A ritual is set, a boon is granted, and a plan is put into motion.
The opening of Dweller's prison had gone as planned, part of his essence had leaked out and went to search for his avatar. That was hours ago. The dozen or so people on the roof, some were holding the spell to keep unwanted visitors from finding out that there was a disturbance surrounding the demon prison - others were simply keeping watch. Among them was a newly released D'spayre, who had seen better days. She was watching two particular people nearby. They seemed like they were in charge of the operation. "My father...he is close." She said suddenly.
Cindy was getting impatient. She'd dressed practically for the event in simple jeans and a comfortable blouse. She'd thrown a light jacket over it as the time had ticked by. She knew spells like these were complicated and difficult, but they'd been successful! It was the aftermath she hadn't counted on. The waiting around with no visible reward. They'd had demon contact and there was some amount of gratitude showed them but no return yet. There was more she planned to accomplish and learn before it was all said and done. This was only the beginning and really she should know better. Science was exactly the same way. The hurry up and wait process had only been mildly less excruciating when she'd been pursuing her PhD.
She turned toward the voice and said with feigned mild interest, "Does he approach? Does he require any additional support?"
D'spayre nodded at the one called Cindy's first question, "But he does not require addition support. One mortal despite, the fact she is what you call a mutant, would cause much trouble for him." It was her friends that had D'spayre worried. Meddlesome bunch. "Would you be a dear and tell the others to undo the shield to allow him to enter?" Her eyes turned towards Cullen.
Cullen narrowed his eyes. Even though he wanted D'spayre, wanted this to work so badly, he didn't take too well to being ordered around. He was the one that started the circle, he was the one that brought the demon here, and now he was being told what to do? Frowning, he reached for his phone and made a brief call.
"It's dropped. Will you answer my questions now?" A favour for a favour, that was only fair.
"One question." D'spayre held up one finger. Her eyes darted to Cindy before back to Cullen.
"How much longer do we have to wait for the avatar? This is ridiculous." He blew some air out and crossed his arms on his chest. It was colder than he expected. "I have things to do."
It was as if his question was answered when the elevator door opened to reveal a blonde female, dressed for the cold environment. The crescent mood was glowing brightly over her right eye as Tandy slowly walked over. The aura she was given off was demonic and it made those who she walked by shudder. She stopped in front of both Cindy and Cullen, "If you are too fully release me, then do so quickly. Earth has some annoying bodies and I wish for them to not know that this prison has been disturbed. And it seems my Avatar is a fighter inside and out - I must silence her. In exchange, I will listen to your boon."
Cindy gave the demon's avatar a once over. She couldn't say that she would've chosen this vessel as a host herself, but then there must be something she didn't know about this mutant. Clearly a mutant if the glowing was any indication. She'd already braced herself at the figure's approach and the demonic aura only caused her to shiver slightly. "As you wish. We've been eagerly awaiting your arrival." She waved a hand toward the people who weren't actively involved in maintaining the distraction spell to begin preparations for the next part of the ritual. "Cullen, are we missing anything?"
"A heater?" Cullen sighed and shoved his hands deeper into his pockets. "You're being vague, and I don't like this." He could see Cindy's disapproval, but he didn't really care. "Fine. So we have to silence her." Pulling a hand out, he held a gun and a bored expression. "Should I shoot in the head? Or will that defeat the purpose of the avatar?"
The blonde looked at Cullen with her cold blue eyes. "As someone who never done any research into demons I wouldn't think you would understand." Her head turned towards Cindy, "But she understands that a human body is incapable of holding onto a powerful demonic essence for very long, their life force will wither and die. This one, Tandy Bowen, her very mutation allows her to generate unlimited amount of life force. So if you, Cullen, put a bullet into her head - I will just enter you and see how long you last." Turning back towards him. "Since the ritual isn't complete, her thoughts and power is...uncomfortable." Rolling her neck as if trying to relax. "But she'll soon learn her place. Cindy, was it? Please proceed."
Working with Cullen was a necessary evil, but it wasn't something Cindy had looked forward to and every moment in his presence was only reinforcing that assessment. Seeing him being put in his place by the very demon they'd freed had her biting back a smirk. Yes, everything she'd done was for a reason. It may seem stupid and slow on the surface but it all had a purpose. She nodded acknowledgement to Dweller. "It should only take a few more moments for everything to be in place and then we can complete the ritual and you will no longer have to deal with minor annoyances." She paused. "And once complete, we'll then proceed to locating the God of Fear, as agreed."
