The X-Men discuss the upcoming fight.
The Blackbird raced across the skies at supersonic speeds, its advanced surveillance suite already combining its own impressive radar package with satellite imagery to pull together a fairly complete picture of the target site. The Brotherhood had engaged with the Sentinels in a running battle close to the facility, which was suffering from the extreme collateral damage from the battle. Magneto was off to one side, battling a lone figure, but the sensors were screaming about the level of power and energy involved in that fight.
There was always that moment of uncertainty when you first joined a fight when the battlefield first spread out before you and you saw what it was you were dealing with for the first time. The ever twisting and altering shape of what was to come, when all that information hit you at once. For a minute Scott's hands shifted on Blackbird's control surfaces, the craft responding to his touch like they were connected, slowing, its nose pointed down at the ground to give the team a few seconds more to prepare before they had to deploy. "This....doesn't look like it's gonna be an easy one guys. Remember, watch out for one another, don't go for those hero moments."
"I gotta great idea, let's not have me get my head crushed again." Kyle sprawled in the co-pilot's seat, loose limbs and bare feet in contrast to the grim expression on his face. "I mean fuck that guy, but let's maybe, I dunno, send Jean after anyone wearing a red solo cup on their head. TK him into the moon."
"Tempting," Jean said, studying the battlefield. "And we could keep it as an option but I'm more concerned about whoever he's fighting and what happens should he lose."
"Brotherhood wise we should at least have a little advantage over last time. We know who we are up against. Even they can't suddenly pull open a new can of trained fighters." Sooraya leaned closer, studying the robots. "The robots though... do we have any idea what we're dealing with there?"
"We know that they are designed to be mutant hunters, so it stands to reason they will be hardened against the most common sorts of powers - energy projection, body enhancements, and so on." Jean-Phillipe's gaze was fixed on the representation of the battlefield, especially the spot where Magneto was casting around huge amounts of power. "An entirely artificial construct will not have any mind to attack psionically...I would say that our best chance will likely be from giving them something unexpected that they cannot adapt to. Use the environment where powers are not as effective."
"We can only hope they have not been designed to specifically counter our powers", Kurt said quietly. "It is no secret what they are, after all."
"Maybe don't send me after the people with the distance powers?" Maya piped up from the back where she'd been mostly silent till this moment. This would be the second time she'd been sent out after people she was pretty sure could end her quickly but it wasn't like they had a lot of options. "Although I could probably take on that cat woman again now, Natasha's been showing me some moves I wouldn't mind trying on her."
"Up close and personal with those robots don't look like a good bargain either," Logan said as he tried to figure out where he slotted into the battle. "Can't get near Magnet Head though so that's lookin' like my best option. Whaddya say, kid, we keep an eye on each other?"
“Not a kid, but that’s a big yes from me,” Maya replied with a thumbs up.
She knew people like Logan and Kevin were older than dirt, so the whole Kid thing was logical from their point of view. But she was twenty, sure young but not an infant.
"I don't know how they could counter my powers, but that only works if someone isn't trying to deep-fry me until I go splat," Clarice was going to get Dragoness one way or another. She wasn't against using someone else to do it either. "Can an energy person combat energy? Because no matter what, me ending up in the Himalayas running isn't helpful."
"The Sentinels probably don't have specific counters to our powers, at least not the non-generic ones. They might be able to counter close-range combat or energy blasts but keep your environment in mind and I bet you'll all manage to come up with a surprise. After all, you've all been well trained."
