Demon Bear: Bear-damonium
May. 11th, 2018 07:24 pmThey have finally located the bear and surrounding it. The final battle as begun.
Cornered in the auditorium, there was no escape for the crazy magic spirit bear now. Not with — Miles took a second to count — fifteen mutants surrounding it. Maybe it could take on a couple at a time, but not all of them. Green electricity sparked from his fingers, and when the bear rose up on his tree-trunk legs and bellowed its challenge, Miles leaped forward, landing both hands on the beast. It swatted him aside, but he was ready, and twisted midair so he landed on the wall with his hands and feet. "Tres, dos, uno . . ." he counted down to the venom blast discharging, which lit up the room with its eerie green light before fading.
"Righto," Alex said, bouncing back and forth and holding his arms out, energy sparking down the limbs. He still wasn't great at this, but what better way to test run his control than against a giant bear? Red and white circles of energy spun down his arms and through the air, hitting the bear. It wasn't strong enough to throw the beast off its feet, but it let out a mighty roar as it stumbled back.
The bear wasn't sure who to focus it's attention as it was getting its bearings back, taking swipes at the nearest person. There was no opening to make a run for it.
Clea jumped back as the bear passed her before making the hand gesture to form a fireball out of her hand and threw it. Once more the smell of burn bear fur filled the air.
Punching this bear would probably be stupid. Darcy stuck a hand down her bag, groping frantically for... there it was! She yanked a small spray bottle out with a yell of triumph and followed up with a mental 'Oh crapsticks,' as the bear looked at her. She flicked the cap off, spraying a stream at magic bear's eyes and nose. "MACE TO THE FACE!"
Even thought Molly lived with all of these people, actually getting to see them use their powers was pretty freaking awesome.
And it kinda made her jealous. Lifting up her hand, she pretended like she was throwing some sort of energy thingy like everyone else to confuse the bear into thinking she had glowy flashy powers too, but then at the last minute and a broad grin crossed her lips as her fingers turned into a fist and she reared back. Her eyes glowed purple.
"Made you look," she said.
Then she punched the bear in the FACE!
The force of the punch made a gross sounding TWHACK, sending the bear reeling.
"Keep at it!" Nica called out to the rest of Gen X. "It won't be able to target anyone if we keep it confused!" And to punctuate her words, she raised both hands and blasted it with pure light. Light wouldn't hurt a normal creature, but this bear was anything but normal. It growled and covered its eyes with one paw, flailing blindly with the other.
Meggan ducked and rolled out of the way of one swatting. She didn’t need to regain her footing; instead, she flew upwards as one of the bear’s blind swipes came close to snagging her. Keep it confused? Well, her flight could be capable of distracting the bear.
Something else could distract it, too. Meggan gave a swift kick to its posterior while it couldn’t see her, before hurriedly flying out of range, and to the far side of it. She didn't want to get eviscerated. She might not have an offensive power like the rest, and she might not be able to actually hurt a supernatural bear, but she could provide that little annoyance for messing with everyone.
If there was one thing you could be sure to find in an auditorium it was a show, and this looked like it was going to be the greatest one around right now, and Stephen wasn't going to let anyone say he hadn't taken part in it as best he could. Glowing rune appeared around his hands as a grin touched his lips, as red lightning arched out from his fingertips to a pile of sheet music stacked in a corner, the paper flaoating up into the air as runes blossomed around them as the paper seemed to twist in on itself gathering into needles of paper that drove down at the bear in the centre of the circle. As each projectile struck it exploded, the red energy of teh arcane lightning dancing across fur and flesh as the bear roared in shock.
Xavin took a deep breath and moved in around the others, rocky fists laying punches into the bear's back.
Not wanting to risk another boom, Alex reached into the holders nearly hidden under his jacket, pulling out the battle staves Bobbi had lent to him. Trying them out against a giant bear wasn't the best first test run, but go big or go home. "Over here ugly!" He called, hopping onto a desk and slamming the bear over the head with one of the staves. He immediately jump and rammed the tip into its side before jumping back out of the way of a vicious, wild swipe.
