Kane goes to collect Jean and help get them all out and home.
Kane was back at the original port in point. There was no sign of Clarice, but he lay down Tandy's unconscious form as Colossus and Dust hit the rally point. They all knew the fallback and extraction site and yet... His head snapped up as a telepathic connection touched for the first time since the switchboard had gone dark.
"Kane. Help." It was simple and explicit. He took a minute to make sure Dust had Tandy covered before he hit the tunnels, racing down following the telepathic tether. Within a few minutes, he pulled up, seeing his teammate on the ground.
"Shit, Doc." He said, kneeling down beside her and holding her chin. "You got the wrong end of the boot."
Jean's eyes fluttered. "What gave it away?" she mumbled. By now the vertigo that had set the world on its side was finally gone, but the adrenaline was wearing off, and the pain had barged in.
She tried to focus on Garrison, the blood thick in her mouth while also trailing down her neck the cut on her chin.
Important, this was important...someone had to know.
"They're...working for Laurie and Essex."
"I know. I ran into Collins. She-" Kane paused. "It can wait for the ride home. Look at me. Can you focus on my eyes?" He said, checking for concussion.
Jean squinted, trying to look up his direction but the light from the hallway above him was too bright. She reflexively covered her face with her hand, then leaned forward to spit some blood out when the taste got to be too much.
"Is everyone else okay? Blink--"
"Everyone is starting to call in. We'll do a check in at the rally point." Her pupils weren't dilated, so he didn't think she was concussed. He put his arm around her waist and helped her to her feet. "Which is where we need to get you to."
Jean's legs buckled the moment he pulled her up, and if he hadn't had his arm around her waist she would have fallen. "Okay...light...lightheaded," she mumbled. The fight had taken a lot out of her. While she'd live, she felt not only like she'd been on the underside of someone's shoe, but also embarrassed.
"Just relax Doc. I'll get you where you need to be." He scooped her up easily, a reminder of his strength. He didn't run at top speed, not wanting to jar her more than necessary. Instead, it set out on a gentle jog, trying to keep her steady. His comms lit up with X-Men as they started to reach the rally point. "Looks like people are coming in on their own two feet."
"Hopefully they did better than me...and Blink. I hope...I hope she's okay," Jean said. Luckily most of them had basic first aid training, but if anyone was gravely injured things would be problematic.
"I'm sure she's fine. All that matters is everyone goes home." He tried to reassure her as they got closer to the rally point.
Jean closed her eyes, wiping the blood away from her mouth. "Right," she said. She let out a breath.
