Darcy and Topaz talk blind date annoyances and hypothetical revenge.
Darcy hummed to herself as she grabbed a roll of dough from the freezer, poking it experimentally to make sure it was set. She nodded to herself and turned to close the door, yelping and smacking herself in the chest with the roll as she almost ran into another person. "What the heck? You need a bell, lady!"
Normally Topaz would have jumped back, apologized, and have felt properly bad for nearly giving Darcy a heart attack. "Sorry," she said shortly, walking around the woman without missing a beat and yanking open the fridge door with a surprising amount of force. She needed to go shopping, as usual. She had been planning on doing that after lunch with Tandy.
That plan had gone out the window when she had discovered Tandy's little surprise.
"No need to apologize, I was just startled," Darcy replied, unwrapping the dough and cutting it into thin slices. "You alright? I can practically feel the bad mood cloud following you around. If I was making bread I'd offer to let you punch it down and get your feelings out."
"Yeah, I'm fine." Topaz said shortly. After a moment she slammed the fridge shut again without actually taking anything out. "Hypothetically," she said pointedly, "if you had a friend, and you thought they needed to get out more, would you think the best way to get them to go out would be to trick them into going on a blind date?"
Darcy muffled a snort of laughter. "Hypothetically, I'd probably do something mean like saran wrap their toilet or something, because I hate being surprised by shit like that," she replied honestly. "If I knew it was a blind date in advance, that'd be one thing, but just springing it on me???? Nope. I'd be pissed."
"Right. So if you showed up at a coffee shop expecting your friend, and instead get a boy who weirdly already knows your name and what you look like, even though you've never met him before in your life, that would probably be grounds for, say, lighting the friend's bed on fire? Possibly while she's in it?" Topaz paused before adding, "Hypothetically."
"Well, maybe not fire—" The oven dinged, interrupting Darcy's train of thought. She slid the fresh cookies off the pan. "What was I saying? Right. Not fire. Pranking though, definitely. Maybe cover their bed in sand and glitter. Or kitty litter, because I'm mean."
"Oh but fire is so much more cathartic,"Topaz muttered. After a moment, she sighed. "I'm not going to set her bed on fire. It's tempting, though. I just can't believe her. Fine, maybe I don't get out enough, but tricking me into a blind date isn't the answer."
"Blind dates are something that need a head's up. Being pissed is a totally valid response." Darcy rummaged through the cupboards while she replied, snapping a cupboard shut when she couldn't find what she was looking for. "Where's a damn tea kettle in this kitchen when you want one?"
"Third cabinet to the left of the stove, below the counter." Topaz leaned against the counter, shaking her head. "I want to be mad at her, but I know she just worries about me. A little warning would have been nice, though."
"Ah-ha!" Darcy grabbed the kettle from it's hiding spot and filled it, setting it triumphantly on the stove and turning it on. "I would be mad. I mean, I'd get that my hypothetical friend was coming from a place of care, but having it sprung on me? They'd need to do some groveling to get back in my good graces. Dinner, ice cream, maybe a movie." She smiled at Topaz. "Speaking of, once my tea is done I was planning on teacakes and movies, wanna join me?"
"No, I'm..." Topaz's voice drifted off, and after a moment she changed tracks. "Sure. Why not? Sounds like fun. As for my hypothetical friend... definitely at least dinner. We'll see how generous I'm feeling after that."
Darcy smiled widely as the kettle whistled. "Great! Grab the platter. I'll pour us a cup and meet you on the couch."
"Yes ma'am," Topaz said, grabbing the platter as directed and heading for the rec room.