By this point in the struggle, Pixie hoped her dust had time to take effect on the demon bear. She sent Will O' Wisp to wind and dart around the creature, a ball of faerie light to taunt and tease it.
Sharon made to move in on the bear when their eyes suddenly met. And there it was again, the strange flare, that strange feeling of connection between them. When the bear looked to the left, she followed and her eyes narrowed. Was that some kind of blade? A dagger maybe? The strange flare of being connected intensified. "Guys, the dagger over there. It has something to do with that bear." She called out.
Jean-Phillipe stepped forward. The bear was between him and the dagger Sharon was talking about, so it was better to occupy the thing and let the others address it. Besides, this was the chance to vent some of the frustration and sense of feeling lost that had dogged him since entering this place. He launched himself forward, electricity creating a halo around his arm as he cocked it back and then hammered it across the bear's face. And then, when it turned and reared back to roar and swipe, the Frenchman bounced up and planted both of his steel-toed work boots into the animal's chest and cut loose with all the rest of his reserves.
Maya had stood back from the fighting, content to simply watch people as she moved around the edges of the battle. If she'd been alone, she might have given into the burning anger currently residing somewhere near her heart, feeding her it's warmth as she looked for any advantage she might take. But she wasn't alone, and that meant working with the others and not getting in their way.
It was only when Sharon mentioned the dagger that she made a move, darting between the combatants in an attempt to reach the weapon and perhaps take some revenge on the creature who had given her such a fright in the past while.
Darcy's eyes tracked Maya's movement, and she tightened the grip on her bag before swinging it into the bear with a meaty thunk. "Keep it up, the distraction seems to be helping!" Another thwack followed her command, and she shuffled around its side to continue her smacks.
Rahne, who had wisely decided to stay in wolf form, ducked and nipped quickly at the heels of the bear, making sure to keep its attention split and away from Maya and the knife. She wasn't doing as much damage as she had wanted - the bear was magic and it was like trying to bite through metal. Some of the skin gave way but only after multiple attempts.
Growling, the bear kicked and Rahne went sliding backwards, yelping.
Miles skittered up the wall and onto the ceiling, hanging right up above the bear. It was getting crowded down there, so he waited until just the right moment to leap off and Chun Li kick the bear in the head. If a 150-pound super-strong man landing on the beast's head couldn't daze it for at least a couple seconds, then nothing could.
"Just keep it away from me for a little bit longer." Maya's words were whispered, a bare movement of her lips as she knew Rahne's ears would be sensitive enough to hear her without too much trouble. She just hoped that the bear was distracted enough that it wouldn't have picked up what she was doing. She followed up with some one handed sign, knowing at least some of the people here should be able to understand that she was going to go after the dagger. "Just don't die. Just don't die."
It was a chant of the desperate and the truly, truly unprepared for this shit no matter how many Gen-X training runs she'd done through the Danger room. She watched the bear closely, waiting for the chance to move and hopefully bring an end to all this stupidity once and for all.
"Hold it in place, sure." Stephen closed his eyes, chest swelling as he drew in a deep breath. The teenager's hands moved infront of his body, scretching out a rune in the air as he reached down to touch the paper at his feet. A familiar arcane lightning ran over the pile before it exploded up into the air, the sheets twisting around one another to pull out into a long daisy chain, weaving through the bear's feet as the lighitng ran over it's surface, straining against his forward motion as it fould his step.
Miles grabbed one of the ropes that raised the curtain on the stage and leaped onto the bear's back. "Anyone good at tying knots?" he asked, wrapping the rope around the bear's neck to further restrain it. "Whoa, little doggy."
Maya launched herself at the dagger, scooping it up in her hand and heading at a run for the doors.
If she’d taken a second to look back she might have seen the Bear stop fighting but she was too busy resisting the sudden wind that threw the doors in and blew past her in a sudden rush. She smelt cold and the slightly earthy scent of magic as it passed.
She headed behind her the sound of a bear roaring, and then complete silence.
The bear had disappeared.
"It is over, right?" Clea asked after the wind calmed down. "Someone check outside."
