The X-Men find themselves caught between the creature and Chinese forces.

The three sided battle between the creature, the Chinese and the X-Men was heating up as a second squad of Chinese troops reached the area. Instead of weapons fire, a bolt of flame was projected at the creature while several took to the air flying around it and the airbourne X-Men as well. There was a burst of Mandarin followed by slightly shaky English.

"Stand down. This is a Chinese military operation. Your presence is not authorized."

Having just landed, Rogue lifted her hands in front of her and tried for a calm, neutral look on her face, which gathering by the reaction of the Chinese military, was not reassuring. "We're just here to help. Ain't got no problems with y'all." With a tilt of her head, she took a tentative step forward.

Wrong thing. She saw the guns come out and she leapt back into the air as fast as she could.

Fortunately, the Chinese seemed to be focused on the creature for now, which howled as fire engulfed its face for a moment. With a roar, the massive hands came down and the Chinese mutant disappeared with a wet crunch under them.

Jean flinched, immediately turning her head away as the rush of pain and terror followed by...nothing washed against her mental shields. She looked back at the soldiers.

"We can help you!" she said.

The soldiers, however, seemed unconvinced, as a few turned their attention toward them.

"I repeat, this is a Chinese military operation. Your presence is not authorized. Leave or we will--" The man was cut off as the creature ripped a tree out from its root and used it like a bat, whipping it toward the soldiers. However, it smacked against a telekinetic shield as Jean shoved the shield forward to knock the creature back.

"You were saying?"

"I took Arabic in school," Clarice muttered to herself, trying to remember what little Chinese her mother had taught her. Being able to say 'mommy, I need to potty' wasn't very useful. Ever. "We can work together," she replied, pitching her voice to the soldiers so they could hear her. Or, they could use them as bait. Unfortunate, but they had to get the data.

"We should grab what we came from and run. While that thing is distracting the military." Tandy said as she was watching the tree swinging creature go in for round two.

"Smart thing to do! Half of us keep the monster from flattening everyone involved and the others head toward the data," Logan said as he himself began making his way around the creature. He wasn't going to do much good in this fight anyway. He needed to be up close and personal unless Jean wanted to use him as a telekinetic baseball. "Rogue, you wanna try and keep them distracted from each other and us?"

Rogue, having just landed next to Logan, gave a sigh and nodded. "Will do. " Simple enough to fly around and try to take the attention on herself. The military seemed really confused as to who she was, and were firing their guns at will. Although being invulnerable didn't mean she felt no pain, the bullets bounced off easily enough and would only leave minimal bruising later. Moving in a way that their guns were going towards the creature, she effectively ensured she was the bait: the creature reached out and swatted, guns were firing haphazardly, and all she could think of was the amazing spa day she'd give herself after all this was said and done.

With the soldiers distracted by Rogue, Clarice took the opportunity to teleport herself through the chaos to grab the datafiles they needed, shoving her USB in the computer port as it automatically pulled the files off. Returning, she quickly scaled a tree beyond where the soldier's could see, teleporting each X-Man away in turn, before she removed herself. "I got it," she announced once they were safe.

Logan shook his head to clear the disorientation. Teleportation was never nice on his senses. He shook out his arms then took stock. Everyone was accounted for with little to any injuries. "That was anti-climatic, but now we can get the hell outta here."

And back on the Blackbird and back through horrible turbulence. Logan sighed. Just get this damn mission over with already.

Tandy looked out of the window once she was teleported in and then took a seat when, "That was...fun."

Jean rubbed her forehead. not loving the idea to leave those people to fight the monster on their own and potentially getting killed but not knowing any other option to get the information they needed short of trying to continue to fight the monster (and possibly losing).

"Not really."

"Aw, c'mon, Jean! We got the sunshine, a wild rollercoaster ride, enough mud to cover all our bug bites... I mean, hey, it could've been worse right?" Rogue tried hard to look serious before bursting out laughing. "Ah, you got me. Yeah, that sucked. I'm ready to go too." Looking around, she frowned. "Where's everyone else? I wonder what they got into ..."
