Alex meets with Callisto for an information exchange. It doesn't bode well.
The day was already off to a depressing start. Alex had met with a few of the Underground contacts, who had reported three missing kids total. One or two runaways? Sure, it happened. But three just gone? That wasn't normal.
He really hoped Callisto had better news.
He stopped at a food truck to get some hot dogs, then headed off to the meeting spot, holding up one of the hot dogs in an offering when he saw the woman. "Yo."
Callisto favoured him with her usual chin tip of greeting, and then a nod of thanks as she swiped the proffered dog, inhaling about half of it in one bite like an opportunistic counter surfing dog before speaking. "'What's up?"
"Hopefully nothing, but I'm not holding my breath." Alex took a quick bite of his own hot dog. "You missing any kids?"
The Morlock's brow furrowed, eye narrowing in sudden suspicion. "Who's asking?"
"We've got a few kids missing in the Underground, and a mom just came in to report her son missing - visible mutant, police aren't doing anything, you know the story. A little too much for it to be a coincidence, you know?"
Callisto's shoulders relaxed slightly, even as her face twisted in grim distress. She nodded. "Couple of ours haven't been seen in a bit. I thought they might be together somewhere, fucking around, you know - not literally-" She made a face, tipped her head from side to side. "I mean, maybe literally. But if you've missed some too..." She shut her mouth tightly, blowing a sigh out through her nose. "I can get you more info. When they were seen last, where. Maybe someone can start pulling CCTV in the area? Though in honesty our lot are trained to avoid it."
"Any little bit helps," Alex said with a nod. "We're getting info on where all ours were last seen, maybe there's a common thread or something."
Callisto nodded. "I'll dig up what I can and send a runner." She jammed the other half of the hotdog into her mouth, then spoke around it. "A'yfing else?"
Alex dug through his jacket pocket, pulling out a few wallet-sized photos. "If you see any of them, give us a shout? And obviously we'll do the same if we get any clues."
A sharp nod. "Gottit. I'll be in touch."
