How they spent the holidays.

Lounging on an air mattress out on the water, Adrienne blinked confusedly at a sound from her watch, the sound snapping her out of her doze. She checked the face, squinting with no glasses on. "Huh. Email from the realtor. The Connecticut house sold," she called out to Garrison. "There's another, maybe, six months of me not having to work," she smirked.

"I keep telling you that you don't need to sell your stuff. You've still got your company, whenever you want Tandy to pass it back, and you're not being billed at the mansion." Kane emerged from the surf, circling the mat in large, lazy circles as he swam. "Heck, I can even carry you for awhile if you're feeling nervous." After all, Kane drew healthy paychecks from two governments and had so few expenses that he tended to bank most of it. After twelve years of doing so, his investments ran to a healthy seven figures.

"Certainly not nervous," Adrienne responded with a snort. "I guess I'm just making excuses not to go back to work. I don't know. I think I'm just bored with it all," she admitted with a sigh. "But I don't think Tandy really wants the company, either. She seems pretty into her own things now. Maybe I should talk to Emma. Maybe Emma wants it," she snickered.

"I can't imagine Emma owning a fashion company. At least, one that doesn't require at least three kinks involved in the purchase of any items." He swam up to the edge of the mattress. "So what do you want to do, once your rehab is done?"

“I don’t really know,” Adrienne responded with a shrug. “I think that’s part of my problem. I just kinda want to sit around and watch plants grow. But that’s not really a life worth writing novels about, you know? I spent so much of my life fighting to have this amazing story that biographers would fight to write and people would line up to read about. Then,” she sighed, “i moved to the mansion. And life was all about fighting, I don’t know, evil supervillains. But even that gets routine after a while. Even if i could do it anymore, which I can’t. So now everything just seems... pointless? Except flowers,” she added with a smirk. “Flowers are fascinating. I dunno. How do you keep doing what you do, day in and day out, for so long, without getting bored?”

"My job has always been about helping people. Sometimes that's being a cop, sometimes it's being an X-Man, and sometimes, it's pushing paper and running the Danger Room." Kane hooked an arm on to the mattress so he could float beside her. "It might sound a bit Pollyanna-ish, but it gives me purpose. That said, you know that you don't have to do anything specific. You've got money and time. You can take a year off, grow flowers in the greenhouse, watch baseball, read fashion magazines and sleep late. Try out new sexual positions with your boyfriend. Being idle isn't the worst thing if you need time to rediscover your passion for something."

“What if my passion turns into buying a farm and adopting a bunch of cats that have special needs?” she asked with a straight face. “Or like, goat yoga? Except whatever the new goat yoga is, cuz i bet goat yoga is super over by now.”

"Then that's what you do and we figure things out." He said. "Although I'm not having a goat in our suite. The cat is bad enough."

“It’s your dumb cat,” Adrienne chuckled. “Hey, i still have the baseball team. Maybe I should take a more active interest in, i dunno, managing or coaching or something,” she smirked.

"Rooney imprinted on you too, lady. He's at least partially yours. Or we're both his. I'm never sure how cats work." Kane laughed. "Maybe focus on off the field efforts? Unless your pitching staff needs you to teach them how to poorly throw a curve ball?" He teased.

“I think we’re not meant to understand cats,” Adrienne smirked, shrugging. “And hey!” she splashed him in protest. “Poorly thrown?! You’re just jealous i’m better at the video game than you are!”

"No, every summer when we have a pick-up game you demand to be the pitcher and uncork that breaking ball that has, like, zero movement on it."

“Okay. You convinced me,” she says in a firm tone, hiding a little bit of a smirk. “My new goal in life is to master all the baseball pitches. You are gonna be sooooo sorry you issued this challenge, mister. I got nothing but free time now. This is gonna be super easy. And when the mansion game happens you’ll be picking your jaw off the floor.”

"I doubt it but I'll make you a deal. You strike me out once in the mansion game and you can demand whatever you want from my jaw after." He leaned in close. "But if you don't... I'm talking about all the bases that night."

"Like you don't already get that whenever you want," she snorted, taking a lunge at him to try and push him off the mattress and dunk him.

Kane went under the water easily, pushed down by her. But her grabbed her arm and pulled her close to him. As they went under the water, he kissed her hard, molding her mouth to his.

The kiss cut off her giggle but she maintained it until she ran out of air, surfacing with a laugh, grabbing the mattress for support as she went in for another kiss.
