Arthur delivers Inez from the mess she brewed at X-Factor Investigations to the mansion.
Inez felt a little bad that her arrival - or, more accurately, the news she'd shared upon her arrival - had sent everyone into a tizzy. They'd ordered their Chinese food and had coffee delivered as well, and did her best to stay out of their way as they ate and plotted the best courses of action to take.
So she'd only helped herself to one plateful of food. A big plate, but still. Just the one.
As she finished up, Inez got up to throw her paper plate away into the garbage, only she didn't know where that was, exactly. Not wanting to interrupt anyone, she got up and looked around for the nearest garbage can herself.
Instead she ran into someone she hadn't met yet. An empty plate in one hand, she waved with the other and gave the other person a big grin.
"Howdy," she said with a nod.
"Howdy partner," was delivered with a totally over the top accent that immediately made its owner smile even wider at his own ridiculousness. "You'll have to excuse me, I have always wanted to do that. Even back in the business I never got cast for any westerns." The blonde man, entirely too genuine, held out a hand, "I'm Arthur."
"Hi Arthur, I'm Inez. Nice to meet you." She chuckled at his apology and shook her head back and forth. "Nah. nothin' to be excused for." She shook his hand then picked up on what he'd just said. "In the business, huh? You're an actor?" She wasn't very current when it came to such things so she hoped he'd forgive her if she should've recognized him.
She got a bright, clear laugh with that statement, and his hand went casually back to cup the back of his head as he considered that statement. "In another life. These days I've got more of a jack of all trades thing going for me here. Case prep, interviewer, soccer coach, yoga at the center, community organizer... "
As with that thought, Arthur nodded out toward the bustle of plots happening in the main part of the office. "Take a look at all that chaos. I hope you and yours are well?"
"That's quite a lotta hats to be wearin', mister. Kudos to you for pullin' it all off!" Her smile faded a little at the latter part, though there was no way this person she just met could've known she had no family. Not any more, anyway. "I'm doin' just fine, thank you. Just me, no, uh... mine. But doin' as well as can be expected." She wasn't sure just how big of a hornet's nest she might've kicked up there so maybe that was a little premature but that aside she was fine.
"How 'bout you?" she awkwardly replied, unsure of what else to say at that point.
He gestured as if to tip an imaginary cowboy hat at her. It was exactly as corny as it should be, but with any luck it would break the tension. "They've been itching for a challenge. Good to see the team moving." That was... really an understatement and a misunderstanding, plus several layers of mis- that didn't have exact English equivalents.
Oblivius, Arthur continued brightly, "I'm out the door myself. Have to go grab some donations that ended up upstate instead of in the city and some mail. So add another hat to that pile."
Inez laughed at the gesture, relaxing again as he achieved his goal of lightening the mood. She nodded as he spoke of the team and being busy, at least that was a positive thing even if she'd been the one to kick them into action.
"Oh, I gotcha, no worries. Don't let me hold you up, just explorin' the place a little while they're busy." She'd heard tell of a mansion but had no idea where that was, so for now she was content just to explore the office area. "It was nice t'meet you though, Arthur, and hopefully I'll see you around again, yeah?"
This got her a frown. The man's eyes darted briefly over to where the team was busy bustling as an idea formed. "What if we escape together, huh? The group over there is showing all the telltale signs of being knee-deep in it. They'll need time and about three more orders of take out before needing anything else. Let's turn my routine chores into a welcome tour."
His eyes were full of the new-puppy hope that she'd both agree and stop to appreciate what, he deemed, to be a clever rhyme.
Her eyes twinkled at the prospect, and she stole a quick glance towards the others Arthur spoke of before turning back and giving him a quick nod. "I think I would like that. A lot, actually." The clever rhyme was the cherry on top, and earned him a breathy laugh, unlike her usual loud chuckle or snort - a genuine expression he'd extracted within mere minutes of meeting her.
Letting her hands dangle to her sides before sliding into her pockets, Inez shifted her weight to one side and cocked her hip a little, then her head at the same slight angle as she raised an eyebrow. "Where should we start then, good sir?"
"Just a second."
There was a pause as Arthur leaned out toward the rest of the office and announced. "Taking Miss Inez on the grand Westchester tour while you stay busy. Blink twice if anyone objects."
Another pause. They might not have even heard him, but that didn't stop Arthur from turning back in triumph.
"You're in for a treat, let me tell you. Let's begin."