Cullen rolled his eyes. "Whatever." He motioned to a few acolytes that where hovering, and snapped his fingers. "You heard the good doctor. Let's finish this up and get inside. I could use a pint after all this is done."
The ritual continued as the Society members drew the rest of the runes and one around a stone that was given to Dweller. It was to make it seem that he was still here and to keep others from being informed that a powerful demon was unleashed on their world. Tandy placed it around her neck as the ritual continued. It was an intricate process to complete. After the runes were in place, they Society members took their places and began to undo the spell that was holding him here while the others contained the shield that kept peeping eyes out.
The circle under her feet started to glow and then suddenly the black mass that was Dweller started to smoke up, covering his Avatar. The real Tandy was able to get a dagger out and it hit one of the spell casters, causing him to go straight to his knees but he kept mumbling through his gritted teeth. Within minutes that ritual was completed before the mass disappeared with in her. Stretching a bit the demon stepped out of the circle and looked back. "Finally."
Her attention turned towards Cindy and Cullen as she began to walk towards the elevator, "So, you mentioned you are looking for the God of Fear? How interesting. I will lend you D'spayre in your search. I am pretty sure by now most history or mention of the Asgardian has been wiped. I don't recall in her memory of Cul Borson ever being mentioned in Asgard. No even the libraries. Seems like Odin wanted him erased. Pity. I would begin looking at the oldest of text that your people could find." Looking down at her watch, "In order to keep people from interfering I will return back to Tandy's life. If she ends up missing you'll have more than you bargained for and your little hunt will be over before it began. Believe me."
Stopping at the elevator door and out of thin air a pen was produces as she grabbed Cullen's hand, "Here is the number to her cellphone. I will be in touch and relaying any information that I could find."
The oldest text? That would be Cindy's job, he decided. Looking down at the number, he nodded. "Fine. We'll be in touch. It shouldn't take long now that we know where to focus our search." Giving the Avatar a good look over, he had to smile. "You know, if you want to test out that body, I don't mind."
Tandy gave him a once look over, "I'm pretty sure you don't reach either of our standards." The demon turned before her eyes stopped on D'spayre, giving the demoness a nod, and stepped onto the elevator. The lights flickered before going out and then reappearing with no sight of Tandy inside.
D'spayre stepped forward, "Shall we begin?"
Dweller returns back to the apartment to not arise Suspicion, an soon after the ritual has been completed
Tandy returned to the back to the penthouse but didn't immediately go straight back to bed. Nick and Harley greeted her but they were hesitant for a few moments before Tandy reached out and scratched their ears. "Good doggie. Mommy is back." She whispered and headed to the bathroom. Shedding her clothing and stepped into a hot shower. It felt nice to feel hot water on skin again.
The sound of running water finally roused Julian- one eye opening in the darkness of the midnight room before shutting again, wanting to be asleep. Looking to the other-side of the bed, the occupant of the shower became clear, however the question of why she was using it this late at night rattled through his dream-addled mind. The question gnawed at him for a few minutes, before he finally floated one of his hands off the night stand and used it to throw back the covers. Bare feet plodded across the hardwood floors of his apartment as his hands fetched a robe off the armoire, pulling it around him before pushing the door to the bathroom the rest of the way open. The light hurt his eyes, "Bow?" he said, groggily.
Hearing the sounds of the boyfriend, Tandy poked her head out. "Hey. Sorry if I woke you." She turned off the water and stepped out of the shower. "Just after what happened I needed a hot shower to clear the head."
Julian leaned against the door frame, "Are you sure you're okay? I still think we should get one of the doctors at the mansion to look you over. If you hit your head when you fell, you-"
"I am fine." Tandy cut him off and grabbed a towel. "Really." She walked over to him and draped her arms around his neck. "I feel better already."
Wrapping his arms around her in turn, Julian smirked and gave a slight sigh as he squeezed her a bit tighter, "Okay, okay- I just worry. I wouldn't want to lose you again over something as stupid as a concussion." One of his hands stroked her back over the towel, while the other hovered down and gave her butt a light smack, "You good to come back to bed then?"
"I promise. I am right here." Tandy gave a little devious smirk, "Ready as I'll ever be."
