, at least. “I’ll do a piece of the stick and half a marshmallow, and see how that tastes when it’s all mixed up,” she said as she finished pouring the last cup and handed it over to Kurt.

He wrapped his hands around it contentedly, then freed one to pull out the chairs.

"There, everything is ready."

"Then let this Official Family Bonding Time begin!" Amanda said with a flourish of her fork before sitting down and pulling her plate, piled high, before her. She focused on shoving a large mouthful in and chewing before mumbling, indistinctly. "So, who first for the weekly update? Bags not me."

Meggan passed Amanda the remaining cup, before she turned to getting the first bite of her own pasta. Even without the first sip, she concluded that cocoa was the perfect amount of warmth to keep hands toasty. “This is perfect,” she said around her own bite.

Kurt was already digging into as well, before it cooled.

"It is. And I nominate Meggan."

Meggan didn’t have much important news for their weekly update session, and was mostly thankful everyone was here in one piece. However, she was doing well with her course load, and that was something to be celebrated, wasn’t it? She swallowed a mouthful of pasta, before she could talk. “The good news of the week is I passed my midterm exams, even the tough ones. The bad news is—well, I can’t really think of anything right now, if I’m passing them.”

She wasn’t bragging, because as of this moment, she was getting the right grades, unless something too confusing was sprung upon her. The marine biology path was fascinating to her. “Your turn,” Meggan told Kurt as she moved to drink her cocoa. The meat and vegetable sauce was delicious, yes, but she didn’t want her hot cocoa to become cold.

He gave her a smile and a hug at that. "Congratulations, baby sister. As for my news, there is little enough since the last time. Which is good in its own way, certainly."

"Well done, Meg." Amanda beamed at the empath. "And Kurt... any closer to a date for the wedding?"

"Not yet", he admitted. "I am starting to wonder if anybody would object very much if we just ran away for a quick service, and the party later."

Meggan really, really wanted to see the ceremony, but understood if it was too large of a scale to get through the planning stages with everybody’s sanity intact. She had seen enough it on television to guess that. “My objection wouldn’t be too huge if it all worked out. Amanda?”

"As long as there's an open bar at the after party, I can't see anyone having issues," Amanda replied, perhaps a little evasively. Kurt's impending marriage to Jubilee was still something she was trying to get used to. "And no big do means no poofy dress for me, at least."

"I would not have made you wear a poofy dress in any case", he said, laughing. "It might even have been one you wanted to keep to wear again later."

"See, you I trust. Jubes? She might think it's funny to make me look like a Disney princess." Amanda glanced at Meggan with a grin. "No offence. I know you love the Disney stuff."

“None taken,” Meggan laughed. “She might find something with a neon bow…or maybe glitter stuck to a piece of a Disney princess dress, too. Just for you.” And then the glitter would spread all over everyone else, and never ever leave.

She almost wanted to beg Kurt to stick to a ceremony, so she could see that, but resisted. Barely.

Kurt couldn't help laughing at that image.

"Well, such things are the bride's prerogative, but I would try to talk her out of it."

Amanda pulled a face and shuddered at the mental image Meggan had conjured. "If you can't, I may not be responsible for what I do to her later," she warned jokingly. "She's been dropped into garbage bins before - any glitter involved will get her a swim in New York's sewers. I have a symbiotic relationship with the city and I'm not afraid to use it."
