A random encounter in the rec room leads to talk about Asgard, teams and powers.
Molly liked to hang out in the rec room because it had a GIANT television, perfect for playing video games. While in the middle of playing Prey (and getting some awesome ideas), she paused it to grab a snack. But as she came back into the rec room, her phone fell out of her pocket and rolled under the couch.
Eyes widening, Molly set down her stuff on a table and grabbed the couch, lifting it over her head so she could grab her phone.
"Please don't be cracked, please don't be cracked..." she said under her breath in prayer.
Walking past the rec room on her way back from dinner, Nica glanced in and then paused. No matter how long she lived here, seeing people casually using their powers still boggled her. And gave her a slightly fan-girly thrill. "Uh, need any help with that? she asked, smiling slightly.
Molly glanced over, grinning broadly. "That would be awesome, thanks! Can you grab my phone, please? It kinda got eaten by the couch," she said. Her eyes were glowing purple as held the couch as easily as someone who were holding a toy car over their head.
"Sure." Nica came in and ducked under the aerial couch to pick up Molly's phone. Stepping away so Molly could put it back down, she glanced at the screen. "Looks like you got away without any damage," she commented. "No cracks, least as far as I can see."
Molly deflated like a balloon in relief, her eyes lighting up with surprised excitement.
"Really?! Yes! That's great! Thanks!" she said, pumping her fists. She plopped back down on the couch.
"I can totally turn it to something else if you were wanting to watch something. The TV's so big, though. It makes video games look like real life," she said, nodding to the screen, where there appeared to be a first person perspective of a space station, and a giant electric black monster thing about to attack, or it would've had it not said PAUSED across the screen.
"Nah, I'm good. You do you." Nica joined Molly on the couch. "That was pretty impressive, the whole picking up the couch thing," she remarked, trying to go for casual and failing miserably.
Tilting her head, Molly forgot that not everyone knew she was super strong. This...was...AWESOME! Molly grinned. "Thanks! I can lift a car too! And I also lifted a building once." She paused. "Sorta." Do sorta real/astral simulations count? She extended her hand. "I'm Molly, by the way. What do you do? I bet it's cool."
Nica shook the proffered hand, her grip firm and confident, the way her father had taught her. "Nica. We were sort of in Gen X together, but I did most of my training with the high school kids, up until this year." She grinned, much in the same way Molly had. "As for what I can do... the science guys have narrowed it down to 'absorbing and taking on the attributes of various electro-magnetic wavelengths'," she replied with a slight roll of her eyes at the scientific language. "Which means, basically, this." And with that, she let herself become visible light, rising in the air above the couch and glowing brightly.
Molly's eyes widened. "Dude, electro-magnetic?" she said, leaning in curiously. Something was going on behind her eyes. Her mind was running in circles with ideas. "You mean like...EMP?" She shook her head. "Oh...I'm like...science, girl I guess? I make stuff. Sorry I didn't remember you with Gen X and stuff...I kinda mostly hang out with the X-People. When I was younger there wasn't as many people my age..."
Then a lot of people died. But she didn't need to know that. "...so I got used to being with the adults or by myself, y'know?"
Nica let herself float back down to the couch and solidify, then shrugged a little - it was like when she was with Reed and Hank, working on her powers. "Something like that, but we're still working on how far along the spectrum I can do. So far it's visible light and x-rays. Dr. Hank and Dr. Reed are helping me, which means they talk a lot of science and I smile and nod and wait for someone to translate." She snorted. "I'm not much of a science type, so it figures I get the science power."
Reaching over on the side of the couch, Molly grabbed a bag of chips and took a handful, then offered her the bag. "That is still totally awesome! Plus? There's a ton of cool songs out there with light in them so....built in soundtrack!" she beamed. Then, an idea struck her.
"Have you met Tandy yet? She makes light daggers. Maybe she could teach you some tricks?"
"I've seen her around, but I haven't really talked to her," Nica replied, grabbing a handful of chips from the proffered bag. "Alison converts sound into light - we train together sometimes. Where do Tandy's light daggers come from? What does she use as a power source?"
Molly tried to throw a chip up into the air and catch it in her mouth. It bounced off her nose and landed on her chest.
"Herself, I think?. Like...she has to use them a lot or she gets kinda sick. The light kinda builds up," she said, casually grabbing the missed chip and popping it into her mouth.
"It was awesome at night when we were in Asgard. Buuuut....it was kinda bad in Asgard when we were trying to hide from trolls in the dark."
"Asgard?" Nica paused in the action of stuffing a chip in her own mouth. "Seriously?"
