Molly's snack is the next subject of Sharon's gastronomic curiosity. This time the target bites back.

"What is this drink?"

As the voice spoke the transparent plastic of Molly's boba tea squeaked across the table. This turned out to be caused by the purple-furred hand reaching over the edge of the table to paw at it with light, exploratory taps.

Molly jumped, nearly falling out of her chair with an unintelligible 'arugh?'!' at the sudden appearance of 'hand.' It did not matter that it was furry and purple, just that it was there and there was talking when before it was nice and quiet.

"Boba? It's like... milk tea with popping bubbles of juice at the bottom," she said. She liked the tapioca pearls okay but popping boba was her favorite.

Purple...purple...who was purple? That one person who everyone was mad at was purple but they didn't have fur. Was this person new?

"I've heard of boba." A black and pink mottled nose appeared over the edge of a table, sniffing delicately. "Never had a chance to try. I would like to taste."

Molly made an 'awww' face at the cute nose, closing her comic book to focus on the new entertainment. "Uh...sure, but if you don't like mango you might not be a fan."

The purple hands appeared again to grip the edge of the table, followed by the rest of the speaker. A man-sized purple felid appeared over the tabletop. It was eyeing the extra-wide boba straw that pierced the sealed plastic lid with an air of puzzlement.

"Mango is acceptable," Sharon said. "But straws are problematic."

Molly paused, tilting her head. "Um...how about spoons?" She said hopping up from the kitchen barstool she was sitting on to rummage around.

Sharon raised her hands and wiggled her fingers at the older girl. "Hold a spoon, yes. Have a mouth designed to eat from them, no. Is there a bowl? I will lap."

It took Molly a moment to realize what she meant. Mainly cause most people didn't really do that with their food. But she was a cat so it totally made sense.

"Okay..." she said, grabbing a bowl. She held it awkwardly.

"Do you uh...want it on the counter or the floor?" she asked honestly.

"Floor is more comfortable, thank you." Sharon had trailed into the kitchen after her. While she was still a respectful distance from Molly, she was still close enough to imply that she considered the woman's offer a binding promise.

Giving her a thumbs up, Molly put the bowl she found on the floor and grabbed her (former) boba tea, pouring it into the bowl. The popping boba pearls landed on the bottom with a faint plop plop plop.

"Tada!" she added, motioning to the bowl.

The cat loped over, tail swishing. "Internet was obsessed with boba a few years ago. Will it live up to expectations, or prove a disappointment? We shall see." She settled over the bowl to drink, then remembered her manners.

"I am Sharon. I live here now."

"In the--kitchen?" Molly said, still trying to get over the surreal experience of a purple cat taking her boba tea and drinking it off the floor and a bowl. Didn't expect that one waking up this morning. This would totally be something someone high could have said.

"If I pleased," Sharon said matter-of-factly. "Didn't come with anything, so room is unimportant. Currently exploring my options. Who are you?"

"I dunno, people come in and out of here a lot. Might get kinda loud," Molly shrugged. She extended a hand.

"I'm Molly. Being without stuff totally blows. That happened when I got here too. But then you can get your own stuff and your own room and it's awesome."

"Was given a guest room. A permanent suite eventually, maybe. For now it is a trial residence." Sharon dipped her head and took an experimental lap at the contents of the bowl. "Milk tea? Pleasant. I like it."

"Like at the mansion at all? Or like...that room?" Molly said, she then nodded. "There's all kinds of flavors. I used to work for a boba shop."

Whatever Sharon might have said in response was lost to history, because that was the exact moment she encountered her first popping boba.

What had once been a perfectly tidy kitchenette was suddenly ground zero for a blur of purple fur and mango milk tea as Sharon's dash away from the traitorous beverage only succeeded in upending the bowl. Her flailing took her across the tile, through an unlucky chair, and finally into the side of the kitchen counter, pawing at her mouth the entire time.

"It exploded!"

Molly, being nearby, found herself covered in some of the chaos. Her mouth falling open, she blinked a few times, wiping milk tea out of her eyes and hair.

"Dude!" was all she could really blurt out.

"I thought boba were tapioca pearls!" Sharon was working her jaws frantically. Against all anatomical reason, she was certain whatever had just exploded in her mouth had somehow gone up her nose.

"It can be both! I said it was popping bubbles of juice!" Molly exclaimed, waving her arms to get the milk tea off as much as she could. "Did you lap them all at once?"

"Dude dude dude."

"I didn't know," Sharon sulked. One of the popping boba pearls had ended up nearby -- or rather, there were popping boba pearls everywhere, and Sharon just happened to be closest to this one. She studied it with great suspicion. Experimentally, she extended a hand to pat at it.

"Well now y'do. And you gotta clean it up," Molly said, grabbing some paper towels. She pulled off a couple, then ran water under it and used it to dab off the milk tea.

"Catch," she added, tossing the paper towels toward her.

Sharon watched the paper towels fly towards her. And kept watching as they sailed right past to bounce off the counter slightly to her left.

"I am a cat," she said, a little too innocently.

Molly squinted, folding her arms. "A talking mutant human cat with thumbs. And I can lift a tank. We're both where that's cool, but we also gotta clean stuff up when we make a mess. Savvy?"

Sharon grumbled, but gathered up the roll of paper towels. True to Molly's observation, the cat put those thumbs into use by tearing off the towels and folding them into neat squares she began to press against the tile. The speed with which she did this indicated this was far from the first time she had been ordered to clean up her own mess.

"Can lift a tank?" Sharon asked as she carefully pawed a handful of stray boba into its own quarantine zone. "Super strength is your power?"

Molly sat back down on her bar stool.

"Yep, one of 'em. I'm also unsquisa--Crap!" Her mouth fell open as she lifted up her comic book, spattered with milk tea.

"Sonova. This. This is not good. Sharon."

Sharon cocked her head, puzzled. "Was it collectible?"

"Yes!" Molly said with a frown, grabbing some paper towels to gently dab at the tea stains. She sighed.

"Now it's just...sticky."

The cat was quiet in a way that, in a human, might have seemed guilty. Mango milk tea still beaded her fur.

"Was it very old?" she inquired. "Replaceable?"

Molly stared at the cover, shrugging. "Not too old. A couple of years. I can probably get another copy at the comic book store in Salem Center. Should've just read the digital version," she said.

"I will pay."

Blinking, Molly tilted her head. "What? With cat money?" she said, then shook her head. "It's okay. I can replace it. Just be more careful, okay?"

"I will pay. I have some money, just no way to reach. But now I can log into my accounts." Sharon sat back on her haunches and began to lick the tea from her foreleg with decisive swipes of her tongue. "I wasted your tea, also. So I will pay."

Watching a very tall cat human cat groom herself was a little...different. Molly got distracted for a moment, then sighed. "Okay. Professor Xavier also gives us some money too in case we need it so like...yeah."

She kinda felt guilty having her offer to pay. But she did ruin her comic book.

"Then it is decided. You may expect my Venmo." And then, because Sharon was, after all, a cat, she added, "Even though it is still not my fault the boba exploded."
