Warren takes Darcy out for a nice dinner and a conversation about paying for law school.

Darcy eyed her appearance critically, hoping she was dressed enough for wherever Warren was taking her for dinner. She grabbed one of her tamer scarfs, winding it around her neck before grabbing her bag and a jacket. Satisfied with everything, she opened the door, almost running into Warren as she did. "Well damn, if I don't have some of the nicest mancandy in the state tonight," she stated with a grin as she gave him a once over.

Warren appreciated the once over. Darcy was an enigma to him -- someone who had fallen so far from grace and yet didn't seem to care. It was interesting. "Only the state?" He raised an eyebrow. "I would think the whole country, but we can discuss that further."

With a half bow, he extended his arm. "Shall we? I got us reservations at 4 Charles."

"But I'd have to find the top mancandy in the other 49 states to compare if you wanted a national title, and that would take forever. Easier to just hand you the state title," she teased back, taking the offered arm. "4 Charles? What's their specialty?"

"You really are out of the society loop, aren't you," Warren responded with a chuckle. "Prime rib. You seem like a girl that enjoys her food and that's fantastic. I don't understand the salad thing. Why buy two meals when you can have one that makes you so full that you have to take your pants off after?"

"Out of the expensive meal loop, definitely." Darcy definitely enjoyed her food, but not always the exercise that kept her with just some extra fluff. "A salad's nice sometimes, though. Prime rib sounds amazing though, and it'll be a good test for this supposed longwear lipstick."

Warren gave a grin. He could go so many places with that comment, but it was better he didn't. Not quite yet. Bobbi probably wouldn't approve.

"Well, I'll let you know if your meat turns a fantastic shade of burgundy, ‎which, by the way, suits you well."

Darcy dabbed at her lips as she finished her steak, grimacing a little as her lip color stained the white linen. "Well, I don't think my lipstick got all over the steak, but it's not entirely steak proof either," she said as she folded her napkin. "You said something about dessert, though?"

Warren nodded approvingly. The dinner had gone very well, and he wondered why he hadn't spoken to Darcy more in the past. She was lovely, and very well-educated -- two things that Warren had always noticed but hadn't registered. "Yes, there is always room for dessert. I'm afraid I have a sweet tooth," he admitted. "Besides, I believe that, while we have had a lovely time, we haven't discussed the real purpose behind this dinner: your request for education funding. Tell me more."

Darcy took a deep breath to center her thoughts before letting the words tumble out. "Okay so, I was mostly joking about the law school part, because goodness knows the idea of me lawyering should induce pants-wetting terror." She waved off the idea with a wry grin. "I did graduate in the top fifteen percent of my class at Culver with a double major in Communications and Political Science, and I've got experience working in the field as well, so I'm sure there's something useful I can do for you with further study."

"Impressive." And he meant it. Picking up his fork, he raised an eyebrow. "But I like how you added 'what I can do for YOU', which implies I'm going to give you a job afterwards."

She lifted one shoulder in a half-shrug. "May as well make myself useful to you if you're paying for further education, honestly. I'm sure Worthington Industries has a fleet of stellar lobbyists and PR, but another one in your pocket wouldn't hurt."

Warren nodded thoughtfully. "And if my interests and your interests don't coincide?"

Darcy took a bite of her dessert, letting the chocolate melt on her tongue as she thought about the question. "Compromise is one of the first things you learn working for politicians," she responded wryly. "As long as you're not asking me to go completely against my beliefs I can be an adult about it. I'll probably ask why and argue with you, because I like to think I'm a useful minion, not a yes-woman."

"I like you more and more." He leaned back in his chair and drummed his fingers on the table. "Alright. I can get with this. I'll give you the money for law school, on the condition that you work for me for a year to pay it off, so to speak. I'll give you a pay, don't worry about that. But if things go down, and I have to jump ship, you're jumping ship with me."

"I'll make sure to keep a pair of flotation devices on me at all times while working for you, just in case." The deal worked out great for her, and she could think of worse people to get tied up with. "I guess all we need to do is draw up a contract outlining terms and responsibilities?"

Warren waved her comment off. "If you want. It doesn't matter to me. You try to screw me over and you'll regret it for the rest of your life. If it's your protection you're after though, I'll see if Matt will do me a solid and do up some paperwork. I'd rather avoid having others know our agreement before I'm ready."

"Whatever works. School coverage and terms of repayment for breach can always be worked into a standard employment contract. That my nation is tied to you, specifically..." Darcy trailed off with a vague hand gesture. "Well, we'll know what the score is there."

He lifted his glass. "I'll drink to that. Let's hope this will be a profitable partnership."

Darcy lifted her glass with a grin, tapping it lightly to Warren's. "I'll drink to that."
