eXcalibur discusses offering a permanent place on the team to Namor, but opinions differ just enough to make the discussion interesting. ((Backdated))
Clint had his feet propped up on the desk in front of him, hands full of someone else's ripped uniform. He wasn't much for mending, per se, but he could figure out how to fix it so it didn't happen again -- and then reinforce everybody else's to avoid that kind of damage in the future.
"So," he said, glancing up at his teammates with his brows raised. "How's everybody feel about the bar brawl?"
"It was fun until Alani got bonked," Matt replied with a grin, cracking his knuckles. "10/10 would do again."
"I'm grateful nobody else was whacked over the head from behind," Meggan pointed out after an amused head shake at Matt's comment. If they had all been knocked out, then in all likelihood they wouldn't have been able to get the needed message to the right people.
"I got better." Alani shrugged from her seat, a smoothie sitting in her lap, condensation sweating from it, though she flashed Meggan a smile and raised a hand to form a half heart. "Which reminds me — thaaanks Meggan, confirmed no concussion because of you. I’ll give it a solid 5/10, would do again with some changes, mostly no K.O.s."
"Ugh, I'm a little jealous I missed it. Not that guarding Evan wasn't important but...." Molly said, popping a blueberry into her mouth. "Namor was not fun. He doesn't seem used to working with people. Kinda felt like he didn't care if I got thrown off a cliff if it meant the mission succeeded. Not very teamly."
"So....situation normal, for Namor," Matt noted. Namor was many things, including ruthlessly pragmatic. "Though this does bring up a good point. Do we want him to join Excalibur? He isn't the friendliest, but maybe he just needs to work more with a team and have friends so he can loosen up? Regardless though, he was good to have working with us overall."
"I dunno... I kinda like having him around," Kitty said, then swiftly added, "But don't tell him I said that." She glanced over at Molly, then circled her gaze between the others. "We're kind of the island of misfit toys anyhow, right? What's one more?"
Clint chuckled. "I mean, I'll be the first to admit that having him around is handy. That man can fly and he's incredibly difficult to hurt. We could start a pro-con list, if you guys want to, but just from my rough count of what all you guys said, it seems like maybe we should invite him in?"
"If he can learn to work with a team," Molly said. She was hesitant but if he could work on it....
Matt nodded, agreeing, "No one's perfect and we don't want perfect, like Kitty said, the Island of Misfit Toys. He'll fit right in."
“Oh I’d vote for Namor joining, no offense to everyone else but I’ve worked with him more than most of you, and he does good work.” The ‘when he wants to’ remained unspoken, as Alani sipped her smoothie. "He's got, uh, diplomacy, and he's powerhouse. So that's that on that."
Meggan was in total agreement there as she nodded. In her mind, there were definitely far more pluses than minuses when it came to Namor’s presence being beneficial if he joined the team. They really and truly needed him. “I’d definitely be casting my vote in favor of him joining, too.”
"Okay," Clint said, putting down the suit he'd been pondering as he listened to the discussion going on around the room. "Since this team is a democracy, not an autocracy, let's take an official vote." Dropping his feet to the floor, he glanced at everyone and said, "All in favor of officially asking Namor to join eXcalibur, say aye -- or, y'know, raise your hand."
Molly shrugged. "I say trial run. If he can prove he can work with a team and look out for his teammates when the crap hits the fan...then I'll vote yes."
"What kind of mission do you have in mind? Could be fun," Kitty commented. She raised her hand and said, "I vote yes. Or trial run. I bitch about the guy, but I think he could be a real asset." She hated to admit it but his ego was inspiring. Perhaps in all the worst ways since she found herself wanting to perform better just to prove to him that he wasn't the greatest superhero out there, but that had its advantages too.
"Teammate means they have your back and you get the job done together, not that you're besties," Matt noted, hand raised, "So I vote yes." That had been a hard lesson learned many years ago. Friends were great, but not always the best people to work with. And you didn't have to like the people you worked with, so long as everyone was professional.
Alani frowned but slowly shrugged. The condition didn't make any sense to her, but maybe that was colored by the head bonk she'd received. "I mean, the team as a whole is a trial run innit, so I don't see why there'd be a noted label of trial member for him? I stand by my yes vote."
Meggan agreed with Matt on that one; so long as Namor had everyone’s backs when it absolutely counted, then he would most likely pass the trial run with them. “Technically, it sort of is, yeah. Unless something else gets tossed in,” she was quick to assure Alani. With that, she raised her hand. “I’m keeping my yes vote, too.”
Glancing around at the other team members who hadn't actively participated in the conversation, Clint nodded. "Cool. Trial basis with the option of moving into a full-time position on the time. I'll hit him up, let him know he can come around here whenever he likes -- see if maybe we can't all get to know him a bit better.
