Sooraya and Angel catch up a little after the weirdness is over.
Somehow, alternate universes still weren't the weirdest thing Angel had ever heard of. Hell, she had a husband in another universe somewhere. Finding out there was a world where she and Clint had a kid? It actually hadn't been that mind boggling.
"It's nice when things stay consistent, you know," she said from where she had dropped onto Sooraya's couch. "The sky is blue, the grass is green, and something crazy is always happening around here."
"Well, you've to admit that even for us this was pretty strange." Sooraya shook her head as she put down a tray with drinks and nibbles on the table before getting comfortable on the couch and pulling a blanket over her legs. "Have to admit... your son was pretty cute..."
"Good genes." Angel grinned. "But yeah, this one was a little weird even for the mansion." And they had seen the end of the world, so that was saying something. "I wonder if the universe jumping has anything to do with, ya know..." The aforementioned world ending thing.
"Honestly, I doubt it. I heard what it took to get here... and that was pretty insane. Plus, we'd have people or something showing up before if that was the case. At least, I think so." Sooraya shrugged a little as she handed Angel a cup of her favorite tea. "I'm not an expert on any of this though, so take it with six dozen grains of salt."
"Nothing surprises me anymore, honestly." Angel looked out the window. "Honestly, I miss it here sometimes."
"You know you're being missed here as well, right?" Sooraya shifted a little closer and bumped shoulders. "How are things there now? Have they eased a little for your mom? We kinda went sideways last time we talked on the phone..."
"Yeah, things have gotten a bit better. She did decide to move, though, and nothing's followed her as far as we can tell." Angel shrugged, chewing on her thumbnail - a rare sign of anxiety. "I don't know. I'm still worried about her. Dad's pretty safe here since he's just behind the camera all the time, but she's putting her face on things and risking a lot."
"And if they figure out where she lives now, it's probably all going to start over again. Plus, you can't exactly tell her to stop being out there so much. Especially now... " Sooraya knew Angel's mother well enough to know that.
Angel rolled her eyes, smiling fondly. "I suggested she take a vacation a couple months ago and she looked at me like I had five heads. She loves her job too much."
"I can kinda understand why she doesn't want to pause now... maybe once it's 2021 and certain things have gone our way, you might be able to get her to take a vacation?" She offered after a moment of thought. "You know... you should take her for a nice weekend in NYC. Shopping, a show, maybe some other things?"
"I'm pretty sure we could achieve world peace tomorrow and she still wouldn't take a day off." Angel snorted. "She makes being a superhero look easy."
"Hmmm..." Sooraya reached over and dipped a carrot stick in the tzatziki as she considered. "How about if you mix business with pleasure? There are a few things she might want to see in District X, partially set up by the Underground? Things that could maybe be taken further, but they need some kind of discrete backing."
"Hm...." Angel tilted her head. "I might be able to work with that. No really Mom we're just going to do lawyer things oops I accidentally bought these tickets to see Hamilton.... or whatever is on Broadway next year."
"From what I remember it's been a while since she has been back to the East Coast. It would be strange if you did not take her around to some of your favorite old haunts?" Sooraya winked. "A few nice restaurants, maybe that museum that you like so much?"
"If we're really lucky, maybe another alternate universe grandson." Angel said dryly. "The real New York experience."
"Or another husband?" Sooraya burst out in laughter. "Or a surprise engagement with Clint? NY is a great place to celebrate.... though we'd need to find Clint first."
She rolled her eyes, giggling. "He's probably in a lab at the bottom of the ocean. Or in a space station. Do space station labs exist? Do you think SHIELD has a secret lab on Mars or something?"
"With that organisation, nothing would surprise me anymore. Who knows, we might end up with an alien on the Avengers next time we have to deal with them... or they invented some kind of technology that has them doing 'beam them up, Scotty' and Clint is happily running around on Mars." Sooraya had to grin. "Or he is jumping around on the moon? They might have a lab there?"
"It's SHIELD, so probably?" Angel grabbed a carrot stick, popping it in her mouth. "They did also hide a team of superheroes for a long time. I put nothing passed them in terms of weird things they might have that no one knows about." She shook her head, smiling. "Man, back here for a few days and I'm already speculating about secret moon bases...."
"I don't think that will ever change... with the stuff we have seen... we have looked behind the looking glass and we can never unsee..." Sooraya intoned, pulling up her most official face, before bursting out into giggles.
