Kevin deals with the fallout of Darcy leaving.

Kevin knocked on the suite door, not entirely sure what he'd find. He and Doug weren't close and he knew the younger man's romantic situation was possibly complicated. But his letter was on top for a reason, even if Darcy hadn't consciously intended it, and he deserved to be told first.

"Come in." Doug's voice was somewhat flat, but emotion was definitely lurking just under the surface. He was scrolling somewhat listlessly through his phone, for lack of anything more productive to do.

"Got a letter for you. From Darcy." Kevin said, caging a bit.

Doug's expression was somewhat neutral, but it was obvious he was trying to figure things out, how all the tidbits of what he knew and didn't knew fit together. "And you're delivering it?" He knew Darcy and Kevin worked together a lot, but why... "What, am I getting 'Dear John'-ed?" he asked wryly.

"You know I once served with a guy named John in Korea who got Dear John-ed? Brutal." He passed over it and the gift. "I was asked to deliver the letter, not read it. However, you should know Darcy has taken a leave of absence for a few weeks to recoup."

"Somehow it never surprises me that you have a story for every occasion." Doug slid open the letter and began to read, his face hardening a bit more with each line. After scanning it several times, he opened the package and looked inside before setting it down. The gifts clearly had an effect on him, and he wiped a bit at the corners of his eyes. "Just...make sure she stays safe," he asked the older man. "And tell her...I'll wait, however long she needs."

"She's as safe as she can be. I'd say don't worry but that's just a dumb statement." Kevin said. He turned to leave and paused for a moment. "Once she sorts her head out, she'll be back before you know it. After all, I've seen this before and likely have a story about it."

The redhead that brought him food. That was what he remembered about Terry. But he had a letter and a gift for her, and an explanation as needed. It was a good reminder why he made sure to keep people at arm's length. He could have been comfortably inside someone in his bed right now.

Walking out of her office, Terry looked up from checking her phone and found a male Kevin Sydny standing in front of her. "Oh, hello!" She said, smiling. She'd enjoyed the drink they shared and found his powers fascinating, but she hadn't expected to see him again without another food delivery being involved.

"Good evening. I've got something for you. From Darcy." He passed over the letter.

Eyebrows rising, Terry blinked at the letter before taking it and opening it on the spot. "Why's she got you deliverin' things for her?" She asked as she tore the top edge of the envelope flap with one finger.

"She's taking some time away from the mansion to recoup. Last minute decision. But she wanted to be sure some things got to specific people." Kevin shrugged. "I'm up at all hours anyhow."

Terry paused, the letter not even completely open yet, and stared at Kevin for a moment. "Bless her, she's gone?" She hadn't even had a chance to really check on Darcy after she'd been found. Her friend had just been whisked away to the Medlab and now Darcy was gone?

"For a few weeks, yes." He confirmed. "She might have more details in the letter."

Terry finished opening the envelope at the prompting, skimming over what it contained. "Darcy mentions having made something," she said. "Is there a package t'go with the letter?" She didn't really know what her friend meant with parts of the letter. "What happened to her?" She asked, folding the letter back up so she could tuck it away in the envelope. "Why on Earth wouldn't I be able t'look at her when she comes back?"

"I'm just the messenger here. I know the same as you; she was found injured and went into the medlab. Possibly a powers accident." Kevin said, before rooting through his bag. "Right, there was this as well." He passed over the package.

It was squish, the package. Terry decided to open that later, given it seemed like something Darcy had made herself from the letter. "Well," she said, only to pause a moment later. "Thank you, for this. I do appreciate it, though I know I didn't seem to a moment ago. It's kind o'you t'bring this t'me."

"This was Darcy's request. Like I said, just the messenger." He said as he turned to leave.

"You dead yet? Make this one a lot easier to deliver." Kevin said, standing outside of the pool of light around Laurie's bed in the medlab.

Laurie’s eyes glittered with malice in a pale and drawn face. One side dipped lower than the other, a sign of atrophied muscle that had been damage by multiple small strokes.

She didn’t answer him, only continued to try and burn him on the spot with the power of her hatred.

He tossed the letter on the tray beside her.

"Darcy left you a letter. Before running out utterly terrified of you. I don't know all the details, but I know when I don't know something I should know and won't like." He took a seat, meeting her mismatched look.

“Go,”

Laurie’s voice was slurred and it was apparent the effort of talking exhausted her. She shook her head in a painfully slow manner and pointed toward the door with the stump of her ravaged arm, the other limp on the bed in front of her. It was obvious that whatever had happened had left her more broken then even before.

"I'm going to be looking. Hard. Do you want to tell me the truth now? I'll make it quick." Kevin's look was older than anything she'd ever seen, even from Essex.

Laurie’s eyes narrowed and the smile that graced her features was a horror to behold. It wasn’t just that only one half of her face moved, it was that she started to giggle, followed by an awful, mad laugh that seemed to come from somewhere deep inside.

"So no. Fair enough." He straightened up. "I have a feeling I'll be looking for you soon."

“Don’t count on it,” Laurie finally replied in a painfully slow slur that almost bubbled as drool ran out of the corner of one side of her mouth.

"I think differently. But we'll see." Kevin said as he stepped back.

“Take it with you,” Laurie gestured to the letter and then closed her eyes, laying back down in the bed as the burden of communicating exhausted her. “Don’t. Want. It.”

"No. It sits there. Last chance to be honest."

“Fuck. Off!”

It was said with all the emphasis she could manage, which wasn’t much and came out sounding whispered and slurred. Still, it had to be said.
