Wade comes to check on Molly after the whole curse thing.

Things had finally started to quiet down in the Medlab. The screaming had been going off and on for days now. Molly herself had been part of the chorus.

She lay on her stomach, because any other position was painful, drifting somewhere between asleep and awake. Her back was exposed, but covered up by bandages that had to be changed constantly.

Around her neck was an inhibitor collar, and an IV in her arm that gave her the occasional blood transfusion and pain meds. Definitely not the Molly most people were used to.

"Hey, half-pint," Wade said, sidling into the room and giving Molly a smile. It was incredibly unnerving to see her laid up in that hospital bed, since it broke all the assurances he'd given himself about her invulnerability, but that wasn't something you actually told the person. "I brought you a frappe thing from a local coffee shop, straw included. You doin' okay on everything else?"

Molly lifted her head, squinting at Wade with a thoughtful smile. "You're... totally real, right?" she slurred, then added proudly.

"I got the good drugs, Wademan."

Despite himself, Wade chuckled. "Yeah you did, half-pint. And yeah, I'm real. This coffee thing's real, too. You want it now, or should I stick it in the fridge? We've got some DVR'd episodes of Impossible Engineering to get through."

Molly groaned. "I dunno, dude...My stomach feels all queasy. Thanks, but maybe later?" she said. She got quiet a moment.

"You might not wanna be here because...it'll start over soon and...then it's not fun for anybody. They said it was all over but...it still hurts. That means...it's not over, right?"

"What'll start all over again?" Wade asked. "You said you were on the good drugs. Did they give you a button to push when it starts hurting?" And honestly, it wouldn't be over until she was healed up. Given the extent of the damage done to her back, it'd take months for her to even be able to move around comfortably, let alone lift things and do all the stuff she was used to doing without a problem. Being invulnerable and super strong wouldn't actually do her much good now that the damage was done.

Between all the injuries the people he cared about most had received, Wade wasn't really coping very well. Trying to keep up a good front got more and more difficult every day.

"Yeah," she said, motioning awkwardly to a cord with a button by her hand. She licked her lips, biting them a little out of embarrassment.

"I mean....the cutting. It stops and then, it heals and then...it starts all over. All day. For hours. And it stopped but I don't know when...so that means...it'll start over soon. So I don't want you to...y'know...be here when it starts."

"Hey, no," Wade said, reaching over to touch her wrist gently. "It's not gonna start again. That part's over. It's just the healing you gotta do now. You know I won't let you get hurt like that again, right? I'm staying right here. You can rest. I'll just hang out and keep you company, if you want."

"But it's magic, Wademan," Molly said with a frown.

"I can't even fight it."

She used to think she could fight almost anything.

"You don't have to," Wade said. "Amanda and Wanda and a bunch of other people put up wards and things. So stuff that could get you outside the mansion can't find you now."

Molly fell silent for a few moments. "They did that before. Still got through. Them and other magic like Loki and...ughh," she said. She tried to move, but the friction of the sheet brushed against her wound underneath the bandages and she winced, covering her face with her hand.

"I totally feel like a noob."

Wade couldn't even offer to shoot anything that might get through the wards -- he still had his own score to setting with a Norse god, after all. "Don't. Stuff happens here that's just... out of left field. You survived, though, which is what really counts."

Molly smiled at that thought.

"Yeah, I did," she said, then tilted her head.

"I almost died too. They couldn't stop all the blood so....they had to give me blood but..." Her smile widened.

"I guess I kicked death's ass." She held up two fingers weakly.

"Twice." If you counted scary fire bird lady.

Wade kept his expression straight by the skin of his teeth, holding a flinch back like the strongman he usually was. "I know a thing or two about that," he said instead. "Got a couple theories about Death, myself. But I'm glad you fought it off." She was too young to face all the things she already had. When he was her age, he'd been in the military. He'd had no idea of the things ahead of him. He didn't think anybody should have to do all the things everyone he knew and cared about had. At least he was built to take the damage. "So that's good. That's really good."

Molly glanced him over. "Wademan..."

"You're grabbing the bedrail really hard." She tilted her head.

"You okay?"

"Yep," Wade said, releasing his white-knuckled hold before he damaged it. "I'm good." Leaning down, he opened the mini fridge and wedged the frappuccino into the freezer part. "You wanna rest? Or you want me to see if Cece can give you something for your stomach? Pain meds can mess with you that way."

"Nah...I think it's getting better," she said.

"Thank you for the frappuchino, though. It'll be good later."

She shifted again, trying to get comfortable.

"Can you help me sit up like not facing the bed? This is awkward."

"Laying on your back's gonna hurt," Wade raised his eyebrows. "You think you can sit up straight for a while? Or should I get a pillow or two to put under your front?"

"Yeah, I was gonna sit up straight for a bit, like...not facing the bed," Molly said.

"It's so quieter now. I think everybody's starting to get to go back to their own rooms."

"Sure thing," Wade said. "And I dunno, I haven't looked in on anybody else down here since the ladybird and Doug got released. But let's get you repositioned."

"Yay," Molly said with a smile.

"Okay...I'm gonna pull my IV stand over and roll onto my side, then you grab my hand?"

"Nope," Wade said, quickly moving to the other side of the bed so he could get his hands under her shoulders from behind, wrists catching at her armpits. The railing was down on that side, at least. "I'm gonna lift you up. You rearrange your legs so you're comfortable and I'll get you settled on your backside. Then we'll turn you around. No strain on your back that way. And I'll keep an eye on your IV." He nudged it closer to the bed with the toe of his boot, but since she wasn't pushing or pulling herself, she didn't need to worry about it being yanked out of her vein.

"Whoa!" she said. It happened faster, and less painfully than she anticipated. Shifting herself to where her legs were underneath her and flopped over the side of the bed, she let out a breath then smiled triumphantly.

"Thanks. Everything is much better when it's not sideways."

"Yeah," Wade nodded. "Yeah, it is. You good for a second by yourself while I pull up a chair?"

Molly nodded, giving Wade a salute.

"Yep," she said, itching under her inhibitor collar.

"Sweet," Wade said, crossing the room to grab a chair, hauling it over so he could sit next to Molly. Doing just that, he pulled a Pez dispenser out of his pocket and popped several of them out into the palm of his hand. He tossed them all into his mouth and swallowed them instead of chewing, then continued, "You let me know if you get dizzy or wanna lay back down. We'll do the pillow thing, if you do. Now -- Impossible Engineering?"

"I don't ever wanna lay down again," she muttered, noticing that the Pez's that came out of the dispenser looked bigger than normal, but passed it off as her being too loopy. She then nodded.

"Yeah, totally."
