Coming after her talk with Kyle, Sharon attempts to make amends with Alani. It is, probably, the thought that counts.
Sharon had gathered wildflowers for the occasion. There weren't many at this time of year, but she'd made an attempt. A few fluffy white sprays of thoroughwort, a splash of yellow wood sorrel, late-blooming wild carrot and purple love grass. It wasn't the most colorful bouquet, but it was obviously a good faith effort. It had even been wrapped in a sheet of tissue paper. The younger mutant set them down at Alani's feet and stepped back.
"I am sorry I murdered Dwayne the Cock Johnson," said the cat.
Alani blinked in surprise, a smile already forming as the younger woman laid the flowers down at her feet. Crouching to collect them she froze at the statement, before looking into Sharon’s yellow eyes and allowing herself to smile. It must have taken a lot for the girl to apologize and this wasn’t taken lightly by her. “Thank you for apologizing. You don’t have to, though, I’m not mad at you, and even if I had been, I woulda forgiven you without any gift.”
Turning the bouquet over, she finally asked with interest. “Did you find all these flowers yourself?”
"Yes. Am sorry it is not pretty. Right now not much blooms." Made doubly difficult by Sharon's partial color blindness; she'd spent a lot of time checking her finds against google. The cat fidgeted anxiously, unsure if the gesture was sufficient. "Will not kill any more named animals," she promised. Then, hoping to assuage some of the woman's concerns, she added, "Dwayne did not suffer. Snapped neck. Very quick. I made sure."
“Well, I think they're very pretty and I'll put them in a vase in the suite. That is good,” Alani nodded thoughtfully. The comment seemed to have been offered in a genuine attempt to ease her, so she ignored the pang of sadness to instead focus on Sharon. "I'm sorry, about the approach, I thought it would be better with Kyle, but instead we made you feel trapped and like you had to explain yourself. That wasn't my intention."
"Not Alani's fault. It is penance for my crimes." Sharon hung her head. "Apologize that I can give only flowers. Funeral would be more proper, but is nothing left. Fed most of Dwayne to Canadad's wolf so would not be wasted. I deboned first, for safety."
"Using all parts is important. And good on you for deboning, I’m sure it made eating easier for Kane’s dear wolf. I think once they’re cooked bones become brittle.” The curious musing was slightly absentminded, before she looked back at Sharon and offered another smile. "I do really appreciate it, love."
Relieved, Sharon ventured forward and pressed her face against Alani's arm. "I will be better," she promised. It was sincere, even if Sharon would have been the first to admit that her metric of 'better' might not strictly align to the rest of the world's. After all, hadn't Kyle said she was her own thing?
And while she hadn't been stiff, Alani softened, reaching out a hand to stroke Sharon's cheek. "Every day's a learning experience. Can't go back, just have to try and be better. I'm glad you're going to do better. In fact, I know you will, sweet heart."