Molly grinned a little. excited that she was excited. "Yep! We lived there for a bit...long story....But it was totally cool. Like Lord of the Rings, except with like....hoverstuff," she said. She tried to toss another chip up in the air, and this one landed on her forehead. Making a face, she popped it in her mouth too.
"If you ever get stuck there, though? Try to get back really fast, cause time is weird there."
"How do you mean?" Nica asked, snorting at Molly's chip eating attempts. "Were you like five before you went and now you're an adult?"
Molly shook her head, inspecting another chip like she would a diamond. "Nah. Not that much. Well...kinda a lot. So like...I went when I was 16 and a month passed here but two years passed there so when I came back I was 18. But I went to other places outside-a Asgard too...so I didn't age as much as Tandy and Ty, who went too. But Asgardians are kinda Gods...mostly, so they don't age like we do and it doesn't matter as much to them."
She scrunched her nose.
"So...yeah," she said with a laugh. "Also, avoid guys in green with gold horn helmets. The guy is a jerk-a-saurus."
"Just when you think this place can't get any weirder..." Nica shook her head. "You'd think superpowers would be enough, but no, there's magic and Asgard and other dimensions and who knows what else."

"Ghosts....Slendermen...Giant robots....Tiny robots...Fishpeople....Giant crabs...Knights..." Molly said thoughtfully, checking off things on her fingers before she paused, biting her lip sheepishly.
"Sorry. That probably didn't help."
"Oh, I'm not put off," Nica told her philosophically. "I'm a good little girl scout, be prepared and all that jazz. It helps, knowing what might be out there, especially if I'm going to be on the team fighting it."
Molly grinned. "Dude, you want to be an X-Person too? You are totally my favorite person!" she said, extending a hand out for a high five. "I'm uh....kinda an X-Person? Gen-X totally but I like....help out in a lot of places."
Nica high-fived the older girl with a grin of her own. "Oh, totally. Ever since that accident we helped out with a couple of years ago, I've been wanting to do more. Of course, I've had to work out my powers first, which is why it's taken so long." She scrunched up her nose. "Dr. Reed says I'm limited by my perceptions of the world and what's 'normal', but he doesn't exactly have a lot of advice on how to stop believing in stuff like reality."
Molly smirked. "Reed lives in his own reality," she said, then squinted. His own...Reed-ality. She giggled a little at herself but she didn't tell Nica her joke because she didn't want her to think she was a dork. "What does he think you're limited by? Like...how water is wet?"
"Kinda." Brow furrowed, Nica tried to explain. "According to him, because I can turn into light, for example, I should be able to behave like light. Generate heat, travel at the speed of... well, light, that sort of thing. Except he says me thinking I'm a person means I don't think I can do that, so I can't." She shrugged. "I like being a person. But flying at the speed of light might be awesome."
Grabbing a couple of chips, Molly stuffed them into her mouth, chewing thoughtfully.
"Huh. When I lift things that are super heavy it makes me reallly sleepy. Sometimes I pass out. How long can you like....turn into light? Do you get tired if you do it too long?' she said.
"A few hours," was the reply as Nica dipped her hand back into the bag of chips. "And I feel like crap afterwards. And hungry. It's like I purge all of my blood sugar or something when I go glowy or ghost too long. How about you? How much can you lift without passing out?"
Molly tapped her chin. "I dunno?" she admitted.
"It's changed a lot from when I was younger. One time I picked up a boulder and passed out and it totally fell on me Wadema--Wade totally freaked out. OhMyGod, so embarrassing! But then I practiced and practiced and started lifting heavier stuff and drank a LOT of soda or other stuff to stay awake if I'm like...fighting and now I can like....lift trucks really easy. Haven't tried to lift a building again, though," she said, suddenly craving a coke float. "Should probably figure that out in just in case. I still gotta sleep a long time after I use my strength but it got better, y'know? But like---I dunno, it sounds like you're using up your life juice too," she said. She tilted her head.
"How do you like...recharge? Like...food? Being around light?"
"When I've been using my powers actively for a while, I need food," the younger girl explained. "But I've noticed that I need to be around a certain amount of light, too. Dark winters suck, since I get sleepy a lot, but sun lamps can help. And... wait, did you say you lifted a building? Like, an apartment building or a house or what?" Curiosity sparked in Nica's eager expression.
Molly paused.
"Um...well...Technically?" she said. She made a face.
"It was an office building, I think? And....it was sorta...in the Astral Plane. But it was...like an alternate reality with rules like the real world....so if you died you were totally in trouble but...like...someone made a building fall on me me and I picked it up for like...two seconds and I passed out and...So it was in my mind? But not?"
She shoved some more chips in her mouth.
"If cunfoosing."
"It is," Nica agreed. "But it makes things around here a hell of a lot more interesting."
