Garrison, Everett the the Science!Bros get down to upgrading the Danger Room with new tech on a quiet Sunday afternoon. It doesn't go as expected.
"Scott wants us to call him if you guys break the Danger Room." Kane said as he put down the tray of coffees and slipped into the chair that Summers had been in all morning, monitoring the upgrades on the Danger Room. The X-Man's protectiveness about the DR was a running joke around the mansion. Unlike Scott, Kane wasn't worried. Sue, Reed and Hank had been working with Muir and developing the new processors for the Danger Room for month, and between the three, represented more degrees and knowledge than a DARPA task force. He had to admit that he understood very little behind the new tech, just that it would make the DR immensely more powerful and immersive in the environments it could create, allowing for more rigorous and realistic training. His job was to watch the program and scenario transfers; boring but necessary. Fortunately, he had Everett down to help. They'd been looking at integrating some SHIELD tech for training analytics for awhile, and it seemed the best time for it.
Ev claimed a cup of coffee and, after half a moment's consideration, backed away from the console he had been working on. He knew if he spilled even a drop, Scott would know. "If it didn't represent a risk to everyone's safety and Ms. Storm's propriety, I'd almost wish Stark were here to see this. Even he'd be impressed. And then provide a dozen pointless 'enhancements' because he can never leave things well enough alone."
Sue eagerly claimed a coffee, cupping it in both hands as she span around in her chair, "Tony's a sweetheart really...well compared to some other titans of the industrial world but the man just can't see something without trying to figure out how to improve it and always ends up making it 10 times more complex than it needs to be." Pausing for a moment the blonde took a sip of the coffee, sighing in pleasure at the bitter taste of the liquid, "He hunted me down after my first conference just to show how he could have improved the system at 3 times the cost."
Reed tuned everyone out. It was more important to ensure everything was installed without a hitch. Now, computer science has never been a strength per se, but it made enough sense to him. After all, this was still a science.
Tapping away at the keyboard, he stopped for a moment, almost hesitating. "This is an entirely new system. I'm going to start if no one has any objections." Without actually waiting, he pushed 'enter' and sat. Sat some more. Thought for a moment and stretched his feet out a little. "Well. Nothing seems to have exploded."
"Not exploded, no, but that may be because the system isn't actually functioning." Hank looked up from his screen with an expression of incredulity on his face. "These readings are completely unexpected. I'm not sure what I'm seeing."
"It looks like," Sue pursed her lips in thought, leaning over Hank's shoulder to tap a code into the computer, "It looks like the quantum energy readings are seeping out of the Danger Room and up through the rest of the mansion. We might wanna call out, see if anyone has noticed anything weird."
"Oh, that's all kinds of nightmare fuel." Kane said, spinning in his seat to bring up the security interface for the X-Men. It was a simple system, and one of the core functions was the tracking of the official Xavier's phones. Dozens of signals were gone. "Oooh fuck. Ev-"
The ex-SHIELD agent wheeled over to Kane's console, and bit down a curse when he read the monitor. "They're gone," he hissed, "The only signals still pinging are ours and people who aren't in the mansion. Where the fuck did they go?"
"Ev, help me run down exactly who isn't checking in. You three... what the hell happened?"
