Since their birthdays fall right in the middle of the holiday season, Meggan and Kurt take each other to see two movies early.
Meggan and Kurt's birthdays basically sprawled across the end of December, falling right into the busy season of the holidays. After much discussion, it was settled that they would go for two films, but early, so that it wouldn't interfere with anything later that might crop up. One would be her early treat for Kurt. The other would be his early gift for her. She had obtained the tickets for Encanto. She didn't know how she could have missed out on spotting a single trailer for it, or even an announcement of its very existence, but there they were.
Kurt smiled, taking her arm as they headed towards the cinema. "I hope you will enjoy this also."
“From the summary I spotted at the ticket site, I’m thinking I just might,” Meggan agreed with a nod. It had looked like it might be a good one, from what she had dug up earlier today. The cultural side of it had piqued her interest.
"And after that, Ghostbusters", he said with a grin. "Which ought to be entertaining."
"Should be! And I do know there's a scene with sentient marshmallows in that one," Meggan noted. "Not Killer Marshmallows chasing people, not a big one stomping down the street like the first movie, just...little ones on the shelf doing stuff in front of a character, and melting." Weirder stuff had happened to them. so it didn't feel like a bridge too far into strangeness.
"That sounds... unusual", he said after a moment's thought. "Especially for the Ghostbusters franchise. Somehow peaceful."
Meggan doubted it would be two hours of peaceful calm in the movie, given what she saw from the trailer. "Maybe they're a distraction from something much bigger, so everyone's looking at the cheerful creatures performing a samba and not fleeing the multidimensional creature ripping a hole in space and time, while they still can?"
He laughed. "That does seem rather more likely. Or perhaps a moment's respite from it."
Meggan opened the door for Kurt. “I half hope that someone left a note with all the unattended equipment. ‘Do not cross the streams, it would be very bad.’ There could be too much peace for them, from too many explosions if they decide to play with everything.”
"I wonder if any of the original cast will appear in this one", he said speculatively, "having given the new cast a chance to establish themselves."
“A passing of the torch sort of cameo feels like what they could do,” Meggan guessed. “Or Ray trains them in the occult and science before they blow up something really important. Like themselves, after a joy ride.”
"I do hope that is not how it ends", Kurt commented lightly. "It would rather put an end to the franchise."
"Yeah, a bit writing themselves into a corner," Meggan agreed. They were approaching the snack counter now. "Want anything?"
"It would hardly be a proper cinema experience without popcorn", he said with a grin. "And yourself? Or will you wait until your movie?"
Meggan nodded, since she had thought of the very thing, too. “Popcorn and a drink for yours now, popcorn for me with mine later.”
"Popcorn all round then!" was the cheerful reply. "Salted for me and - would you prefer sugared or with toffee?”
“With toffee,” Meggan confirmed as she moved to the line for snacks. She knew that when it was time for her to get drinks, she would be getting some root beer.
He smiled and joined her in the line. "Then I believe we have a plan."
