Welcome to the X-Men. It's ... gonna hurt.

Xavin collapsed onto a chair in the ready room with a thump and rubbed a towel across their face, before tugging off their uniform jacket and gloves. "Wow. That was... that was so much more intense than our Gen X sessions were." They rolled a shoulder carefully, feeling the way it hurt to move and wriggled an icepack under a singlet strap, using that to hold it in place. It didn't help that they were still... adjusting after getting out of the medbay.

Tandy grabbed a water bottle off the table. "But so worth it. I think we did pretty well." Opening the bottle and finishing it off before wiping the sweat off her brow. "What do you think Scott?"

"Well if by well you mean, passing," Scott's dark eyes twinkled with humour as he settled down at the table indicating the chairs for the others. "It's not that you did badly, especially for your first time out," he assured them, "It's just like Xavin said, things here are different from Generation-X or the other teams. Winning isn't enough, it's all about how you win and what you do to get there. Chances are that when you deploy you're going to end up in a situation where people will be reviewing your actions intently, or we'll have civilians in the area that need to be protected."

Xavin nodded and shifted the ice pack slightly as it slipped. "We completed objective one - we didn't die in the scenario but that wasn't all we were supposed to do. What happened to the civilian we were looking for?"

"Any pointers on what could had gone better?" Tandy added to Xavin's question.

"Hmm, well you focused so much on staying alive and out of the way that you lost track of the bigger picture, both of you have powers that could have been used to distract the monster at key points. Tandy, you could have blinded the monster right at the beginning while Xavin helped the civilians escape, or Xavin, your powers let you dodge around them, avoiding the monster while keeping his attention. It's not what we've trained you to do, but that's the point of this mission. Everyone who comes in to join the X-men always falls down at this first hurdle while they're getting used to the mindset.

Xavin blinked at him, starting to feel a little dazed as the adrenaline faded. Blinked again. "Everything happened really quickly. There was us, and the threat and you on the comms and I didn't know what to do, because it was too fast."

"I can't really blind things with my light like that, but I see what you are saying." Tandy leaned against the table and crossed her arms as she thought about it.

There was nothing malicious about the smile or the finger Scott raised to point at Xavin, "Exactly, things happen fast and in the field they can be confusing, but that's why we train in scenarios like this. It's the only way to prepare yourself short of throwing you headfirst into the field, and," his smile took on a wry look, "I'm not that mean." At least not most of the time, "So let's break it down, how do you think you could have reacted faster?"

Xavin's first reaction was to snap "I don't know" but that wasn't helpful. A pause and then, "I spent too long trying to decide what was best. I had you on comms and I didn't listen when you pointed me at an action. I need to listen more, maybe."

Tandy said nothing. Her training here was very different then the ones she received growing up. "Do you have the footage from us training? Maybe if we watched ourselves then we could learn what we did and evolve."

The man's head nodded, "All Dangeroom sessions you take part in are recorded so you can call up your training to review it anytime you want from the mansion servers." Leaning back he smiled at Xavin, nodding in agreement, "You're right there, it's easy, way too easy to freeze up in the field as you try to figure out the best course of action. Experience is the best answer to that, but since we don't want to throw you int he deep end to sink or swim, training sessions like this. I know both of you aren't exactly new to the game, but what we do here, that's not the same as surviving or fighting a battle like your previous training. You're not storming out and you're genuinely thinking about how to improve so," there was nothing fake about the smile Scott turned on the trainees, "You're both gonna do just fine."

Xavin took a deep breath. "You sure?“ Maybe with practice. And, well, being back in condition again. And. And. And.
