Scott and Logan go fishing and end up stumbling upon the vandals' camp

It was perfect weather. This trees provided the perfect amount of shade, the light breeze kept the mosquitos at bay, and the smell of the forest floor was abundant. Even the lake barely stirred as the two men set up their fishing gear. It was clear though that fishing was the last thing on both their minds.

If looks could kill then the fishing rod in Scott's hands would have long burst into flames and shrivelled up into a charred husk. Instead it just sat there, brown and smooth taunting him with, if it had been alive it would have been smug...he wasn't entirely sure that it wasn't anyway. "How exactly did I let you talk me into this? The last time my grandad took me fishing we almost fell into the river trying to catch a trout...if we end up river diving..."

Logan kept an eye on Scott, while he was sure he likely knew how to fish that didn't mean he was any good at it. At least the sight of Scott trying to glare the fishing rod into submission was what he'd come expecting to see. Logan grinned. "'Cause you're a sucker for Kitty." He laughed. "I'm not that desperate to catch some fish. It's mostly to listen to the water and forget the world outside it exists. So don't twist yourself all into knots.

Scott gave his rod a glare before he looked over at the other man and gave him a rueful smile, "You're not wrong," he admitted before a smirk touched his lips, "although seems like little Rogue has you wrapped around her little finger too. I mean after everything that you two have been through I never figured that to happen." Scott reached out to lightly punch the man on the shoulder, "I never said congratulations."

Logan scowled at the water then shrugged. "Still not 100% sure how we ended up here, really. You're not wrong in that it's been a long, complicated road." He pulled back on the rod and cast it out again. If you got down to the details, there was a lot people would probably find objectionable about their relationship.

"Yeah, seems that way for both of us, I have no idea how Kitty and I managed to end up like this," Scott allowed letting a companionable silence drift over the water. Here, away from the crowd with one of the few men who could understand he found himself more willing to talk to Logan than he had ever been before. "Who would have guessed we'd both end up here like this?"

Logan chuckled. "You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who would've taken those bets. We're not the easiest people or live the most predictable lives." Logan glanced at their surroundings. It looked peaceful enough but the hair on the back of his neck was itching.

Scott laughed even as his eyes tracked over Logan's face, following the man's gaze to the shore. "Well I guess it must be true what they say about the spice of life, it's the only explanation really."

"Yeah, no kiddin'." The water was killing any scent trace he might get but looking at the shoreline there were only a few spots that would look inviting to people. He'd eliminated a few of them when something caught his attention. He scowled as he tracked the boat into view.

As the boat's engine flared to life, the thrum of the engine shattering the placid silence of the lake as the little boat cut across the water, almost skipping as it left a foamy white ripple in its wake. As the boat drew closer to the shore Scott could pick out some figures standing there around a truck talking animatedly waving sticks and gesticulating towards the woods...only those weren't sticks. The sunlight glinted off the metal barrels of the rifles and Scott felt a shard of ice drop into his stomach, "Oh, this looks like trouble."

Logan grimaced. "'Course it is. We can't even go on vacation without findin' trouble. Question is what're we gonna do about it...."
