With his shields down and his mind damaged, MODOK is vulnerable to the combined attack of the X-Men and the agents of SHIELD.

MODOK's scream split the sky. The massive form shook back and forth as all around them, the robots controlled by his technokinesis collapsed. His shield was down and several blows actually impacted off his armor.

"You insects! You vermin! There is no place in this world for mutants! Super-soldiers! HEROES!" He all but spat the last word as rocket batteries opened on his back and a rain of explosive projectiles spat themselves at them.

Nica flew in an arc across their flight path in a flash of infrared light. She wouldn't be able to get them all, but she hoped she'd thin them out before they reached her teammates. In her wake came a series of explosions as the missiles met heated air; as she looked behind her, Nica saw she'd managed to get roughly sixty percent. The remaining missiles streaked towards the remaining heroes.

"Go bury yourself back on Easter Island," Jean shouted, bringing up a shield like an umbrella to protect herself and those who couldn't quite fly or phase. The air around them shimmered with the warmth.

Grabbing some of the depowered robots telekinetically, she tossed them at one or two of the stray missiles to knock them off course, but there were still a couple out of her reach.

Robots really weren’t her forte, so Betsy focused her attack on MODOK himself. It may have been a low blow, but dissecting his mind with Jean earlier had given her so much ammo that it would have been a pity to let it all go unused. Besides, while she had no personal opinion of Captain America, kidnapping in general was just uncouth, so she took all those little insecurities and paranoid moments in between the megalomania and amplified them, setting them to go off in his mind like tiny time bombs.

The barrage of missiles didn't bother Kitty at all - instead, she phased through the one that she could reach. The metal crackled and fizzed around her phased form as she disrupted its system. Sweat beaded on her brow as she concentrated on staying phased - she didn't want to end up half-missile, half-girl. She swung herself around, looking for anything else electrical that she could disrupt - for once her power felt more than just a defensive gambit.

Dodging the missles, Matt ricocheted his billy club to tangle some of MODOK's mechanical legs, tripping up that side just enough. It wasn't a lot, his powers weren't really scaled for something like this, but he did what he could. And if he helped his teammates, that was all that mattered in something like this. Plus, it didn't seem like Captain America had lost his touch by being frozen again.

MODOK stumbled and pushed himself into the air with his thruster. Before he could gain any height, Captain America's shield smashed off his armor and as he wobbled, the Captain landed on his rear armor, He grabbed on to the armor plating where the cannon arms met the armor and pulled, ripping the top plate off. MODOK screamed and shook him off, but the exposed joint was now open and Garrison targeted it with one of the robots he'd smashed apart. The torso hit the joint flush and one of the cannon arms fell to the ground.

Jean also took care of the other cannon, using her telekinesis to simply rip it off in a shower of sparks.

"If you are going to act like a four year old having a tantrum, George, we'll have to take away your toys.~

At last, an opening... Nica shot through the air and aimed her energy blasts at the exposed area, searing wiring and tissue alike. The smell made her wrinkle her nose in disgust as she looped around to make another strafing run, this time at the robots. She managed to blast holes in several and grinned as they tumbled to the ground.

His cannons were gone, his shields down and his robots untethered. Common sense pierced MODOK's fury. The battle was becoming untenable. But this was still his base and there was one trick left. He concentrated, pushing aside the mental fuzz from the psionic attacks and focused. All around the parameter of the platform, turrets rose up and they found themselves blanketed in a barrage of weapons fire.

Kitty heard the whirl-click of the turrets rising and shouted, "Get under cover!"

Phasing was second nature to her but she winced as the turrets fired, feeling the heat even through her incorporeal form. She moved toward the closest one, hoping that she could disable it by passing her hand through whatever circuitry it contained. With a quick slash of her fingers, she felt it buzz, then stop, but she didn't allow herself to lose focus. There were still others firing, the bullets fast and furious all around them.

Getting shot at was actually something Matt could do something about, especially since his uniform doubled as body armor. Dodging them as best he could and ignoring the pain of the others hitting his body armor, he launched his billy club like a pitcher at the World Series would release the perfect pitch. The club arced through the air, wrapping the metal cord inside it around the turret gumming its movements. A few seconds later it gave up, breaking in its attempt to continue its predetermined path.

Jean put up a shield to block herself from the fire, scanning the area to see how many turrets there were. ~Captain Rogers, if you throw your shield at the turret closest to you, I can try to guide it with my telekinesis to help give it more power to try to take some of the turrets out. Sound good?~

"If you say so." The Avenger spun, releasing the shield with a tremendous heave. It rotated faster than an old record, the star in the centre a blur as it arced towards the turret.

Narrowing her eyes, Jean gave the shield a telekinetic push, guiding it toward the vulnerable parts of the turrets and keeping it on it's path. The edge of the shield sliced through some of the turrets, and as it lost momentum, swinging back around, it dented some of the others, knocking them off course. While it didn't take out the whole array, it helped quite a bit to protect the remainder of the team from being riddled with holes.

Gasping and rolling towards Jean, one hand out to catch the billy club, Matt took refuge under her telekinetic shield, "I'm not really built for this," he grunted, more annoyed that he was out-powered than anything else. Maybe he should speak to Garrison or someone else about more long-range options?

"I've got it!" Nica did another fly-by pass, twisting and turning in the air to try and capture the last of the barrange. She left a trail of explosions in her wake, shrapnel raining down and bouncing off Jean's shield (and through Kitty's phased form). "Is that it?"

“Filthy little mutants! You think this can stop me? That you can ever stop me?” MODOK screamed.

“Kind of. See, it’s in the job description.” Agent Coulson said mildly. He raised the plasma rocket launcher he’d taken from one of the downed AIM soldiers and fired both projectiles at close range. They hit hard, engulfing the creature in a corona of white hot flames. MODOK howled, batting feebly at the flames. As they closed in, he ignited his rocket pack, fleeing into the sky. There were just enough localized defenses left for him to hijack in order to cover his escape, screaming curses at them as he escaped.

“He’s going to be fun to explain to Fury.” Coulson said as he turned and shook Kane’s head. “I appreciate the last minute rescue. SHIELD forces are minutes out. We’ll lock this place down, make sure AIM doesn’t get to salvage anything.”

“Good. I think we made an enemy of the Giant Head. Rather he wasn’t fully supplied when he shows up again. Agents, Captain, next time you need help, try and give us a little more warning.”

“Done.”
