Kane and Jean morning ritual of being at the same kitchen at the same time for breakfast has turned into an unconscious spate of habits.

Kane walked into the kitchen at 7:00 in the morning. A lot of the mansion was still asleep or just waking up, but he was in his suit, ready to head into the office. As he walked in, he automatically pulled the tray out of the coffee maker, slapped in a filter and filled it up with the Tim Horton's blend he kept in the one cupboard. He thumbed the button just as Jean walked in behind him.

"Hey Doc, coffee's on."

"Awesome," Jean said, grabbing two pieces of bread out of the bread box and popping them into the toaster.

"I desperately need caffeine."

She was dressed for the day, but even though she currently didn't have an actual job to go to outside of the Medlab, Jean liked routine where possible. It made her feel accomplished.

"Who doesn't?" They said the same thing every weekday morning. He pivoted around her to the fridge and rummaged inside for a moment. "Two eggs?"

"Touche," Jean said, digging through the cabinets for the sugar and other coffee elements.

"Yes, please. Dash of salt and pepper."

She eyed the fridge and a jar of grape and strawberry jam floated out while the door was open and came to rest beside the toaster. Two plates came to float out beside it.

"Paper boy was slacking today, I had to wait for him to deliver the paper but it's on the counter."

"Someone needs to talk to that kid. We tip him thirty percent and we're still the last on the route." Kane said, cracking four eggs into the pan for sunny side up. "Is there pineapple juice or just orange and cranberry?"

"There's even mango guava today," Jean said, opening the door to the fridge and floating out the full contingent of fruit juices. "I went to the store and bought two of everything since someone keeps drinking everything and not replacing it." She squinted.

"Still haven't figured out the culprit but when I do they'll hear about it."

"That is more juice than any logical person needs." Kane said, shaking the pan for the eggs. "Sausages into the airfryer." He tossed them behind his back to her.

They stopped mid float and Jean opened the air fryer, popping them in.

"You know how many people live here. I probably should have bought more but I can't fit that much into my car."

"I'm not making breakfast for them. If they wanted it, they could get up when we do." Kane said, working on the eggs as she loaded up the fryer. They had a similar argument most mornings, which was 'if they made themselves breakfast, why didn't they do it for everyone'.

"I'm just saying it would be nice every once and awhile. Not every day," Jean said with a shrug.

"I bought extra juice because someone stole your juice, so then I figured...why not get some more for everyone else."

"There's a 6am DR mansion club because... because they need it.": Kane said, already making the eggs and grating a little salt and pepper on them. "Do you want chili flakes or hot sauce?"

Jean didn't answer for a moment, distracted by something on her phone.

"Grey, you got 30 seconds before they're overcooked." Kane said.

"Huh?" Jean glanced over. "Uh...sorry, chili flakes."

The toast popped up and she put one piece of each plate, tucking her phone back into her pocket.

"Grape jelly or strawberry jam?"

"Grape. Always grape. Man, there's none of the wild blueberry jam." Kane sighed and hit the button on the coffee machine. "You want- hell, coffee>"

"Hell coffee? Not particularly," Jean said, buttering the toast while it was still warm.

"Actual coffee, sure."

"So more grape?" Kane said, a bit confused, but he parceled out their eggs to each other.

"What?" Jean said with a puzzled laugh, opening up the jar of jelly.

"You asked if I wanted 'hell-coffee.' I meant actual coffee, not coffee from hell...I was joking."

"No, I thought you said-" Kane sighed. "Nevermind, I'm the one that needs the hell coffee this morning." He slid over both plates and turned back to collect their mugs. It was still brewing, so pouring involved a complicated process of keeping one mug under the drip while filling the other mug and then switching, but he managed it without spilling. Finally, he was able to sit, passing over a cup to her.

"If this whole agent thing doesn't work out you could definitely make it as a barista," Jean said, adding some cream and sugar to the cup and taking a sip.

"That's some good hell coffee."

I really enjoyed the simplicity of this log. The way the two of them unconsciously work together through common habits... this is truly a slice of life mutant log.
