The local library serves as a good place to hide. Minus the librarians.

Random skittering noises and chirps echoed from the darkness, dust swirling in the air, lit by the sunlight that was making its way in through the windows.

The Night Vale Public Library. The one place no one in Night Vale would dare go.

Topaz sighed, snapping her fingers, trying to bring a ball of light to life - anything to stave off the utter creepiness of this place. Not that 'Nica wasn't doing a great job of lighting things up herself. "Damn it," the young witch hissed when the the energy sparked between her fingers then disappeared with a small pop. They were huddled at the very front of the library, and despite everything, Topaz still wanted to wander in and look around."Okay. No magic. Sorry, Miles, I don't think I can do anything to help."

"Does it hurt?" Nica asked Miles, worriedly. Now the initial shock and surprise had worn off, she was concerned about her friend's transformation. She was sitting furtherest from the door, partly because she didn't want anyone spotting her light from outside, and partly because she was hoping she'd scare off any Librarians that might be around. From everything she'd heard and read, they seemed to be bugs of some kind. Hopefully more like cockroaches, who fled bright light, than moths.

Miles promised himself he would learn ASL when this was all done, as an alternative to verbal communication in case he was ever rendered speechless with just the ability to hiss and spit. He could at least shake his misshapen head to answer Nica's question, but could not elaborate on how not in pain he was. It almost felt normal.

Glancing around the library, Warren felt like he was a few steps behind, which he didn't like too much. It was easy to find them later, what with the walking light night. He'd managed to escape from the mob easily enough, but not without more produce staining his wings. He'd have to find a way to bathe at some point. With a look at Miles, he frowned. "I'd say blink once for no, twice for yes, but you have an alarming amount of eyes. Can you stamp your feet at least for it? We could only give you yes or no questions...unless there's paper and pen around here. I mean, it's a library right? Think you could try to write?"

Miles held up all of his arms and flexed his fingers. No way to tell without testing if the mutation had altered the nerves in his hands and affected his manual dexterity. He could, at least, maneuver his fingers enough to give thumbs up or thumbs down, and found all six hands mirrored each other. It made his responses seem particularly enthusiastic, but at least it was a start.

"I can translate general emotions for you, if you want," Topaz told Miles. "Not the best solution, but it's something. And speaking of weird problems...." she cast another look around the library. "How the hell did we end up in Night Vale?"

"I think you'll find the more pertinent question is, 'how the hell do we get back?'" Alison snarked from the back of the group. "Oh, and also, 'Where are the others?' We weren't the only ones in the mansion when everything went all.... sideways, right? We definitely couldn't have been."

“Deal with this first, then worry about the others.”

Jubilee had been mostly silent up until now, something her contemporaries might have found unusual but those she worked with, less so. She’d been listening, and trying to figure out just what was going on. She still didn’t have as much of a bead on things, not as much as Monica and Topaz seemed to for sure. “Now, where do we go from here?”

"We can't stay here - not with the Librarians and only some of us with powers," Nica replied, wondering how a trainee X-Man had managed to be one of the leader types. Oh, right, she liked creepy podcasts. "What we need is someone local who will listen to us and maybe help." She looked over at Topaz. "I can think of only two people. Cecil and Carlos. One's a scientist and one's been involved in more weird shit here than you can imagine, and kept his head through it all."

Topaz looked into the gloom of the library, but immediately sat up straighter when 'Nica mentioned Cecil and Carlos. "I heard a radio at the diner," she remembered. "Cecil's missing, Leonard was filling in for him. If we find him we might be able to clear our names and figure out how to get the hell out of here."

"Because that's going to be a walk in the dog park..." muttered Nica. Then her head jerked up and she flared brighter, casting light into the shadows. Light which reflected off chitinous armour and strings of drool dripping from mashing jaws. "Shit. Company. Time to book, people."
