Backdated Log: Clarice & Inez
Jan. 18th, 2023 07:21 pmOh holy hell, this is backdated. Yay backdating!
Inez visits the medlab. Clarice gets a date.
It took her a while, but eventually Inez found her way to the medlab. The promise of snacks was too strong to ignore, and the prospect of meeting someone new didn't hurt either.
She opened the door and poked her head inside, taking in all the equipment and things that she had no idea about. It was pretty impressive just the same, even if she didn't know what most of it was for. The more she explored the mansion, the more impressed she became with the place.
"Hello? Here for some snacks as promised," she called out in a playful voice. Though she really hoped that they weren't lying about that part.
Sliding out from her work cubby on a rolling chair, Clarice was a bright spot of colour in the otherwise mostly neutral medlab. Just how many shades of beige and eggshell did they make for cabinets and medical equipment? She wore green scrubs with yellow and pink appliqué flowers near the shoulder, wrapping around to her back along with matching crocs. "Oooh, you my new pincushion?" She asked, rolling to a stop.
"Maaaaaaybe?" she asked, intonation raising as the word dragged on. "I'm not that good with needles, though, or rather they're not too good with me." She wasn't a fan before her powers kicked in but now it really wasn't an issue for a number of reasons.
"Inez, I think we spoke on the journals, yeah?" Eyeing her scrubs, Inez gave her fellow mutant a little wave that turned into a thumbs up at her attire.
"Ah, right. Invulnerability. No problem. I'm Clarice," as a physician's assistant, she didn't have the fancy title, but as a physician's assistant, she did all the fancy work. She didn't need the title. "So really, I'm just going to do a basic physical, get your baseline stats. Nothing weird unless you make it that way," she explained.
Inez raised her hand and gave her a little smirk. "Nothin' weird, gotcha. At least not t'start, anyway," she chuckled. "So, uh, how do you plan on doin' the whole..." Inez pointed and vaguely gestured with her hands. "Baseline stats thing, if y'don't mind my askin'?" She was intrigued now by Clarice's 'no problem' attitude and was curious about how all of this was going to go.
Well, Clarice was purple and had been at Xavier's a long time. She was used to weirdness. That was the norm. "You've had a physical before?" she asked, handing Inez an iPad already cued with intake forms and gestured to a nearby exam table for her to sit.
"Mhm, been a minute, but I've had my share." Mainly from her time in the care of Uncle Sam, which wasn't the best time of her life, but she pushed those thoughts aside and took the proffered iPad. Inez took a seat and read through the form currently loaded on the device as she got comfortable. "At least I don't have t'wear one of those paper gowns that don't cover everything, right?"
"You can, we have them," Clarice offered, "But if you're more comfortable wearing your undies, that's fine. Not for all of it. And I'll draw the curtain so it's private. I'm less concerned with your last pap smear and more with heartbeat and respiration and various other things," after all, an STI panel was rather pointless on someone with a healing factor.
"Oh," was all she managed. It did make sense, though, but she hadn't expected that. It'd been a few years too, Inez just chalked it up to that. "Alright, just say the word then, doc. What do I need to do first?" She finished with the iPad for now and placed it down, kicking her feet a little and looking expectedly at Clarice.
"Finish that and I'll get everything else set up," Clarice nodded to the ipad, "And technically, I'm the PA. Jean's the doc. Though, in the field I'm your medic and your evac."
"Good to know," she confirmed. It definitely didn't hurt to know who to turn to for medical attention in the field, not that Inez hoped she'd ever need it any time soon. If she needed healing that badly, well, then it wasn't going to be good.
She scrolled, clicked, and signed everything as laid out by the iPad, then held it up and waved it towards Clarice. "All done, ma'am."
Taking it and setting it aside, she pulled a tray closer. "Lets see how many needles I break before I give up," she grinned, preparing Inez's arm and then very slowly sliding a canula into the vein. Blinking, she quickly attached a vial to the other end of the tubing and unclamped it. "So. Impenetrable skin?"
"Oh, uh," Inez replied, blinking herself at the penetration of her skin, out of surprise and not pain. "I guess... something that small can get through, maybe?" She'd never really tangled with anyone with a knife or sword, but still the result was a little surprising. It was better to find this out this way rather than in the middle of a fight. "Blunt objects don't do much, even a bullet, not that I've had too many of those thankfully. But yeah, huh." Interesting. She looked to Clarice with a raised eyebrow, curious to hear her analysis.
"I'm wondering if it's the size or the speed," more tests to figure that out! Not this moment though, she wasn't a lab rat or a pin cushion. "Or possibly the intent? Though that seems less likely." Quickly she finished the blood draw and slapped a bandaid on the spot.
