As things between the Maggia families escalate, X-Force calls an intelligence meeting on the state of the Maggia gang war and the upcoming potential meet which seems like a trap.
"Looks like the Maggia had called an emergency meeting. The heads of all the families, the underbosses, and just a couple of extra men are meeting in a couple of days to try and prevent a total internal war. Normally, this would be Christmas for intelligence, but to the shock of fucking no one, both Hammerhead and the Karnelli's are planning to ambush the meet with outside forces. Wanda's European contacts just let her know Silver Sable International just accepted a fat mercenary contract for New York. She's already on a plane back. And Artie just tipped us off that the Hammerhead family is now in tight with Tombstone and his bikers. Shock troops are coming, people." Kevin sat back in his chair, fingers steepled in front of his mouth. "What's the play that doesn't destabilize the city into an all out gang war or give Madam Masque total control?"
“Assassination won’t work, there’ll be too many eyes on anyone valuable given how many moving parts there are.” Jubilee noted, pulling up a few lead players and throwing them at the virtual board they’d had installed recently by Emma. It saved on crouching around laptops. “Can we redirect any of them? Make them late or disappear for enough time to control this bullshit?”
Sarah considered the faces on the screen and wondered what they had in common. They all liked bourbon, all but one preferred craps to roulette. They had families and grandkids and went to the horse track on Sundays. "How good are your liars? If you can put the word out that someone plans to drop information that can damage their reputation, these might just be the kind of guys who try to ride the storm out at home rather than deal with the public embarrassment."
"Not sure that'd work right now. Everyone has too much at stake to not at least show up to this meet. Even if we decided to tip our hands and let them know outside players were about to strike, there would be little trust put into that intel. They're too riled up and suspicious right now. Maybe if we'd had a long term plant in there that'd been seeding information for the past year or so...." Natasha bit the corner of her lip. Sneaking into the meet was out of the question. They wouldn't trust any newcomers on the scene to be there. It'd be the highest security meeting held in the city in a long time.
"If there is no complicated answer to a complicated situation, brute force on a smaller scale may work," North said. "There is not a lot of time for us to move, but enough to scramble the ambushers a bit, perhaps."
Felicia hummed, unamused by the prospect but conceding the point. "He's not wrong. I prefer secrets to brawls but this may be our only choice given our limitations."
“Who is the easiest to get to?” Jubilee asked, her gaze tracking across the information they’d been handed. “Bikers? Hopefully with less Demon Lord connections this time?”
"That biker group is controlled by a boss named Tombstone. Mutant, tough, brutally cruel in a fight. He's not going to be a pushover." Kevin shook his head. "Sable... I think I can talk them out of intervening. We have some history. As for the bikers, I hate to be the blunt instrument, but the only way to take them out of the picture is to cause some damage and then tie them up with cops and emergency units so they can't get organized and roll. Nat, North, Jubilee... I think this one needs to be you. Cause as much damage as you can and then move on to the Karnelli compound and link up with Sarah. Her aunt won't be at the meet. As for Hammerhead, I'll grab Wanda. She and I can make a hole for Felicia. We take both of them out, this war stops before it can escalate further."
