During an afternoon get together, Alani and Sooraya agree to move in together.

Alani turned back to watch Sooraya, still stealing glances at the beets to make sure she wasn't about to terribly destroy what could be a beloved recipe handed down through the generations. "Thank you for having me and letting me help."

"I know it sounds silly but living alone almost feels like it's taking a toll on me." Picking up the fork, she carefully poked the top-most beet. It didn't glide through but did give. "Hmm, I think these are done? Do you want to make sure?"

"Hmm...let's have a look." Sooraya took the fork from her and pushed the top most beet to the side and poked the one just below it. "Yep, those are definitely done. Let's get them in the colander." As Alani went to do so, Sooraya pulled over the blender and some of the other ingredients they needed. "I always enjoy working with two in the kitchen, so feel free to join in whenever you want."

With the beets strained, Alani brought them to Sooraya, cocking her head to watch her work before smiling easily. "That is a dangerous offer. I am usually a nightmare in the kitchen, like," she scrunched up her nose to make her most appalled face, "I think I almost started my suite kitchen ablaze when I first tried making muffins here. It positively reeked of smoke and charred baked goods for a week." But she laughed at the memory. "And, I mean, come on, I bother you a lot already."

Sooraya shook her head at Alani's admission. "You can't be serious? Okay, now you are going to get cooking lessons. Because you at least need to be able to make a few things. So what do you know to make?" She asked as she plugged in the blender.

"Oh, ya know, the good stuff. Supplement shakes, Buddah bowls, fish, premade oven chicken nuggets." Alani flashed an embarrassed smile. "I will have you know I have perfected edible blueberry muffins since my kitchen fiasco. My dad always cooked if cooking was happening and I just never really got into it. What about you?"

"Where I grew up, a girl was expected to be a good cook. When I came here, I found out that I enjoyed it still and it became one of my hobbies." Sooraya explained. "It's still one of my favorite ways to relax and people like the end result, so it brings good company as well. By the way, do you want normal milk or one of the plant based ones?"

"I'm glad you enjoy it and it brings you good company." Alani's smile softened. At the mention of milk, she lightly tapped on the counter top. "So, fun fact, I'm one of those people who's lactose intolerant but still drinks milk. Which means I'm okay with cow milk or soy or cashew or any alternatives really. What's your preferences?"

"Let's go for cashew milk then. Don't want to cause any trouble for your stomach." She took the milk from Alani and poured in some of it. "Can you measure out about a cup of the cooked beetroots? Though there is another solution to the not being able to cook situation..."

"Aww, you're nicer to my body than I am, that's sweet of you." Making sure her measuring was accurate, she passed the cup to Sooraya. "Yeah, marry a chef or cook of some form and live off them. It shouldn't be too hard to find one who is okay with mutants, right?" It was a poor attempt at a joke, but she'd amused herself with the thought enough to share it. "Or, I guess, I could learn, take classes when I'm not doing other things."

"I never say no to a class to learn a new skill, but how about access to a fridge with leftovers?" Sooraya took the beetroot from Alani and added it to the milk, along with two dates and a few spices. "One with more variation then here in the kitchen." She clarified. "Now we just we need to blitz this. Can you find a pot so we can heat this up?"

"A fridge with leftovers? That sounds like wishful thinking for me. This looks big enough." Alani laughed, as she pulled out a pot. "I mean... would it be too forward for me to ask if you share a suite? Not that you have to live with me, of course. But maybe if you know someone who could deal with me?"

Sooraya suddenly paused when Alani made her suggestion, then looked over to her friend as she thought. "You know, that might not be such a crazy idea if I'm honest. I have lived alone since Angel left, but it's kinda lonely sometimes. I wouldn't mind a roommate again. You think you know someone who might fit?"

Alani shrugged slowly, mind running through the names she knew. "I can't actually say I know anyone's living situation aside from Angelo's, who obviously lives with his husband. But, selling point in my favor, I'm available, pretty clean, and all I'd bring are some plants that can stay in my room. If... yeah, if you'd be okay with that?"

