The group’s various issues, along with an Angel tagalong, help them get through town and find Cecil’s boyfriend.

"Is that an angel?"

"Don't be stupid, angels aren't real. It must be the glow cloud's niece. All hail."

News must not have traveled as fast without Cecil at the mic. The group received strange looks, but no one tried to immediately attack them. 'Nica might have been helping with that.

Finally one figure, shining brilliantly and looking bored, walked up to them. "Do you have five dollars?"

"Dude, I am not seeing what I think I'm seeing, right?" Jubilee looked at the others, wondering if this place could get any weirder. She wasn't used to seeing creatures that were best described as 'otherworldly' that weren't trying to kill her at best, or possibly eat her at worst. She brushed away moisture, only to realize she was crying for apparently no reason at all. "Because, I'm beginning to think someone slipped me some acid or something when I wasn't looking."

Nica moved to the front of the group, her own glow matching that of the angel. "Actually, Erika, we could really use some help. We're looking for Cecil."

"Uh, sure, okay." The Angel seemed a little surprised that they were actually being acknowledged. And the glowing girl got the right name! "The radio guy? I don't know where he is, but I know where his boyfriend works."

"Blimey," Topaz mumbled, turning away. Sure, okay. Why not.

Miles was learning a lot in this adventure so far. For instance, at this moment, he learned spiders could cry. He couldn't help himself at the sight of this being. All eight of his eyes shined, the light of the angel reflecting against his tears, and he turned away to hide his reaction from everyone else. He was a goddamn mess.

Warren had never wanted to glow so much in his entire life. "Erika," he said, his eyes also glistening, "how do I become a full angel? I mean, I was almost a sacrifice for demons, so what I'm saying is I have some experience."

Alison had been lost in her own little world for the past several minutes. That sort of nauseous, sort of not feeling was back, and she couldn't quite get a handle on what it was. More worryingly, just like the others her powers were on the fritz. She'd tried to light the way while they ran, and all she'd gotten for her troubles was a headache and a numb hand. She hadn't told the others (largely because she could already predict the 'performance anxiety' jokes and was putting it off as long as she could), but it was only a matter of time before it came up.

That's largely what she'd been thinking when she noticed she'd started to reach out and smack Warren upside the back of his head. Why was everyone... squinting? She turned to look, and found herself staring at a pair of hips that had to have been twice as wide as her shoulders. She'd deny until the day she died that she'd yelped.

She looked up. And up... and up farther still, until she worried her neck was going to break. At only five-foot-two, the must have been ten-foot... giantesstowered over her, and dear lord she was used to feeling tiny but this was ridiculous!

"Oh... hello..." she said, wide-eyed stare. There was a short pause. "...you are unfairly pretty."

No, no, why did...!? God, she hadn't meant to say that out loud! She could already feel the heat of a blush creeping up her cheeks. "I mean... um..." Ugh, today was the worst. Her wit was failing her, she was embarrassing herself, and she couldn't look away from the giant angel that had somehow managed to sneak up on her. Well aware she was probably completely red at this point, she went with the only thing that might get her out of this.

"Guys," she smoothly said with not the rush of relief that would give away that she'd only just remembered they were there, "please tell me someone has a plan. Hopefully one that requires me to look away from the giant lady because I don't think I'll be able to otherwise."

Topaz was patting her pockets down, and made a mental note to always keep five dollars on her from this day on. "I think the plan right now is follow Erika to where Carlos works." She straightened slightly when she heard the distant sound of radio static. Where was it even coming from? "And keeping walking. Erika, if you wouldn't mind leading the way?"

"Yeah, sure, whatever," the angel droned, moving forward.

Jubilee was used to intense and weird situations, but as she followed along behind the angel, 'holy shit, an actual frickin' angel. Kurt would have been like, so chuffed over this whole thing', she couldn't help but feel tense, an almost constant hum of alertness in her muscles and senses. She was not going to be the person who missed something just because there was a giant, glowy woman leading them to what supposedly was Cecil’s' boyfriend. Not that she knew who the frack Cecil was.

