Bobbi and Nica - backdated to February 26
Feb. 26th, 2019 10:40 amNoticing that Nica's feeling the lack of light, Bobbi suggests a tanning salon and lunch afterwards.
There was the sound of a chime and the light of the tanning bed slowly went out. Nica sat up and slid her goggles (she hadn't really needed them, but explaining that to the attendants would have been too awkward) up onto her forehead. "I feel so much better," she said to her companion. "This was a fantastic idea."
"It does feel pretty darn nice," Bobbi replied. She'd popped out of her own tanning bed a few minutes' prior and was just finishing getting dressed again when Nica's ended. "I'm glad you're enjoying it, I'm glad we came here too."
"I never realised why I used to get so tired in winter after I manifested, but it makes total sense now. Not enough of the good stuff." Nica patted the tanning bed affectionately before she slid off and headed for the cubby where her clothes were stored. "Of course, I'll have to make sure I don't start randomly glowing again - that could be awkward in the middle of class."
"That would be a problem indeed," Bobbi said with a chuckle. Even though Nica's needs were obviously different than her own, getting some sun - artificial or no - was always a positive thing in her experience. She stretched, enjoying that lazy, warm feeling that usually came after a great nap. And, not unlike after such a nap, Bobbi's stomach rumbled ever so slightly. "What would you say to grabbing something to eat before heading back home?"
"I'm kind of full after all that light, but I'd love something to drink. Like a milkshake the size of my head?" suggested Nica. "I guess I'm running pretty warm right now."
"Hmm, can't promise you a head-sized one, but I do know where they make them pretty damn good and big enough," Bobbi replied.

Bobbi handed the waitress back their menus and folded her hands together, leaning over the table toward Nica while they waited for their order. "So, how're things going with you? Any new and exciting plans coming up?"
Nica shrugged one shoulder. "School, mostly. X-Men training." Her face brightened at that last. "I've been working on different wavelengths of light, to see what I can channel that might be good in a fight. That's pretty cool."
"That is pretty cool, pretty damned cool, in fact." The diversity of skills and abilities at the school had never ceased to amaze Bobbi. "Can you change them quickly, or would you have to prepare before you were actually in the middle of something?" She was curious, as not having any variable powers of her own to speak of made her wonder how others controlled their own abilities.
"The more I do it, the easier it gets to shift. I mean, the absorbing part is automatic - I do that whether I'm thinking about it or not. But to channel it back out again, I need to practice. Visualising, that sort of thing. And learning about what it is I'm actually doing helps do, even if science really isn't my jam." Nica screwed up her nose playfully. "You know, I don't really know what your range is. I mean, I know you're strong and stuff, but what are your powers exactly? Do you have the super-senses like Logan or Matt?"
"No, mine are a little different than that." Bobbi lingered on that thought for a second and all the times having amplified senses would've made some of her detective work easier before she continued. "For me it's enhanced endurance, reflexes, strength. That kinda thing. Which is nothing to sneeze it, I suppose, but nothing with the senses like those guys. Or with light, like a certain someone I know," she added with a wink.
"Still, there's got to be perks. No stubbing your toes on things in the middle of the night? Being able to eat whatever you want and it burning off?" said Nica, grinning. "I mean, turning into light is kind of cool and I like the flying, but I still wish sometimes I was like you or Rogue or Garrison, all super-strong and 'raagh!', you know?"
Bobbi laughed at that. "I guess all of us have something that everyone else would like to have." Nica's powers were out of this world to her, right up there with magic, which she was fascinated by and had been for some time. Flying was pretty awesome too, Bobbi reckoned. "My strength's got nothin' on them, but I know what you mean. The important thing is learning to do the best you can with what you have, and it sounds like you're well on your way to that."
Nica shrugged, blushing a little. "Well, I try. Probably too much, since I never seem to have time for a social life, but this is important, you know? I'll be social when the world's saved."
"Exactly. I like a woman who's got her priorities straight." All work and no play wasn't exactly a good thing, but Bobbi agreed with putting some things on a higher priority than others. "And you're being social right now, so that's gotta count for something." She spent time with her XFI colleagues when she could, though now she was wondering if that was enough.
"Hah!" Nica grinned. "Finally someone who gets it."
