As the dust settles and the X-Men are boarding the Blackbird to head home, the Avengers turn up.

Another X-Man passed Kane on the way to the Blackbird, counted off by the man. He waited until they were up the gangway before holding up a fist.

"Cyclops, we're clear. It's just us left." The fight had been brutal, chaotic and ultimately futile. The hammer-wielding opponents had disappeared, through magic, powers or some other kind of nonsense that they seemed to be empowered with. Now, it was time to regroup and figure out the next moves.

Scott pushed away from the wall he'd been leaning against, one hand clenched at his side as he nodded, this hadn't exactly gone the way he'd hoped that it would but at least they were all away and no-one was hurt too badly. That was a start, just not where he'd hoped the X-men would be after this encounter.

"We should probably get back to---" Jean suddenly turned, tilting her head as if she heard something. Her eyes were slightly unfocused in concentration.

"Incoming. Three Avengers are headed our way."

Iron Man led the way, arcing down from the sky, jets flaring as he came down a hover in front of the trio. Behind him, Black Widow and Hawkeye followed him up to the X-Men. The Avengers looked wary but not immediately hostile while Iron Man landed and his helmet reacted back from his face.

"A mass of Thor cosplayers with God-like powers and right in the middle of it all is Xavier's back-up dancers. Why am I not surprised?" He quipped. "Let me guess. You all have something to do with this?"

"Well," Scott's gaze lacked almost any warmth at all as he crossed his arms over his chest, "Oh look it's earth mightiest fashion models, late to the party again."

"From a guy who takes fashion advice from 70s Cylons, that hurt. Really. So, any of you want to tell us what your involvement is in this or, well, we can park a dozen SHIELD agents in your fancy mansion and see what we shake loose?"

Jean rubbed her forehead as the two men bickered, then spoke up before it escalated to any further dick measuring.

"We discovered a series of ancient hammers that can apparently possess certain people and give them mystical powers. We think the hammers are Asgardian. The possessed people call themselves the Worthy. We were tracking one down when everything went sideways," she said. She tilted her head.

"How about you?"

Kate shared a look with Yelena and Jean, somehow the distinctive oh my god these idiot men tone visible even with her purple aviators. "Same. We're pretty sure all but one is contained or has eyes on it," she said, to the point.

"These things are no joke. We know one of them is in the hands of an already literally invulnerable nutjob. Throw in a magical teleporter who seems to be coordinating things and it is a bad day all around," added Kane.

"Hold on," Scott held up a hand, his dark-eyed gaze falling on Kate's face as his eyes narrowed suspiciously, "what do you mean by all but one...you guys have one of the hammers don't you?"

"That is SHIELD business," Yelena said stonily. As much as she disliked the macho posturing, she also didn't like exposing confidential information to civilians, especially ones who acted as their own paramilitary group. "You don't have the clearance for that information."

"I like need to know as much as the next billionaire inventor genius, but I think in this case, we need to flash a little skin." Tony said, overriding Widow. "We've got one of those hammers in a research lab back at Triskalion. Unfortunately, researching magic god things aren't really suited to our tech."

Jean quirked a brow at the news of another hammer. With that many popping up it was like a veritable Home Depot of evil.

"We aren't getting as far as we'd like. I take it that's why you're here?" she said.

Glancing again at Tony, Yelena nodded curtly. "Yes. We obtained information about the fight and the prize offered. The power of a god sounded promising. We knew the Asgardian woman called Skadi was involved, but who was the other one?"

"Demons. Look, I know it sounds crazy but talk to Abigail Brand. We ran into... Dis-Pyre?" He struggled with the name. "Some kind of evil shadow demon before. He took over a former SHIELD agent, tried to establish a cult and bring about the end of the world. As you do. It's connected to all of this."

"The demon's name is desperate? I mean, I know a couple of models will really low standards that can make him less desperate."

"And you're a billionaire genius. Life is entirely unfair." Kane responded to Tony.

"So let me make sure I understand this right, you guys are here asking for our help in dealing with this?" There were a lot of things Scott thought he'd see in his life, but the Avengers actually coming to ask for help, that had honestly never crossed his mind.

"Wow, that's what you-" Kate started, before tapping at her earpiece. "Hawkeye." Her eyebrows drew in, puzzled, as she listened. "Repeat that, I'm having trouble... Or just hang up, cool. I'm going to guess Triskelion has been breached, judging by the noises and the only word I could make out which was, well, breached. So yes, we'd like your help."
