On the way out, there’s one last attempt to stop the bad guys.
Tandy was the first to exit out of elevator, with the box in hand. "This way." She said to her new companion as she made an immediate turn down the hallway towards the front door. The alarms in the mansion were still going off and the the magical wards that were supposed to keep demons out were getting more annoying the longer she was in there. She stopped walking as a figure blocked their way and she tilted her head. "Just like ants."
Logan stopped when he saw Tandy holding a box and Sue following at her heels. Something was off. Their posture wasn't right and Logan sniffed. Their scents were different. They didn't smell like mansion kids. They smelled like...a mix of ozone, sulfur, and oxygen. "What're you doin', girls? Thought you were with the others making' sure nothin' was too badly damaged."
"And someone was just calling for you on comms, Dagger..." Sooraya made sure to use Tandy's code name. "You didn't report in. What's going on?"
Before Tandy could answer, Monica appeared, poking her head through the wall. "Hey, guys, what's with the alarms? You wouldn't believe the mess downstairs..." Then she took in the scene and emerged fully, standing by Logan and Sooraya.
"What's in the box?"
Tandy turned her head to look over at Skirn, the Asgardian looked ready for battle. "Returning a lost item back to its rightful owner." She answered Monica's question. Looking back at the others, "I am afraid Dagger is no longer in possession of her own body." The demon paused and then shook her head, "Yup, she has been silent for a while. Now if you don't mind, move and I promise Skirn here won't hurt you too bad. Like our young friend here said, downstairs is a mess."
Logan bristled at the words. "If you're so powerful, why are you usin' these girls as your playthings? Get out of 'em and face us like a grown adult. If you were as powerful as you say ya are."
Tandy tilted her head to the side, "As powerful as I am, I only possess one body. Tandy is very much compatible and will do until either her body is destroyed or her light finally gives out."
"And what about you, Sue?" Sooraya turned to the other young woman in front of her. "Are you going along with this too? You know this is not yours." Carefully she thumbed her comms open, hopefully that everyone would hear it. "You know this is not you!"
"Oh Sweetie, this is exactly who I am, you know finally free, casting off the shackles that tie me down and all that nonsense. Really, are you sure you're not the one who's not being true to yourself, I've never felt so liberated doing what I want, but you... are you any of you really being true to yourselves? You could join us and experience real freedom, do exactly what you know you want to."
"Funny that someone so obviously possessed by whatever that hammer is doing to your brain should talk about freedom and being true to themselves," retorted Monica, fists raised and glowing brightly as she channelled her powers. "And since we aren't going to join you and we're not going to let you leave here, we're at an impasse, aren't we?"
"Impasse? No. We aren't, we are actually running late and cannot play for long..." A dark like cloud began to emerge from Tandy herself. "Let’s see what kind of fears you all hold."
Logan snorted. "Nah, I'm fine right where I am. You should be more concerned about not gettin' to leave like you're expectin'." As was par for the course, Logan was going to end up fighting people he considered part of the school. He didn't move when the dark cloud emerged but tensed in anticipation of the chaos that was about to descend upon them. Anything relating to the mind was out of his league and he didn't have the appropriate backup to fight it as his vision darkened and the school going up in flames, again, around him filled his mind.
Sooraya had just shifted into her sand form when she was suddenly back in the ruins of Muir Island. Screams of dying X-men and Brotherhood members filled the air. 'No...' She fought to keep control of the images in her head, the diffusion of her mind in her sand form protecting her at least a bit. '... this isn't real...'
Nica turned as she heard Sooraya's scream, saw Logan staggering back and she stepped forward to protect them. Only when she raised her hands to blast the shadows away with her light, nothing happened. The cloud swept forward and engulfed the three X-Men - Nica heard the other two screaming in agony and desperately she tried to summon her powers again. A faint glimmer rose from her fingers and by its light she saw the twisted corpses of her teammates. She'd failed to protect them and they'd died. The scene wavered and she saw another corpse, blackened and twisted and scattered in pieces. 'Rambeau' was readable on the tattered name badge visible on the severed torso.
"...mom?"
The newest X-Men crumpled to her knees, hugging herself as if to stop her body from shaking apart.
A smirk crossed Tandy's lips as she walked by each and every one of them. She didn't need to create the fear, it was already there. It just needed the push. "Skirn. Your King is waiting." Closing her eyes as her face contorted, "Fucking wards." As she continued down the hallway and out of the front door.
"Bah, I never get to have any fun," Skirn flicked her hammer in her hand, twirling it end over end before she flicked her wrist, lobbing the hammer in an overhand gesture that sent it whirling towards the wall, a cloud of dust flowing back towards them as she bowed, "your exit awaits."
On the other side of the damaged wall, Cul gave Skirn an unimpressed look. With a snap of his fingers, a portal formed and he looked at the group.
Without waiting, he stepped through. If they didn't all pass before it closed, so be it.