Pushing the button of the blender, the machine made some quick noise as it reduced and mixed the various contents into a deep reed thick liquid in a few moments. "I'd love that." Sooraya replied as she poured the contents in the pot. "Though I am fine with putting some plants in the living room as well. I have one or two, but I don't really have a green thumb."

There was no hiding Alani's excitement. "Oh, that'd be lovely!" Though it sounded more like one word than a sentence from how quickly it left her mouth. Smiling widely, she resumed tapping her fingertips on the counter top. "I don't either, but succulents have suited me well, and they seem to be happy enough because they won't stop budding. I wouldn't cause any problems as a flatmate. I promise."

Sooraya raised her eyebrow at Alani. "You know, I might be the one causing trouble." She clicked on the stove and put the pot on to warm up the thick liquid. "Can you find the maple syrup? We can add it a little if you prefer it a little sweeter." She asked as she stirred.

Alani returned the look with a coy smirk before she searched. "Well, you've got me there. You are free to cause shenanigans, of course." Handing the syrup over, she craned her neck to look into the pot. "I trust your measurements on this. How sweet do you usually make it?"

"The beets of their own are pretty sweet of their own, but I always add a tablespoon or so." Sooraya quickly measured out the syrup. "I think the other room could use a deep clean before you move in though. I have kept it up, but I'll take care of that tomorrow."

"Tablespoon it is then. I'm excited to try this." Alani glanced towards the door of the room. "I'm happy to help with that. I don't want you to feel like you have to deep clean a room I'm moving into just for me. And if you need help moving things around or out of it, too. I only have pretty light homework and no other plans."

"Don't you have some packing and cleaning of your own to do? Besides, all I have been doing lately is sit in my office in and effort to get the first version of the training manual done, so I'd be good to something else for a little bit. Even if it's cleaning." Sooraya stirred the mixture, which was started to let of lots of steam. "This is nearly done. How about you find two mugs and there should be some cookies in the container in the counter over there as well."

Alani quirked a brow, as if it just occurred to her that Sooraya was correct, before fetching a set of mugs and the container she'd indicated. "You might have a point. I do have to pack and clean the room I have been using. Which will give me a good opportunity to decide how much I really need every single thing. Is the training manual going well? Not too stressful on top of everything, I hope."

"You know what they say.... the last miles are always the longest." Sooraya turned of the stove and brought over the pan, dividing it in both mugs. "I will be glad when the first version is done though. I have been working on it off and on for a few years. But back to the rooms... will you need a hand moving stuff? I think we should be able to get someone to help if need be."

"And that does tend to be true." Alani mused, opening the tin to look longingly at the cookies. "Help moving stuff? Oh, no! I am still quite athletic and can move all my belongings myself. To be fair... I assumed I would just use the bed there... and clean the one I'm leaving behind? Should I get a skateboard and swap them? Whaddaya think?"

"A skateboard?" Sooraya raised an eyebrow as she handed one of the mugs to Alani. "I'm not following you there. And dig in." With her free hand she gestured at the tin.

Alani thanked Sooraya, grabbing a cookie and taking a drink before starting. "Oh that's good. There is thought behind my madness, I swear. Because dragging a bed would just be hell on it... so, I mean, if I get a skateboard or two I could tie them to the mattress and dolly it over. Right? It does sound a bit silly. Beds are just something I never really thought about till I came here."

Sooraya paused as she was bringing the mug to her mouth. "I don't think we need skateboards for that. If we snag Angelo and JP, we'll have that thing moved in half as much time."

"You're right, as usual. You might have noticed, but I may be a little bad at asking for help." Alani sighed, but the cookie and drink were a soothing reminder that she wasn't in it alone. "Yeah, let's ask them. I'm sure they can be bribed, if anything."
