Amanda temporarily escapes medlab for her version of 'fresh air' and runs into Callisto.
It was totally against doctor's orders and Cecilia would be suitably unimpressed, Amanda thought as she let herself outside and onto the back porch, but the call of nicotine addiction was too strong and she really needed outside. Luckily it all was quiet with the mansion residents off doing their various own things, and Amanda had the space to herself as she lit up and took that first, blissful drag.
Or so she thought, anyway.
"Hope you brought enough to share with the class."
The Morlock dropped silently down from above, landing lightly on her feet beside Amanda.
After she finished spluttering from the unexpected gasp that nearly had her choking on the cigarette, Amanda looked up at Callisto with slightly watering eyes. "Bloody hell, you scared the crap out of me," she said, somewhat redundantly, before reminding herself that no matter how similar this woman was to the one she'd vaguely known, they were basically strangers. "Yeah, sure, you can bum one if you want. I'm Amanda."
"I know." A pause. "I pay attention. Thanks," Callisto added as she took the proffered cigarette. She didn't volunteer her own name - apparently she either assumed Amanda already knew it, or she was just plain rude. Catching the cigarette between her lips, she leaned in to invite Amanda to light it.
Amanda flicked on her lighter and lit the other woman's cigarette. "Wow, someone who actually does. Pay attention, that is. You're Callisto, right? You got hauled in with this curse and all?"
A smirk, a nod. "Caught a nasty case of drowning in my own blood, apparently." She didn't just look different from the Callisto Amanda had known; she spoke differently too. Old Callisto had been monosyllabic. This one apparently fancied herself quite witty. It was as though all they shared was a name and a biker jacket. Callisto took a long drag of the cigarette. Her lungs seemed fine now. "You?"
"Ew." Amanda wrinkled her nose. "And I got myself ambushed by the cause of all this mess and came off the wrong end of a magical battle. Not my finest moment."
"Sounds rough. How you feeling now?"
Wait, was Callisto making small talk? Amanda covered her momentary surprise with another drag. Xorn works in mysterious ways, the bastard. "Getting there," she replied with a shrug. "They've let me out of the medlab at least, but I'm still getting back up to snuff. Who'd have thought losing half your blood would be bad for you, eh?"
Callisto gave a snort. "Ruins my day every time," she said with a wink, lifting the cigarette back to her lips. "I'm only still around for the catering."
"Can't argue with that - the food is good. And free." Amanda was beginning to enjoy this conversation - it reminded her of when she'd first arrived, fresh off the streets. Well, sort of - it depended on which history you used. "How did you wind up here and not at a hospital, any way?"
"I was with Bobbi when it happened. Besides, I don't do hospitals. Anyway, they asked me to come back for more tests, so here I am. Raiding the fridge and abusing the architecture." She lifted the cigarette as though it was a glass for toasting. "And making friends." She shot Amanda a cheeky grin.
Amanda laughed out loud at that and raised her own cigarette in return. "There is that," she replied easily. "Tho' next time, let's do this at the pub. Without the horrible pain and blood letting. My shout."
Callisto shot her a grin. "I nev
