Betsy and Hope - dress shopping

"So anything special on your wishlist today?" Hope asked as they entered Neiman Marcus to start their shopping spree, weaving their way through various people hurrying around them. "Except the gorgeous gown of course.”
“Well, that is the primary objective, but I am also in need of some new shoes. Winters here are rather harsh on footwear,” Betsy mused. She cast a critical eye at the dresses adorning the mannequins inside the store. “Do you have a specific style in mind for the gala?”
"Hmm, I think I am pretty open. Elegant, not overly fuzzy and mostly white or cream." Hope explained as she paused at a picture of a dress. "Since this is an official occasion. How about you? Any specific theme in mind?”
“I haven’t really decided at all yet. Lace perhaps? I was hoping I’d find something that inspired me here,” Betsy said while looking around the shop with a rather gloomy expression. “Nothing has caught my eye though.”
"I think we only have seen a small selection." Hope surveyed her friend critically. "And I don't know... lace is nice, but I would picture you in something with a little bit more eye catching... a little more drama, so to speak.”
Betsy sighed, then pulled herself up to smile at Hope. “I have an idea... How about I look for a gown for you and you try to find one that would suit me? Obviously you wouldn’t need to agree if you don’t like it, but it might be fun to experiment anyway."
Hope's eyes glimmered and a grin played around her lips. "You do realize you might be going to a dangerous place there? But alright, anything that is an absolute no go?"
“Not really. Just remember that it goes both ways, luv,” Betsy said in her best Yorkshire impression.
"Oh, but that is easy to resolve. We each get veto rights. There, easily solved." Hope eyed the various mannequins and the dresses on them. "Now, is there anything you absolutely won't touch. For example... yellow or anything like that would look horrid on you.”
“You have better taste than I do, anyway,” Betsy shrugged. “Since it’s Black Court I would prefer to avoid anything that would give them too many ideas, so nothing too bondage chic.” She emphasized her point by gesturing at a mannequin wearing an article of clothing that would not be out of place at a BDSM club. “Oh, and for the same reason no black, obviously. What are your hard no's on this?"
"On that note, I would suggest not wearing anything white or cream either. Just to be sure you do not declare an alliance you do not want to declare." Hope cautioned her friend. "And from that standpoint, I will have to go with white or cream. Otherwise, something that isn't too out there is also it for me.”
“You are right, I should probably err on the side of caution at this point. Could you stick to solid colours in that case, jewel tones perhaps, and I will try and find something white that doesn’t look too much like a wedding dress. If we meet back here in 15 minutes or so with some options?” Betsy suggested.
"Jewel colors should look gorgeous on you." Hope agreed. "I should be able to find something in that time, though maybe it would be easiest to meet at the dressing rooms over there?”
“It’s a plan,” Betsy agreed easily. “See you in a bit.”

Betsy looked around the dressing rooms before spotting Hope and pointing her out to the salesperson she had gently harangued into helping her. “So, I found a couple of gowns in varying degrees of fabulous if you want to have a try?” she called out to the other woman.
"That all depends if you are ready to try on yours..." Hope carried two dresses and trailing behind her were two salespeople carrying three dresses each. "I might have gone a little overboard..." She admitted with a grin as she hung up her picks for Betsy and moved over to examine the dresses that had been picked out for her.
“Metallics seem to be the theme here,” the telepath remarked while looking over Hope’s selection. “I like the cheongsam-influence on this one,” she continued, running her hand over the red fabric of one of the gowns. “The colours of all of these are gorgeous, and not something I would have picked myself, I think.” She smiled at her friend. “I will have to try on all of them, and then find matching shoes. Do we have another party coming up soon so I could pick more than one?"
"At the HFC the question isn't if, but when the next event is coming up." Hope grinned as she quickly thanked the salespeople. Only one stayed to assist with the various gowns. "And if it's not the HFC, there will always be an occasion that requires a gown in NYC. So I would say... go for it. In fact..." Hope held up two of the gowns Betsy had chosen. "... I might do the same thing myself. These are gorgeous.”
“I’m glad you like them. I think the Halston will look particularly striking, if you decide to pick it,” Betsy noted. “I think I will go with metallic purple for this event, it has the right amount of pizazz. I’m definitely getting the cheongsam for a later date as well though. Mission accomplished, then?”
Hope raised her eyebrow at Betsy: "You do not even want to try them on? Because with gowns off the rack... I have had a few misfires there..."
The telepath waved her hand carelessly. “My tailor will be happy to do last-minute adjustments if anything needs tucking in. I don't mind waiting while you try yours out though."
"You are braver than I am. I remember one of my first gowns looking marvelous on the hanger, but terrible when I wore it. And terrible in ways a tailor would be unable to help." Hope quickly picked the hangers with the gowns of her choice. "So I'll be right back."
Betsy looked at the dresses she has picked and shrugged. “I guess you do have a point,” She conceded, and followed her friend to the changing rooms.
