Lorna and Hope plan to reorganize the case filing system.

"No... no... no... that's not it either." With sigh Hope pushed close the drawer of the file cabinet and went on to the next drawer. Each file was neatly alphabetized and had colored markers stuck on them, but that was not really helping her finding the types of files she wanted.

"Looking for something?" Lorna came into the room with a box of papers. "Pretty much have the place memorized."

"Yes, but not really finding it..." Hope pushed a lock of hair that had escaped her bun out of her face and flipped open the first file. "I am looking for a pattern... doing some research on a stolen art piece and I wanted to check our other files on cases involving thefts... It's just... I have to check every file to see what type of case it is!"

"Hmm..." Lorna lowered the box to the ground and put a finger into her chin. "So you are saying we should somehow organize it to the type of cases. It would make sense for new employees. But I recall one other case that had to do with stolen art pieces." Walking over to the far file and opening it up. "Here you go." Putting the file on top. "Have any suggestions on how to organize it to the type of case so it wouldn't get lost without a major overhaul of all the filing? I feel like Warren would think we are just messing up the office just to spite him."

"Thank you." Hope took the file from her, quickly flipping through it before quickly putting it on her desk. "This looks like it might be useful. And how to organize that? I need to think on that for a moment. And I need to know what the colored stickers stand for..."

"Color coded is meant for the month and year." She pointed to the different color. "Maybe..." Lorna took a step back. "I wonder if we have enough filing cabinets to make it work...or we could do another color code for type of case. But that would be difficult as there is so many different kind of cases and some that are multiple types."

"True..." Hope agreed. "But there must be some general categories. Missing person cases, thefts, domestic investigations. And it does not have to be another color code... that would make things only complicated. Some kind of symbol on the outside..."

"A symbol?" Lorna thought about it. "If it was it would have to be easy to remember. We are working with Warren."

"We can make a legend for him to put on or near the drawers. But if he remembers the colors, I am sure he can remember a few symbols as well." Hope pushed the drawer closed and moved over to her desk, pulling over an extra chair. "Have a seat. Let's figure out if we can come up with some coherent system of symbols"

"Should we do shapes? Or computer symbols like the 'At' sign or the 'pound' sign?"

"Each could work." Hope pulled out a sheet of paper and sketched out a few of each. "It is hard to decide without knowing how many of them we will need... if I am honest..."

"Not too many. Like you said, missing persons, thefts, domestic, we don't do too many in anything else."

"We have done a corporate thing or two. Like a background check or minor fraud." Hope pointed out while adding them to the notes she had already taken. "And missing persons and the other... we might have to split them up a little more... like teens, adults. Domestic varies from finding if someone was cheating to tracking down missing funds."

"But for the corporate, is it enough to have its own little symbol? Or should we just file it away? And for the missing persons and domestic, we really don't have to split them a whole lot. Just the major topics, we can always put a note on the tab if we want to go further. I mean yes, I like the idea of having symbols to help determine but if we keep going down this path it could be just plain confusing to remember everything."

"We could go with only a few to start out with..." Hope considered her sketches for a moment. "Honestly, I think it will probably sort itself out in practice. If further sorting is needed, it will show itself when we use it."

"Trail and error. We can also send out an email with the new changes as well as pinning it to the file cabinet. I know at least one person who won't read it." Her thoughts turned to a blonde boy.

"And one who might ignore it completely." Hope added. "I will get some stickers made and then we can start sorting. We can also ask if there is someone who want to help us sort through the files."

"We might have to draw names. Sorting through files is not everyone's cup of tea." Lorna nodded, "But it sounds like a plan."
