Kane and Inez catch up at the bar, where both have interesting news to share with the other.

"So I heard a rumour." Kane said, setting a pint and a shot of Crown in front of Inez before putting his own beer and shot on the table and taking the chair opposite her. "That someone took a job offer from everyone's most complicated pink haired psion. That true?"

"Word gets 'round here fast, huh?" she asked with a smirk, lifting the shot and tipping it in salute to Kane before throwing it down the hatch. "S'a good gig and it's 'bout time I pulled my weight, so I figured why not?" Inez pulled the pint closer to her, bending down to sip it a little since it was generously full to the brim.

"It'll help keep me outta trouble too, not that I've been into any yet, but y'know. Idle hands, devil's workshop, etcetera etcetera," she said with a wink.

"I don't know if I'd consider X-Factor Investigations a good way to stay out of trouble. But they do good work." Kane said, giving her a slight tilt to his pint as a toast before taking a sip. "It's also nice to see Quire step up for the agency."

"I guess I'd be lyin' if I said I wanted to stay completely out of trouble," Inez added with a wink before sipping her drink again after returning the toast. "Work is good, though, and he made too good of an offer for me to say no. It's gonna be interestin' I bet."

Leaning back in her chair, she crossed her legs and looked over at Kane. "Speakin' of interesting, what've you been up to lately, mister? Anything new and excitin' goin' on in your life?"

"I now have a wolf." She heard a muffled 'hrrmph' under the table, vaguely aware of something settling near her feet. "Pulled me unconscious out of that stream leading to the lake and doesn't seem to want to leave. So. Wolf." He finished, a little deadpan before taking a drink.

She blinked at that, and was about to call bullshit, then she heard the hrrmph and felt the settling and... "Wait, you're serious?" Inez had to look just to be sure, and yup, under the table was one actual wolf. "Holy shit," she murmured. "Now I've seen it all." It seemed to be well-behaved which was good at least. "So you're keepin' him, then? That's... pretty cool, I gotta admit. Coolest thing I've heard since baseball comin' back. S'been a long winter for sure," she added, taking another sip.

"I don't think I get a say in it. He's not a pet. He's just... decided he's with me and I don't have a choice." Kane said with a shrug. "But... hard to turn down a cool wolf, right?"

"I imagine not, no. Can't say it's ever come up for me but I reckon you don't look a gift wolf in the mouth anymore than you would a horse," she chuckled.

She peeked under the table again with a grin. "Do they know you've got him in here?" As she asked Inez realized it probably would've been hard to miss him coming in but still.

"Yeah, found a loophole in state law. He's not technically domesticated, so there's nothing saying legally he can't be on the premises. The assumption is that people wouldn't want a wild animal in their bar without the need for a law restricting it."

"Technically correct, the best kinda correct," Inez agreed, nodding sagely. "Well, congrats on your new pet wolf. And to me for speakin' a sentence I never thought would be possible, but here we are." She took another drink and grinned.

"You'll learn the ins and outs of the ins and outs with X-Factor. You ok with settling in Manhattan?" Kane said, taking another sip as he tracked the night.

"So far, so good," she replied. "It ain't the same as home, far from it, but I like it well enough. Havin' a roof over my head an' work to do goes a long way, I 'spose." And, though she'd likely never admit it to anyone lest it ruin her well-honed Texan girl reputation, she actually enjoyed the big city and its environs. "Y'won't see me struttin' down Broadway any time soon but it's not all bad."

Inez thought for a second while she took another sip. "What about you, y'like it here? It's gotta be different from Canada," she inquired. She'd never been that far north before and knew it wasn't all snow and cold but still, it had to be pretty different.

"Actually, New York City is surprisingly similar to Toronto. It's on a completely different scale and a little dirtier, but otherwise - very distinctive, very multicultural. I feel a lot more comfortable in Manhattan than I do in most American cities." Kane admitted.

"I've never been but huh, I didn't know that. Not that I thought it was all snow or whatnot, just mostly," she teased with a chuckle.

"It's been nicer here than what I'd expected, and what I'd heard about growin' up. Not exactly a lotta love for the east coast back home, not with everyone anyway. But I'm adaptable like that, I reckon," she finished with a wink and another sip.

"Yeah, I get that. Everyone outside of Toronto hates Toronto for reasons we haven't figured out, but also don't care, because they're outside of Toronto, so who cares, eh?" He said with a grin and a shrug. "I'm willing to bet that the Texas accent is getting you all kinds of attention on your first days of work in Manhattan."

"Mhm, f'r sure, though I am capable of reelin' it in when I wanna be more inconspicuous." She shrugged herself, a twinkle in her eye. "Of course, I ain't really known for my fancy talkin' or the like, it's more for my other attributes." Inez stretched her hands outward, lacing her fingers together and cracking her knuckles. "But if someone gets taken in by my lil' ol' accent, well, so much the better."

"Yeah, you are definitely a terrifying bar pickup for the unaware." He killed the last of his pint and waved for another drink. "So, job, room, local pub. Sure sounds like the drifter is setting down a root or two. At least in the short term."

Inez waved for another as well, a mouthful behind Kane but finishing off her own drink shortly afterwards. "Mhm, just a couple. Not too deep, though, but I'd by lyin' if I said it wasn't nice to stay in one place for a minute." Drifting had its perks but so did permanency, which she hadn't enjoyed for some time. It was nice having the place to hang your hat every night. "Maybe I'm XFI's wolf?" she asked with a laugh. "They fed me and now I'm stickin' 'round."

"Fair enough. Well, as the spokesman to the strays, it seems, I welcome you home... for now." He raised his glass in a toast as the two new pints were brought around.