"At least I'll blend in better now," quipped Nica as she fell into step behind the angel - one glow sharing another. "Miles, stay in close - the locals tend to not look too closely at the angels - it's illegal to say they exist."

Miles wanted to ask why and comment on how freaking dumb that was. He knew people denied even what was right in front of them to justify their prejudices, but not when it was literally right in front of them. But he was now a giant man-spider monster. Anything goes! So he nodded and kept close to Nica as instructed, trusting her above all the others to get them through this. Another thing to keep to himself; she would rub it in his face if he admitted that to her.

They turned down a couple streets, hidden by the glow of the angel, and Topaz felt safe for the first time since they had landed in this bizarre place. She eyed the angel for a moment, shrugged, and let her mind reach out a bit. Static. The angel had no emotions, it was just static. That... probably made sense, she thought. It wasn't real. Maybe this was why she kept hearing static - it had taken the place of the background hum of emotions.

"Is it far?" she asked the angel, who shrugged in return.

"A couple of streets over."

Which, in Night Vale, could mean anything from one mile away to a three-day walk.

It was easy to lose track of time here. In the presence of the heavenly radiance guiding them, time didn't even really matter. Miles couldn't be sure of how far they walked or how long it took to get there, only that he felt his stomach drop as they arrived at their destination, where the angel would surely leave them. If he was going to be stuck as a monster, then the least he deserved was to spend more time in this celestial aura.

Warren chattered the entire time away, asking the angel everything from what their favourite cereal was, and if there really was a stats book in heaven outlining everytime Warren had sneezed. Of course, he received no answer back, but that was okay -- just being in the angel's presence was enough and made him feel slightly more cherubic than normal.

Alison had been lingering at the back of the group for most of the walk, firmly not meeting anyone's eyes and definitely not looking at the angel again, less she find herself locked in another staring loop. Instead, she'd been staring at her hands as the others talked, trying to use the power of their voices and the sounds of the small town (for nothing that large and complex was every truly silent) to summon up even the smallest mote of light at her fingertips. All she was accomplishing was giving herself a headache. That... muscle, for lack of a better word, just wasn't there anymore.

Missing her powers felt like missing a limb, and she didn't like it at all.

Still, she tried, because what else could she really do? Without her powers she was... useless. And that hurt most of all.

Alongside the angel, Nica's own glow brightened as they reached a small building. "Carlos' lab!" she exclaimed with a small skip of excitement. "This place is like Disneyworld, only better!"

A door opened, a latino man with a head of dark, gorgeous hair peeking out, presumably because he heard the group coming. "Hello?"

"Hey," the angel drawled, bored. "Do you have five bucks? Also these guys are looking for Cecil."

"Oh, sure." Carlos opened the door completely, digging a five-dollar bill out of the pocket of his lab coat and handing it over. Erika gave him a wave of appreciation before wandering off, and Carlos looked the group over, apparently unphased by the shirtless winged man, the glowing girl, and the spider monster. "Cecil, huh? Is something wrong? He didn't get possessed again, did he?"

"Oh, no, nothing like that." Nica hastened to explain. "Well, we don't think so. But he is missing. And we were hoping you and he could help us get back to where we're supposed to be."

"Hmn." Carlos tilted his head, thinking. "He mentioned going to Janice's school to visit, because it's the first day and all. If he's not there, she might know something."

Night Vale Middle School. Great. Another place for them to go without being mobbed in the process. "Do you think you could help us get there?" Topaz asked, a bit bluntly. She was exhausted and Carlos was fictional. Hurt feelings were the least of their problems. "We're kind of... conspicuous."

"Sure." Carlos ducked back inside to get his traveling labcoat. "I know the town's people aren't always friendly to strangers. Sorry about that."

Miles felt a pang of loss and longing when the angel departed upon receiving her donation, and he nearly turned to follow her. It took Nica taking one of his hands to stop him, and he met her gaze only briefly before looking away.

"Not your fault," he tried to say, "Just help us find a way out." They were not words, though, just the same monstrous tittering as always.
