Graffiti vandalized store
May. 22nd, 2017 12:00 pmAlex and Lorna go check out a report about some anti-mutant graffiti and get some great help along the way...
"Jesus," Alex muttered, staring dismally at the shop display window with "DIE MUTIES" spray painted across it. The shop's door had been broken, the inside vandalized. Despite the security system, the police had "mysteriously" been late to arrive. The vandals had been long gone.
Leaving it to XFI to figure out what had happened.
"Too bad there aren't more of us," Alex said with a sigh as he and Lorna started down the street, trying to find people to talk to. "We could do... IDK, nightly patrols or something."
Lorna looked at Alex with the look of, 'you didn't just use text speech to me'. "Uh, no. I don't get much sleep but I like my sleep when I do. Plus we have a wedding to plan." Looking around, "Maybe some people over there saw anything." Gesturing over to some people who were just standing idly by.
"I think a little lost sleep would be worth it." Bystanders and observers. Always fun to talk to. "Let's check it out." He started toward the group. "Yo! Anyone know anything about that?" He waved a hand at the vandalized shop.
"Humans," one young man sneered in a way that made Alex flashback to nearly every conversation he'd ever had with Quentin Quire. "Assholes troll around here every night looking for people to fuck with."
"Alright. That limits to everybody in New York, if not the world." Lorna sassed under her breath. "How about, male or female? How many were there? What color hair? Skin? Clothes?"
Melissa had been in the area a while, tension was rising on the street and this latest vandalism had been the latest 'high' in the city. Police had been useless and she doubted that they would deal with this, though there where now two people investigating this case and asking questions. The other bystanders had been rather helpful so far, so Melissa took off her headphones.
"Three males, one female which was on lookout duty and quite bad at it i must say. They where wearing dark clothes and hoodies. Police was to late as usual, so why are you detectives just now coming to ask around after the fact?, would have been better if this mess was prevented instead of having to be solved."
Alex raised an eyebrow at the woman even as he jotted down everything she said. "Unfortunately, we're not the police or affiliated with them, so there's only so much we can do," he said smoothly. "We hear about these things at the same time you do, and we do what we can to help."
"We work at X-Factor Investigations. Our office is a few blocks away." Lorna pulled out her card and handed it to the younger girl. "You can say we have a soft spot for District-X an the people in it. I am Lorna and this is Alex. What is your name?"
Melissa took the card and looked it over. "Name is Mimi, and I do hope that aside from just having a fancy company name and a soft spot you can actually help out." She gestured towards the vandalized shop. "Tensions are rising, and if this keeps up, sooner or later we are going to get caught in the crossfire."
Lorna couldn't help but smirk, if only Mimi knew. "Don't worry. The case is in good hands."
"We care about this community too," Alex assured Mimi. "It's not just a soft spot. And we're going to do everything we can." He produced a business card from his jacket pocket, handing it over. "This is our office number. If you remember anything else, give us a call."
"I hope you do, I'm risking retaliation just by talking to you after all, so I got something riding on this." Melissa took the card Alex was offering her. "I'll call if I remember anything else" She turned to walk away, setting her headset back on her head, then hesitated for a second. "... look for an old red shelby mustang with a skulled rabbit icon on it's side."
Lorna nodded and looked over at Alex, "Now that is someone who is every detectives dream. Come on, we have a bunny mustang to find."
