Alex finds a skateboarding buddy.

Dom didn't know what had taken her in this particular direction this afternoon - the mansion grounds were big enough that you could just strike out and you'd find somewhere you had never seen before even if you'd been there for months. On this occasion she was sort of hoping for something diverting, since she was bored out of her mind recovering from a bad cough that had kept her out of the office for a few days and not even Netflix was cutting it anymore.

As she wandered past the outbuildings she could swear she heard a familiar noise, one that took her back to her high school years and all the awkward memories that entailed. Frowning, she pushed through the trees to see the skate ramp rising up in front of her like something straight out of her dreams; she had to resist pinching herself.

"Well I'll be damned," she commented, watching as a figure expertly balanced on the edge of the ramp, the drop imminent. "This place has everything."

A wild audience appears. Alex grinned, waving down at his new admirer before expertly dropping over the edge. He couldn't help but show off - it was in his nature. His moms had taught him some manners, though, so he only did like three or four tricks before finally stopping in the middle of the ramp. "Hey! Here to join me?" No one else really skateboarded around here, and the parks were full of asshole kids. It got lonely after a while.

"Yeah, I dunno about that," Dom said, eyeing the ramp dubiously. "It's been a long time since I was on a board, and I was never very good at it." She had spent most of her time hanging around the park and smoking; less effort had actually gone into trying to skate. "But you've got some nice moves. Come here a lot?"

"Every chance I get." Which was less often these days. But it was still his favorite place in the mansion. He flopped down to sit on the edge, board hanging loosely in his hand. "I built it when I got here. Took months to get it perfectly done but it was worth it."

"You built all this? Impressive." For all that the mansion seemed to have endless amounts of cash flowing through it - Dom still wasn't sure where it all came from - the residents were an unusually self-sufficient bunch. "I guess that's one way to get it just the way you want it. So you're a... student? One of the X-teams?"

"X-Factor." Alex grinned. "One of the nosy PI people. Although I'm less PI and more cool guy or guy who punches things, as needed. Do you want to try? The ramp, I mean, not PI work. Or punching things. Although punching things is fun sometimes."

"Punching things I can get on board with. The ramp..." She eyed it dubiously, then gave a shrug. "Sure, what's the worst that can happen?"

Alex grinned, whipping off his helmet and handing it over. "that's the spirit. I promise it's okay to share a helmet with me, there's nothing horribly wrong with my hair. Hang on..." He set to work with getting his knees and elbow pads off for her as well. He was a daredevil, but safety was still important.

"Nah, don't worry about it," she said, waving a hand as she settled the helmet on her wavy hair. "Pretty sure my powers'll protect me from anything too serious."

Alex raised an eyebrow and hopped off the ramp, taking a few steps back. "Lezee, then."

It took her a moment to clamber up to the top of the ramp - it really was big, especially from this angle. Still, if her powers had taught her anything it was that nothing good happened without trying, and besides, she had been able to do this once upon a time. Surely she'd be able to manage now.

"Okay," she announced, hooking the edge of the board over the ramp and propping a foot on top of it, "you have to promise that if by some weird fluke I do die you have to make up some better story than 'wiped out after trying to relive her teenage years', all right?"

"Cross my heart," Alex said seriously, doing exactly that. "Whatever it is, it'll involve ninjas."

"Perfect." Without any further hesitation Dom shifted her weight, allowing the board to tip over the edge and then carry her down the ramp. She couldn't help an unsteady "ahhh!" as she zoomed down the curved side and up towards the other one. It was simultaneously terrifying and thrilling, the air whipping past her face, the stomach-dropping sensation of plunging down the smooth wooden surface. It couldn't last, of course. She made it partway up the other side of the ramp and then, as the board reversed and began to sucumb to gravity, she lost her balance and tumbled off. Luckily she seemed to fall just right and rolled to a halt in the middle of the ramp while giving a whoop of joy.

"Now _that's_ a rush!" she exclaimed, pushing herself up and looking over to Alex.

"Woohoo!" Alex cheered and clapped even as she made wiping out look like an art. "That was awesome!"

Dom grinned back at him. "I dunno about that, but it was fun. I'm gonna need a lot more practice before I make it to 'awesome'. Maybe you could give me some pointers?"

Alex couldn't have grinned harder if he tried. "Absolutely. Let's start off the ramp, though, might be easier."

"I'm all for that. Syd will never let me hear the end of it if I wipe out skateboarding and can't work."

"Skateboarding injuries are not a valid reason to miss work." Alex said that as if he spoke from experience. Because he did. "Let's get started."
