Matt trains Ev in the use of his powers in the Danger Room this time with more success.

"You ready to try again?" Matt asked, standing in the Danger Room with Everett to work on their powers once more. This time though, he thought it would go better since he knew more about how it felt. That is, more like how he felt when his powers first emerged versus where he was now. It was amazing how much could change in 15-odd years.

The sound of cracking his knuckles echoed in Ev's ears, almost drowning out Matt's words. Though he had acclimated to Matt's enhanced senses enough that he was not going deaf from every little noise, he still had yet to master filtering out background to focus on the important stimuli. Which was why he was covered with bruises from Matt's successfully landed blows and was going to need a few minutes synching to Kyle to heal those. He fell back into a fighting stance and nodded. "Hit me."

Next time, more padding for Everett. And more....something. Less something. How had he managed when he was a kid? Oh, right. He almost hadn't. He didn't want to hurt Ev, not more than bruises anyways, this wasn't some knock-down drag-out fight and it wasn't him and Clint rough housing. This was training. Moving slowly, trying to broadcast what was coming next, Matt shifted, arm coming out as he caught Everett on his bicep. "Block me," he said, "Listen for the change in air current. The change in my heartbeat. Focus on those two things. Or even one of those things."

"Easy to say when you've been doing this for half your life," Ev teased. He followed the blow, shifting the side of his body that Matt had hit so he fell into Ev's range. He felt Matt's body heat warm the air, signaling his proximity, so he returned the attack, aiming for Matt's sternum but instead catching him just above his kidney. A messy move, but it connected.

"Yeah, but I was 12 when I was trying to figure this all out on my own. It's all about focus," Matt reminded him with a grin, "Good! You connected!" And kidney hits weren't pain-free either. Rubbing that spot for a moment, he returned fire, going for the same place he had before. "Even if you don't hit where you want, you got that much closer."

Blindfolded, Ev did not see Matt's incoming fist, but he did hear Matt plant his feet and the minute change in air pressure that presaged the attack. This time, he deflected the punch, but to spare Matt further injury, Ev channeled his inner Clint and smacked Matt's face instead of punching him. "Now I think I'm getting it."

Time to up his game. "Better!" he agreed, this time adding more movement, feinting before he attacked again, kicking Everett's feet out from under him. "Feet are harder, sounds are more subtle lower to the ground, but you can't ignore them," he cautioned, offering Ev a hand up.

"I guess I deserved that. Maybe that was a little too familial." Ev accepted the hand before he realized he had perceived it non-visually. Had he expected Matt to help him or did he actually sense the offer? If the latter than he was getting better at this.

Pulling Ev up, Matt thought he was making good progress, "If it works, it works," Matt countered, twitching a couple fingers, "Come at me," he said, intentionally leaving the 'bro' part off. It never went well when he attempted that.

Up until now, they had been trading single blows at a time. That was about as much as Ev could handle as a neophyte. But he was acclimating more quickly to being blinded, so when Matt avoided his opening attack, Ev followed through with another, and pressed on even as Matt neatly dodged or deflected each one. It looked more like an actual display of martial arts than a hesitant student being shown up by his teacher.

"Yes, yes, keep it up," Matt encouraged, also giving Ev more noise to focus on, even as he danced across the floor, defensively avoiding and blocking the attacks. He wasn't giving Everett an opening to get through, but he was giving him plenty of opportunity to keep the attacks coming. "Gets easier the more you do it, keep coming. Anticipate...just like that! Better than being able to see in a lot of ways, isn't it?"

"I don't know if I'd go that far." Ev changed tactics mid-swing. He had been delivering single, discreet attacks that Matt could deflect, but now he feinted, switching from punches to kicks with lightning speed to throw Matt off balance. Ev could hear his heart pounding from the exertion, but it did not drown out the sound of Matt's. That made tracking him easy, and Ev pressed his offensive, slowly backing Matt into a corner. Ev smirked.

Ev had a point. Colours, he did miss colours sometimes. And detail. The detail he saw with his powers was incomparable in some ways, but it meant he couldn't see the obvious sometimes. Increasing his defense, Matt waited until he was in a corner, then used Everett as a gymnastics horse to get behind him. "Boo!" he teased.

Nearly getting a faceful of Matt's crotch as the younger man leaped over him was a terrible way to end a training session. Ev dropped his synch and untied the blindfold, blinking rapidly as his eyes readjusted to the light again. His head pounded from the strain of maintaining this synch for so long. "You got me. Damn, I'm going to need all the ibuprofen to get over this now."

"Drink?" Matt suggested, going to get their water bottles, "Harry's has a two-for-one special tonight."

Still rubbing his eyes to get used to sight again, Ev accepted his bottle but shook his head. "I don't drink. Carbs and empty calories. But I'll watch you drink and you can tell me about Clint as a teenager."

"Carbs are delicious and both will get worked off in the gym," Matt countered, not that he expected that to sway Everett. "But, deal. You're buying first round."
