The great escape! Meeting up near the hangers, the Rebels fight their way out to a shuttle, and off the planet.
Newly re-armed and on the move, they focused on suppressing fire to kill the Stormtroopers from being able to follow too closely, while internal security doors, fire suppression systems, and remote systems all worked against the prison defenders. They reached the main access way to the space port when Griggs appeared from a side corridor with CB-R0, firing repeatedly down the way he came.
“Everyone make it?” he asked, just as Tara dropped down from the vents. “Guess so. You still got the holocron?"
She didn't bother to reach into her robes to pull it out - that would only be tempting fate at this point. Instead, she nodded. "Safe, sound and in one piece."
"No thanks to you and your secret plans," griped Aola. "What now?"
"We find a shuttle and I fly us off this damn rock, what else?" Greta had been shooting what looked like a rather large gun in her small hands but now looked around before moving across to a terminal. "Griggs, think your droid can scare us up a map of this place and where the nearest shuttle is?"
"Right down the hall. This leads to the landing pad and the shuttles. So..." Griggs paused and threw a thermal detonator down the hall. "Let's get moving. Rryobbi, you're providing the covering fire."
"Rrrngh," she replied in the affirmative, drawing her weapon up and at the ready. As flashes of movement appeared at the end of the hall, Rryobbi let it blast, peppering the entire area in blaster fire to suppress anyone foolish enough to charge after them.
Aola dashed past the Wookie and down the hall Griggs had pointed to, taking cover behind some crates at the entrance of the hanger. Alarms were blaring and Stormtroopers were everywhere. "Looks like they don't want us leaving," she said to the next person to join her. "We're going to need a distraction to get to the shuttle."
Turning towards one of the hallways filled with Stormtroopers, Tara reached out a hand and slowly curled her fingers towards her palm. Even from where they were standing, they could hear the sudden screech of metal as the walls of the hallway ripped away from where they'd been bolted in. With a grimace, she tightened her hand the rest of the way and the Stormtroopers disappeared from view, yelling as their way was blocked by a ton of twisted metal.
"That's some of them," she said, looking a little pale around the edges as she dropped her hand.
"Also works." Rubanu commented, putting away the blaster she had been using and hurrying towards the data entry point she saw nearby. "Got that map, CB-R0? Let's see if we can clear our path while throwing up some blocks in theirs." Tossing a glance at Griggs, she added: "Don't worry, this will just take a few minutes. Made so many holes in the system by now that I am surprised the data isn't leaking out of their ears."
"Fast as you can. CB-R0's hack disabled their off planet communications, but it won't take them long to re-establish contact."
"Then we better get our butts on that shuttle." Greta took out the two Stormtroopers who had rounded the corner and headed onwards down the hallway Griggs had pointed out. She turned the corner and then waited for the all clear from Rubanu as doors leading into the length of the hallways closed rapidly, sometimes directly on top of enemies trying to use them as cover. "Nice. Messy, but nice."
"Grrrrngh," echoed Rryobbi. They wouldn't want it any other way. She sprayed some more covering fire just to be sure as she and the others headed down the hallway.
Returning fire came in response to Rryobbi and the others attacks. This time when Tara lifted her hands, it was in defense - a shield snapped over the lot of them as they ran through blaster fire. None of the shots got through. Running and maintaining a shield on a group was difficult, so she dropped it when they were clear.
They made the airfield just as explosions rocked the prison. Funny what happens when you set energy fields to overload. The group rushed towards the waiting Imperial shuttle. Griggs caught Tara before she boarded. He produced a holocron from his pocket, the fake having been tossed back to the officer of the prison during his betrayal and passed it to her. "We're leaving, people! Get us in the air!"
They tore away from the prison with the high whine of ion engines. Without communication with the fleet, they would be in hyperspace long before they could identify the shuttle as piloted by prisoners.
"Good job. We kicked the Empire in the teeth today. Hopefully, in time, Skywalker's new lightsaber finds a home in the Emperor's chest."
