There is no such word as moderation in the vocabulary of a teenager and that is why the music Jono is listening to on his earphones could have been heard several seats away if someone else had been in the lab. He has purposefully chosen a place that is deserted most evenings, because there's only so much talking he wants to do during a day. He is playing solitaire, idly bobbing his head to the music and one foot tapping out the rhythm.

Sam wanders into the almost-empty lab, trying to figure out which networked printer his computer is hooked up to, as he printed out some articles and can't seem to find where they ended up. He mutters to himself, going over all the places he's tried already, when his stream of consciousness is broken by the tinny sound of exceedingly loud music pouring out of someone's headphones. He grins, knowing who the culprit must be from the heavy metal, angry rock strains of the song, and glances over at Jono. "HEY!" he shouts, grinning, "DEAF YET, JONO?"

Jono starts, whipping his head around to look at Sam. Then he tugs the earphones off the music blaring louder out. "Not yet," he says.

Grinning, Sam leans on the table a few chairs over from Jono. "Like Alison, huh? Louder the better..." He crosses his arms over his chest, looking at Jono's screen at an angle.

Jono turns back to the monitor, absently moving the mouse cursor around and clicking on the cards. "It sounds better when loud." He doesn't turn the volume down.

"So I've heard. But I wouldn't know, 'cause all sounds like noise to me anyway, whether it's loud or it ain't. But, well. I'm just an ol' redneck, so what do I know?" Winking, he reaches over to the printer and grabs his papers out of the tray. "Aha! Knew I'd find 'em somewhere..."

After a second of organizing the papers, Sam turns back to Jono. With a significant look, he asks lightly "How're things?"

Jono looks at the papers but doesn't wonder that he hadn't noticed the printer spitting them out. He angles his head as if to show off his 'chin'. "Things are.. passable."

Smirking, Sam nods. "Thought they might be. It's great, that Miss Frost is helpin' you out. I knew someone'd figure out what to do, with time."

"I hear you've also, uh. Met my li'l sis. Paige," he cocks an eyebrow at Jono, expecting a scathing reply.

"Several times," Jono replies levelly, resetting the solitaire game. "And Miss Frost has been very helpful. So has Doctor Essex, actually."

"Hmm. Haven't seen the Doc much, myself. Glad he's good at what he does...and either you're slower than I thought and missed the fact that I wanna know what's been going on with Paige, or you're being deliberately evasive." Sam narrows his eyes, but still smiles.

"Why do you think I would know what's going on with your sister," Jono glances at him from the corner of his eye without turning his head.

Straightening, Sam leans back against the table. "I meant with you and my sister."

Jono clicks off the music and silence floods the lab. He still doesn't turn to look at Sam. "Why do you think there's something going on with me and your sister."

Judging Jono's reluctance to look at him as an all-out admission, Sam sits in the nearest chair, swiveling it around to look at the side of Jono's head. "Because I know my sister. And there is. So, y'know, no use pretendin' it ain't happening."

"If you know your sister so well, it makes even less sense to ask me what is up with her," Jono leans back in his chair and finally looks at Sam. "I know that she likes to argue and hits hard. That's all."

"I never said what I did made sense. I'm just askin' 'cause I want to know." Smirking, he shakes his head. "And yeah, that was me who taught her to do that...hah." He bites his bottom lip for a moment, eyes twinkling. "I'm pretty sure there's more to it'n that, though. Maybe you're both crazy...I thought it was just Gee, but I guess you're out of it, too. Hmph. Deja vu all over again."

Jono raises an eyebrow. "I have no idea what you're on about, Guthrie."

"You do. Or if you don't, you will." He winks and stands up again. "I think it'll just take time. Like everythin' else."

"I think you're just insane. Like everyone else," Jono doesn't say it unkindly.

"I probably am. But I'm happy, so it don't really matter." Grinning, Sam gets up. "Well...I got my papers, so I better be on my way, then, huh? Seeya, Jono."

Jono nods and the music starts up again, fading out a little when he slips the earphones back on.

Shaking his head and smiling to himself, Sam strides out of the room. Just you wait, you two...just you wait...

(I would just like to state that this took place right after Sam and Alison counted to six together on the front lawn, and thus he is in a very good mood. This tinges his outlook on Paige hooking up with Jono, whereas in the future he may be a lot more overprotective and not nearly so understanding.)

I'll have you know I thought nothing up but that. That I was merely throwing pencil cases after you at the idea of you locking me in the my room.

Yes.

Whatever was on your mind?
