Demon Bear: Claws for Alarm
May. 11th, 2018 08:41 amMaya, Rahne, Stephen, and Clea arrive at school - only to find that someone decided to have a bit of fun.
Maya could feel the headache building even before they reached the school. She was better at riding in cars these days but only after she’d taken a Xanax and spent much of the time with her eyes closed and her implants disconnected. It was easier to deal with everything if she could pretend she was somewhere else. Learning to drive herself had been a rather interesting exercise, in the Chinese curse sense of the word. She couldn’t wait to get through it so she could get herself a motorbike and never go near another car.
“Something’s wrong.” Maya noticed the crowd as they pulled into the student carpark, her lip curling upwards in distaste. She _hated_ crowds. “Who wants to bet it’s not about them cancelling tater-tot day in the canteen?”
"Wait," Stephen sat bolt upright in his seat, twisting around to stare at Maya in a playful mock horror. "They cancelled Tater-tot day? Why? How could they? Today's ruined, we should just turn around and go back home." The teenager straightened, staring at the crowd milling by the school entrance, "You know, there's only one really way to find out what's going on in there."
Rahne was already scooping up her backpack and was mentally preparing herself for the onslaught of the noise - generally school wasn't too bad but there were a lot of people gathered around the front of the school. More so than normal. "The tator-tots are probably safe but homeroom might be tossed depending on what all this is about." She frowned. "If it is bad enough to cancel school, wouldn't they have alerted us?"
Clea grabbed her bag and got out of the car. "They are moving into the..." As students entered there was a spray paint graffiti on the sigh. "I think someone trashed the school."
“Let’s just get inside.” Maya started toward the front entrance, having exited the car at the same time as Clea. She had no desire to stand around making up shit just to scare herself. Better to see what was going on first hand. “Come on. Maybe someone will set fire to the place and we’ll get some time off.”
Despite herself, Rahne rolled her eyes just a little bit where Maya couldn't see her but she didn't comment on the fire remark. Honestly, she just didn't have it in her to chide Maya and potentially start an entire thing. It was too early. Besides, she was curious about what was going on. "Come on, looks like there's room to the side in the crowd."
Stephen nodded, grabbing his bag and taking a step forward. "You know, I'm not exactly the biggest fan of school, but this is maybe taking it a little bit to far." The teen twisted around to stare at his friends, flailing one hand at the graffiti, "I mean come on, they can't even get the spelling right!"
Clea walked forward with her friends but inside the school didn't look much better. The janitors had cleaned up most of the toilet paper but there could be some seen dangling over the lockers. The worst was more spray paint on several lockers. It was then their history professor rushed by and disappeared into his classroom, muttering frantically.
“Someone had fun last night.” Maya’s tone was mild compared to the seeming panic of the history teacher as she watched him disappear, noting the sound of the bell. “Guess that’s our cue to get to class. Meet you all at lunch? We can compare notes.”
"Sounds like a plan," Stephen's head bobbed up and down as he glanced over his shoulder at the group, "don't forget we've got the movie plans tonight." The half turned to waggle a playful finger at Clea, "So no getting distracted with the other cheerleaders and the like, I wanna get good seats this time."
"Sure..." She said not really paying attention as she peered into the classroom and saw all the teachers things on the floor, smashed. "Poor guy. And he loved them." Saying it to herself, mostly. Turning back to Steve and the others. "Alright. see ya." Clea grabbed Steve's hand and led him away, mostly cause they shared all the classes.
Rahne gave them a little wave though she was just as distracted as they were. She gave the air a little sniff but there were too many bodies and she had no idea what she was actually looking for. "Ugh, it's just a wee bit of vandalism," she muttered to herself. "Stop seeing bad guys instead of just stupid people." Shrugging her backpack onto her shoulder, she tilted her head at Maya. "Off we get, I suppose."
