Amanda, Tandy and Ty face down a brace of Disir opponents.
The leader of the three Disir that they'd arrayed themselves against hissed at the sight of Tandy's blade, and their spearheads wove tight figure eights as they advanced.
Amanda watched the three warily. "I have no idea if Valkyrie ghosts can hurt us or not, but we're not taking any chances," she said to the other two. Don't let them touch you, if you can help it, and avoid getting stuck by those pigstickers of theirs." As she spoke, her fingers were weaving patterns in the air, leaving glowing trails. She brought her hands together, palm against palm in front of her, and slowly drew them apart. Between her hands the outline of a sword appeared and when she plucked it out of the air, it turned solid. It looked almost like a machete, plain and unadorned and very, very dangerous looking - short blade and handgrip wrapped in seasoned leather. "I'll shield you when I can, but watch each other's backs."
"It seems they recognized my blade." Tandy tighten her grip on her sword's hilt, it had not seen battle since her days in Asgard. The crescent moon around her right eye started to glow brightly. "Shall we dance?" She looked over at Amanda and then over at Ty. "Just like old times." Lifting her left hand and sent five light daggers towards the Disir before starting to advance their opponents.
Ty reached out both arms to gather the encroaching night into hungry shadows. "This brings back some memories," he said grimly. The shadow rose up, and crashed like a wave toward the Disir.
They didn't try to dodge, instead pulling back just as little as the wave of ebon crashed into them. But unlike the light daggers they flinched from, the shadows flowed past them. They were creatures of the unlife; not alive and not dead, long past the place the darkness could touch them. As one, they charged.
"Ghosts don't like light. Got it." Amanda didn't time to say more than that before the Disir were on them. "Ty, looks like you're using weapons instead of powers this time. Hope you learned that stuff in Asgard." She grunted as she blocked a spear thrust with her sword, the contact giving off sparks of neon and the smell of hot tar on a summer's day.
Ty made a face, and night returned to dusk as he drew back and released the shadows. He pulled a rather large axe from a sling on his back. "Time to make Nox proud."
Tandy blocked an attack from one of the Disir with her sword. With her other hand she unleashed five more light daggers, three of the five she had aimed at her immediate opponent. The other two light daggers made a beeline straight for the other two Disir.
Tandy's opponent howled as the light daggers struck her and lashed out at the blonde with her spear. The Disir's speed made the movement a blur, and the Asgardian strength behind it spelt trouble for the young woman if it connected.
Putting her strength into the block as the spear sweep towards her once more. She winced as her sword connected with the Disir, causing Tandy to be pushed back even if her feet were not moving. Ignoring the pain she was feeling in her right arm, Tandy held her ground as best she could against an dead Asgardian. The Disir put more pressure on Tandy, hoping to break through the strength the mortal was putting on. "Lig..ht....spell..." She managed to say.
Amanda herself was hard-pressed by another of the Disir, dodging spear thrusts and hacking away at the shaft of the weapon with her sword to try and even things up. "I should have brought a gun," she muttered to herself, then heard Tandy's gasp for help. Snapping her fingers, she called up her werelight - it was the only light spell she could manage without both hands free. "George, sic 'em," she instructed and the ball of light, puffed up to the size of a tennis ball and echoing the glare of halogen street lights and car headlights and police helicopter search lights, zoomed straight at the face of the Disir.
With a shriek the fallen Valkyrie fell back, swatting at the globe of light that seemed intent on blinding her. George followed, zooming around the wraith's head like a demented firefly. On steroids.
Sweat poured down Ty's face and each blow he met crashed through his muscles and bones. He used every part of his axe in the fight, struggling to get the upper hand. He could meet the Disir blow for blow, but while they never seemed to tire, he felt his own energy waning rapidly. In an attempt to get some breathing room, he pushed into his next swing, attempting to drive the Disir back a few steps.
The Disir fell back for a moment, and then lunged forward against his axe, toppling them both by tackling him to the ground.
When the Disir fell away from her Tandy took this opportunity to take her out. <"Forgive me, sister."> She said in Asgardian before aiming her hand straight at her and unleashed enough light of her own that could kill a human. Turning towards Ty just as he was tackled down to the ground, "Ty!" She gripped the hilt of her sword with both her hands as she started to charge towards the Disir that was on Ty.
Ty kept his weapon between himself and his enemy. He struggled to find leverage, to get back on his feet, or at least out from under the Disir.
The Disir was occupied with Ty and did not see the blonde charging up from behind. Tandy's sword slashed the Disir's back before raising her hand and unleashing the five daggers directly into the open back. The Disir went limp after that. "You alright?" Holding out a hand for Ty before looking around for Amanda.
The witch was in trouble, being pushed back as she tried to block spear thrusts. Not all of her attempts had been successful - there was a tear in the sleeve of her leather jacket, and something wet glistened in the dim light. But before Tandy or Ty could intervene, she let out a small growl: "Fuck this for a game of soldiers." And with that she disappeared into the ground beneath their feet, only to reappear behind the Disir. Before it could rally, she struck, stabbing her sword through the creature's back. The point erupted from the Disir's chest and it fell to the ground. No blood came from the wound, nor was there any on Amanda's sword.
"Right," Amanda said, disappearing her sword by 'smooshing' it between her hands. "That's three down. Let's hope the others are doing so well."
