Garrison recruits some help to try to shut the Danger Room down, and what he gets instead is attacked, overheated, confused and unexpectedly pantsless.

"Kitty, we're going to do the emergency shutdown. When we do, isolate all the files from this session. We need to know exactly what went- no, I don't know what we're looking for in them. You're the tech wiz. OK, fair, so obvious you already knew to isolate the files. No, I don't-" Kane paused for a moment. "I'm sorry, alright. I have to go physically cut power to a big room now. You can yell at me after. Hey Molly."

"Uh---hi?" Molly said, blinking curiously. To say she was confused was a total understatement.

"Two questions: what the heck is going on? And where do you want me so I can help fix it?" She knew that she was there to help him shut stuff down but she still wasn't sure why.

"One, wish the hell I knew. Two, I ran through the emergency overrides with you, right? We need to kill the power links to the room and then manually open the doors. There's two key interlinks. Can you get the one over there? I'll take this one." He rapped on the wall panel beside him with his knuckle.

"Yep. Overides. Got it," Molly said with a salute as she dashed over toward the other interlink. Opening the wall panel, she squinted, trying to remember the sequence.

"I put these in after you, right?"

"It technically doesn't matter, but we want to try and do them as close to the same time as possible." Kane pulled out his panel and flipped open the casing to expose the large handle. "Just pull straight down on three and that will physically break the power connection and the backup to the Danger Room."

He grabbed his handle. "One, two... three." With three, Kane pulled straight down. The handle refused to budge. He pulled harder, putting his preternatural strength into it to no avail.

Molly did the same, but also found the handle unable to move. She paused. "Maybe it thinks we're the intruders?"

"It's a manual override. Pulling on the handle should-" Kane leaned in, grunting. The steel groaned under his strength but didn't move. "The handle is a direct cut off. The only way it shouldn' work is if it was welded. Come here and give me a hand with this one. Maybe together we can move it."

Shrugging, Molly gave a nod, grabbing onto the same handle as he did. "Did you guys design it this way? Cause this is ridiculous."

"The mechanism seems fused. Which means someone is deliberately sabotaging the room. And we have people in there. Try again." Kane leaned back in, straining against the steel. As he did, right in front of Molly the skin on the left side of his face rippled, replaced with a webbing of tech radiating out from around his eye.

Molly jumped back so quickly her shoes screeched against the floor. "Whoa! What the eff is that?"

"What's what?" Kane said, looking puzzled. He winced as a crackle of energy traced over the features. "Ow, shock..."

"Your eye is like the freaking Terminator!" She looked around, trying to figure out what to do.

"Oh crap uh...uh...That's not normal right?"

"What are you talking about?" Kane said, rubbing his eye. He stepped back and looked into the glass over the fire suppression system, but his eye was fine. "I don't get- ow!" He yelped, pulling at his shirt. The cloth was disintegrating, and Molly could see that the circuitry on his face was gone, but strips of it banded his waist.

"Dude, just trust me. Some weird what the fuckery is going on. I--lift up your shirt. Look! You've got like...weird...techno stuff on your stomach," she said, gesturing wildly toward his torso.

"What- fuck!" More energy arced around him, as the circuitry shimmered and sloughed off in a smattering of black dust. He poked at it for a second before there was a crack, a whiff of ozone, and fire engulfed his right leg up to the hip. Kane tore away his pants and underwear at the waist, tossing the burning clothes to one side. Lines of technology ran up and down his leg, discharging energy as it grew over his skin, encompassing more and more of his leg.

Molly's eyes widened and her cheeks flushed as she got a gander at Canadian sausage before quickly averting her look toward Garrison's face. "Uh---should I call for help? I--I don't know what to do." This wasn't something she could really punch.

"Get a fucking exorcist!" Kane said, staring down at his body as the technology spread further, heavy electrical shocks travelling back and forth around his body. The pain was excruciating and he gritted his teeth, falling to his knees as the whine of energy got louder and louder.

It reached a crescendo and with a blinding flash, the energy discharged all around him, scorching the walls and grounding into the internal dampening. The lines of technology turned black and like before, evaporated off him in a shower of black dust. Breathing heavily, Kane got his hands under him and levered himself up shakily to his feet. The shocks had stopped.

Molly had gotten out her phone and was trying to call someone when she felt the ionization in the air and the hair on her arms (as well as the hair on her head) started to rise.

"Oh shi---" She dove behind one of the consoles and stayed close to the floor as the energy discharged and everything went to hell. She knew she wasn't entirely unsquishable for some stuff, and didn't want to test her limits.

Hearing the hard breathing on the other side of the console, she took a moment to glance down at her phone (fried), then let out a breath and slowly poked her head up.

"Are you...?" she said. She wasn't sure what she was going to finish that sentence with:

Okay?

You?

"What the hell was that?" Kane was breathing heavily, staring down at his hands and his limbs, looking for any sign of the technology. "I mean... what the hell was that?"

Molly blinked. "You're asking me? How should I know?" she said incredulously, walking out from behind the control.

Biting her lip, she tapped her chin. "Hmm," she said. Slowly approaching the black dust, she crouched down then pulled out a pair of plastic gloves, a small magnifying glass, and some tweezers from the small toolkit in her patch covered fanny pack.

After putting the gloves on, she hesitantly picked up some of the black dust with the tweezers and took a peek.

"Oh shit. I know what this is."

"... and? Are we doing some kind of callback thing here?" Kane crossed his arms over his bare chest. "What tried to fry me to death with lightning?"

Molly glanced up at him, one green eye looking comically large from behind the magnifying glass.

"Tiny, tiny robots. Nanites. We ran into them in Alaska after Agent Coulson asked for some help. This one guy tried to take over town with them. A few of us got infected with them. It....was not fun," she said, making a face.

"I wanna take a sample but I don't wanna take a chance on plastic baggies. Think they got any tiny tiny jars in the medlab?"

"I think a thousand urine tests and semen samples likely say yes. I'm going back to the control room and see if I can find a way to shut down the Danger Room before these things accidentally kill the half dozen people in it but shutting down all the security protocols."

"My phone's fried but I'll come back to check in," Molly said, packing her stuff back into her fanny pack except for the tweezers. She wasn't taking any chances.

"If these really are nanites, the problem's way bigger than just the danger room. They can turn people, make them do bad things. I'm thinking maybe you weren't able to be turned cause of your powers. But the others won't be so lucky."

"My omniskin." He said after a pause, looking down at his hands and further to the unblemished skin of his torso and legs. "It must have triggered a response when it tried to Superman 3 me and used the energy to short it out..." He cocked a leg, turning to look at the skin on his rear and down the backs of his thighs and calves where some of the technology skin had emerged.

"It probably saw it trying to sneak in on its territory and---" she paused, looking for a moment where he was looking before her eyes widened and she turned quickly on one heel. "Yeah...clothes clothes would be...good," she said. Naked ex-teachers were not what she expected to see today.

"Huh? Oh, yeah." Kane didn't have much body modesty. Aitkins had taken care of that. But he didn't want to make anyone uncomfortable and he made a beeline for the change rooms next to the DR which were stocked with workout clothes. "I'm going back to the control room and see if we can find another way to shut things down. Get to the lab and keep me updated."

"I gotta get a new phone first but I'll figure something out. Talk to you in a bit," Molly replied with a salute.
