Speaking of being kidnapped for picnic lunches, Kitty takes Jamie to the rose garden at the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt and they are appallingly cute, much to the amusement of a much older, but similarly cute, couple.

I really need to do a road trip one of these days. Cora keeps having Kitty take Jamie to these really nifty-sounding places. :)

Kitty tugged on Jamie's hand. "Not much farther," she promised as she headed down the hill path above the stream. "It's just over there..." She trailed off as she spotted the brick wall around the garden, ivy crawling all over and the tops of some of the flowers peaking over it. "Come on," she said, turning to smile at Jamie.

Jamie grinned. "Take as long as you want. I'm just a helpless victim here."

"In there," Kitty said as she lead him down the path towards the main garden. "Came here a couple years ago on a field trip with Dr. Grey..." She paused, then smiled again. "I think you'll like it."

"Safe bet. I'm easy to . . ." Jamie trailed off as the rose garden came in sight, flowers of every color and description just starting to open their petals, their soft fragrance drifting on the air. "Oh, wow. This is amazing."

Kitty grinned, tucking the picnic basket closer to her side. "Isn't it?" she asked, her voice hushed. Pausing, she stood and looked around, letting the sight capture her

Jamie smiled and slipped an arm around Kitty's waist. "You have the best ideas."

Kitty's head rested on his shoulder. "Glad you like," she said. Turning slightly, she pressed a kiss to his cheek. "Come on, I brought food." She pointed towards one of the stone benches in the middle of the flowers.

"Well, that's a coincidence. I like food." Jamie led them over to the bench and sat down. "They're going to be OK with us eating here, right?"

Kitty nodded. "Yeah. It's a public park, so as long as we clean up after ourselves, it's ok."

"Excellent. We should be good unless you brought pudding. I might be forced to make a mess out of pudding."

She giggled. "Nope, mostly fruit and sandwiches." Settling down onto the bench next to Jamie, she put the basket on the ground and opened it.

"Sounds delicious." Jamie took a strawberry out of the basket and waved it temptingly a few inches from Kitty's face. "All sorts of fun things coming into season now . . ."

Laughing, Kitty said, "True," then opened her mouth for the berry he was taunting her with.

Jamie popped it in her mouth, then brushed his fingers along her cheek. "You make me happy, you know."

Kitty bit down, smiling at him. She caught his hand and dropped a kiss into his palm. "Good, then my nefarious plan is working."

"It's a good plan. I'm right behind this plan." He smiled. "Is there a next part to the plan?"

"What, you mean after showing you pretty flowers and feeding you?" Kitty raised an eyebrow. "Well, there's always this..." Leaning forward she kissed Jamie properly.

"Mmm. That's always a good step in a plan. It could be the whole plan and I wouldn't mind at all." He grinned. "Athough technically at this point I think I've fed you."

She stuck her tongue out at him. "I brought the food, and just because you haven't seen fit to eat any of it yet..."

"We got sidetracked," Jamie said loftily. "By important sidetracking things." He retrieved a sandwich from the basket and took a bite. "Better now?--ooh, chicken. Yum."

That earned a proper laugh. "Yes, much better." She pulled out another sandwich for herself, and also the thing of strawberries. Glancing around at the flowers she spotted an elderly couple walking slowly through the flowers. The woman was smiling in their direction as she said something to her husband. "I think we've been spotted," Kitty said with a smile of her own.

"That's what we get for not being invisible. I think you're well worth spotting, anyway."

"Mmm," Kitty agreed somewhat distractly, watching the woman lay her hand on her husband's arm and smile at him. "Aren't they sweet?" she asked, then looked back at Jamie and grinned. "And what do you want to bet that's just what they're saying about us?"

"Oh, probably." He grinned back. "I always like seeing old couples like that, where they've . . . sort of grown around each other. I bet they finish each others' sentences."

Kitty nodded. "And they know each other's favorite everything..."

"And they don't really have to talk when it's just the two of them, because they've said everything a hundred times, but they do anyway because they never get tired of hearing it."

"Exactly," Kitty said with a nod. "It sounds... comfortable."

"Comfortable sounds good." Jamie twined his fingers in between Kitty's, bringing her hand up for a kiss. "Sounds like something to shoot for."

"Yeah, I'd be for that."

"Let's try, then." He grinned. "And then when we're their age we can come back here and look for teenagers."

"Ah, another excellent plan from Madrox and Pryde," Kitty said with a smile, then leaned over and kissed him again.

Oh, hey, found a new ice cream place in the area... Bit of a drive, but well worth it. *grins* (What can I say, it's easier when I actually live vaguely in the area.)
