Franklin sat in the middle of the big circle that Amanda - not his Auntie 'Manda, but Miss Amanda, he was trying to remember - had drawn on the ground. He took a deep breath, this was the most important thing, this was his job, even if he was not going to get any good job stickers when he got home.
"Okay we go in the time portals appear, and then you make circles, and..." Franklin waved his hands and made a whooshing sound. "And it's not like minecraft or old lego games, it's for real." The six year old's explanation of the ritual was lacking, but his memory of the sorcery that the other Amanda had done was crisp.
With his words came a mental push of words that he had been carefully instructed to memorize, that he had to repeat over and over until he got them just right.
It was sing-song, a nursery rhyme of a spell designed in part so that a time-traveling over-powered telekinetic six year old could remember it to get them all back home. "And then we hug, but not arms, we hug powers. Your pretty gold and my pink kaboom hug and no kisses. Just hugs. And then we all hold hands, me and Ellie and Nate and Ruby and Garnet have to both hold hands, and Shogo and Talia and Shakti. Everyone has to be touching, and then." He shrugged. "We're there."
Amanda's brow wrinkled in thought. "So it's a combination of our magics and your... whatever it is to give you the push to get back to where you came from? she asked, looking over at Clea and Topaz. "And that will give us enough power? I'm not really up for destroying New York to power this thing."
Topaz shrugged. She didn't speak six year old.
"She had to get a bit extreme because it was only her," Talia spoke up, "There might be some weird magic..." She waved her hand uncertainly. "Fuckery in the aftermath, but no destroyed cities.”
Clea nodded, "It should be possible. I hope." She whispered the last part under breath. Having a kid tell them how to do something was a little new to Clea. Was this how she was like when she was little? "If need be, take as much of my magic energy as you can. Best case scenario, I'll want a cheeseburger. Worst case, I'll be sleeping for three days straight."
Nate stamped his foot once, twice, and then coughed into his fist. Once all eyes were on him, he held up his hands. *Amanda* he carefully spelled out, his sign for her wouldn't make sense to them so it was over to finger-spelling out names. *Our Amanda, showed me the rest of the spell. Your sound words, and this* He rolled his shoulders and then pushed up his sleeves, and held up his hands, snapping his fingers once each. Then his fingers danced, weaving a complex song of gestures and movements, accompanied by only the sounds of his breathing.
Then he blinked, and shook his hands out. *I can slow it down for you. She said it was fine to do slow."
Ruby and Garnet blinked, imagining other purposes those nimble fingers of Nate's could be put to. But that might make Ellie mad. Always better to scratch your itches outside your circle of friends, that was something she had certainly learned from Emma. She was definitely feeling itchy, though. As soon as they were done... "Well, it has certainly been something," she said wryly. "Certainly turned out much better than the pessimists among us were worried about."
"Are you kidding?" Shogo asked, bouncing as he sat. "It went awesome! Nobody died, I saved Youtube, and I didn't even need to turn into a dragon like last time!"
Shakti pinched the bridge of her nose to try to stave off a headache. "Ellie, please round up Franklin so we can go home."
Ellie stepped over and offered Franklin her hand. "Ready, Frankie?" She asked, offering the six year old a sad sort of smile. At least his parents were still alive. She and Nate were probably gonna get reamed, but well. Needs must and all that. And now there was zero chance their Topaz would go around destroying other timelines... other families.
Franklin nodded absently, and then looked up at Ellie. His feet left the ground, and he wrapped his little arms around her neck. "No sads, Aunt Ellie. I'll fix it." He patted her check with a cool and slightly sticky little hand, floated back down and then grabbed Nate's hand. "Time to go!" he said, mental voice accompanying his verbal one.
Topaz watched the rest of the group take hands, then looked back at Amanda and Clea. She was already not looking forward to how they were going to feel after this. "Ready when you guys are."
Amanda nodded back, still feeling the rush of energy she'd taken from that other Topaz. It would help, but this was going to take a lot of effort. She glanced at Clea, standing at the third point of the triangle they had formed around the group. "Don't overdrain yourself," she told the younger witch, before looking to the travellers. "Best of luck."
Clea gave the thumbs up at her teacher and then waved at the rest of them, "Safe travels."
