X-Men Mission: Agents of SHIELD - Part 6
Mar. 10th, 2021 06:49 pmAfter splitting up, Marvel Girl, Daredevil and Spectrum work with Simmons to revive Captain America.
AIM's robots looked like rejects from a Terminator convention; dull matte grey humanoids, lit with blue lights in their featureless faces and at joint sections in their arms and legs. They didn't appear to have weapons, but their heavy fists looked dangerous enough as they closed.
In contrast, the AIM troops were resplendent in their yellow fatigues and armor, with all sorts of high tech gadgets strapped into cargo harnesses and weapons straight out of Star Wars. You could have mistaken it for a sci-fi convention, save the weapons were real and their intent was to cause them pain.
"Secure the asset at all costs!"
'At all costs' definitely meant 'get through Matt'. Good thing he liked these sorts of odds. Using his billy club to take out as many overhead lights as he could, Using a robot to leap frog onto his shoulders, Matt joined the fray, grabbing a soldier and using him as a shield until he stopped being useful, then used the man's gun to take out as many robots as he could. "Assistance!" he called Nica, they needed to give Jean more time.
"Gotcha!" Nica replied. Her body shimmered slightly as she switched to infra-red and her hands began to take on a reddish glow. Launching herself at the nearest robot, she unleashed twin energy blasts from her hands, blowing two fist-sized holes in its torso. "This would be quicker if I could just do an EMP," she complained as she turned to the next robot. "Stupid powers limits."
"You'll figure it out, Spectrum," Jean said. Throwing up a telekinetic shield around herself and Captain America just in case, Jean tapped into her comm system.
"SHIELD, come in. This is Marvel Girl. I need Agent Simmons immediately. We have a problem with the Captain," she said. Of course things couldn't go perfectly well.
"So it seems. Patching through," Simmons' crisp voice replied, simultaneously frustrated at the time delay working remotely and intensely relieved as the noise of what was happening on location seeped through the comm link.
Power limits kept things interesting, in Matt's opinion. And reminded him that he was human. Maybe if their powers were reversed, they'd swap opinions too. That was irrelevant now though as he pulled the head off a robot and threw it like a football at his comrades, "You're stopping them though," he called Nica. He really wished he had more offensive powers sometimes.
"Thanks. You deal with the guards and I'll take the robots?" she replied, blasting her way through another robot. "I really don't want to burn anyone if I can help it and I don't have anything non-lethal I can use on them."
"That works," he agreed, getting to it. The human guards were more of a match only because of their numbers, but they were uncoordinated working together and didn't seem too trained. Not compared to Matt anyways. Between him and Nica, they began making short work of everything, hopefully Jean was having more success with Simmons.
"I completely understand that figuring out the issue takes time, Agent Simmons but unfortunately we are quickly running out of it," Jean said patiently, making a face as the robot head that Matt threw at the robots was caught and thrown her way, bouncing off her telekinetic shield with a shower of sparks. "Is there anything I can do on this end to help speed things along?"
There was a frustrated noise followed by a long pause that suggested there would be no further response before Simmons absently, trying to divide her attention between scanning the massive amount of information she was trying to hurriedly go through and a reply, did so. "Everything has been properly disconnected according to the original specs, but his vitals are not improving. Manually going through each monitoring section now."
Nica dodged an energy beam fired by one of the robots, having learned the hard way that she couldn't absorb everything, and fired another infra-red beam back at it. They were making headway, or so she thought. Then her senses jangled with incoming energy signatures and she groaned. "Um, any chance we can hurry this up? We've got reinforcements coming!" she called over her comms. "We could use a star spangled man with a plan right about now!"
"Or heavy artillery to get out of here," Matt agreed, his senses picking up the same as Nica's even as he continued to do what he could to make sure people didn't get back up. "Let's get this show on the road!"
"Agent Simmons? How are we doing? It's getting a little hot in here," Jean said, gritting her teeth. She was just about to drag him along with her when---
"Oh, you clever buggers- there!" Simmons answered loudly. "Snuck in an extra chemical shunt as a failsafe, it should be deactivated now."
There was a gasp from the technological coffin. With a start, the blond man jerked up, switching from sleep to wide awake in seconds. "What is-"
Jean let out a breath of relief. "Welcome back, Captain Rogers. Not a lot of time to debrief I'm Marvel Girl with the X-Men. We're here with SHIELD to rescue you," she said, extending her shield out to smash a robot against the wall before bringing it back in.
"Can you walk?"
"Is this still AIM? If so, you bet I can." He pulled himself out, wobbling for a moment, but quickly regaining his balance and strength. "I'm hoping there's a plan to get out?"
"The usual way," Matt replied with a grin towards the infamous soldier, "Through."