"That's what she said," she said to the first part before realizing maaaaaybe that was a gauche thing to say in front of someone she hardly knew. Oops. Too late now. Inez rubbed the bandaid reflexively; there was no pain or further blood, thankfully, so she kicked her feet back and forth again. "I guess we'll find out, hopefully... I'll definitely be keepin' that in mind the next time I see someone comin' at me with some kind of a blade."
Cracking up, Clarice grinned, "Oh, we're going to get along fine," she agreed. It was best that she worked at Xavier's, if someone had made that joke in the ER or something, she likely couldn't've laughed. "I mean, I've got blades. We've got a Danger Room. Think of the options!" She was, clearly.
"Well... I 'low it's better to test it against a friendly face than out on the streets," she admitted, though the worry wasn't so much who was doing the cutting, but the cutting itself. "So yeah, we'll have to give it a go sometime. Y'gotta take me out for dinner first, though, before we go dancin'," she said with a chuckle.
"That's fair. Should I find a place that offers line dancing and BBQ or you more interested in exploring what's local? It you want to get really creative?" given her powers, anything was local if you took time zones into account.
"Oh," she said, not quite expecting an actual offer to have dinner, but more than happy to oblige. "Somethin' local or new would be nice, actually. I do love me some BBQ but you know what they say about too much of a good thing." She wasn't fully aware of Clarice's abilities or her range but it definitely would be exciting to get to do some exploring.
"Well then," Clarice considered, "How about homestyle Japanese? Not sushi. I know a great little diner in Tokyo, heart of the city, but off the beaten path unless you're a local," was she local? Nope. But she had found it once purely by accident and it was worth the time difference. She paused, considering, "We could do sushi though, if you want, instead."
"Tokyo?" Inez blinked at that suggestion, not because it sounded bad or anything, quite the opposite, but the locale definitely took her by surprise. "I... y'can go that far? An' it sounds great to me, though I ain't ever been that far afield or had anythin' that authentic, t'be honest." She just hoped she wouldn't embarrass the other woman if she was being honest, but it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. "It's a date, then, I guess."
"I can go to the moon," Clarice responded seriously, "Though, I don't recommend it. Not enough air," well, the moon was a guesstimate based on what she had done so far. Nothing on Earth was a strain or difficulty, and the one time she had been in space she had struggled to port down, but that was a combination of factors. Smiling, she resisted the urge to twirl or whatever, "Well, you don't need a passport. I haven't bothered with immigration or customs or whatever since I got here. And no jet lag."
"The moon? Like... the moon?" she asked, gesturing upwards to the sky, even though they were indoors. "Oh I hadn't even thought about that, but I guess it's not like y'have to go through customs or anythin'," Inez reasoned. "Well, when you put it that way then there's no reason not go." She paused. "...to, like, Tokyo I mean, not the moon. I'm kinda fond of oxygen, it's sorta a lifelong addiction if I'm bein' honest," she quipped with a wink.
"Right? Air goes in and out, blood goes round and round, any deviation of that is where you should probably call me," Clarice finished up the blood draw, pressing a wad of cotton against Inez' arm and shaking the vial. "Good news. This will keep me out of trouble for a while, since I'm assuming you haven't had a full blood work up since you presented."
"You assume correctly," Inez replied with a grin, moving her hand to take over applying pressure on the cotton wad. "I haven't had that done since I left the whole, y'know, forced position with the government." She hadn't had any need to get a check-up or anything since she'd been on her own, so this was probably a good idea to get an update on her medical situation. "Though I'm wonderin' if that'll be enough t'actually keep you outta trouble," she added with a smirk. "Just an intuition, I reckon."
"I mean..." Clarice trailed off suggestively, "the only real trouble I can't get myself out of is spending too much on my credit card. But. I try to be reasonable. Most of the time," she just really, really liked shopping. Limits and restrictions were stupid.
"Bein' reasonable is just like everythin' else, all things in moderation," Inez said with a wink. "Gotta let yourself get a little wild every now and then, or else what's the point, am I right?" Money wasn't usually a problem for her but she hadn't been working in a bit so she'd been restraining her own expenses too, but she couldn't pass up such an offer for sure. "Tell y'what, this one'll be on me, since you're providin' the travel and all."
Smiling, Clarice raised a purple eyebrow. "Absolutely not, I asked you out. You'll must have to figure out next time."
"Alright, I won't fight you too hard on it," she said with a laugh, raising her hands in mock surrender. "Between the transportation and payin' for it, I've really got my work cut out for me for next time, don't I?"
"I mean. Only if you're not the type to put out on a first date. And it's fine if you're not. Just options," Clarice wanted to make sure Inez knew this was a date, but also, there really wasn't any pressure to put out.
"Lucky for you I am exactly that type, dependin' on the company," Inez said with a grin. "And in this particular case, with the company bein' you, well..." She rubbed her chin and squinted at Clarice for a second or two before nodding. "Yeah, you're good on that front."
