(Backdated) April gets dumped into the pool via cat antics and ends up chatting with Scott.
'WH–" April's startled yelp as she was clipped in the side by a blurred mass of purple fur was followed by a splash as Sharon pounced at Liam from behind where she'd been standing. The resulting fall was hard enough to cause water to go flying into the air as she sank beneath the surface, and a few seconds later her head popped up, tendrils moving wildly around her head as she spluttered.
"SHARON. LIAM. Take it away from the pool area or I'm dumping you both in here!" She yelled at the yowling, tussling bunch of purple and orange fur just at the edge of another group. Her hand reached out towards the edge of the pool, but instead of gripping the ledge she ended up with her hand on a foot instead. "Shi–hell." Her hand withdrew, wiping water away from her face. "Sorry!"
There had been a time, not that long ago, when the mansion had been full of students, full of shouting voices and the sound of running feet and the drama that only teenagers could bring with them. The sight of Liam and Sharon tussling by the edge of the pool, both of them rolling over and over, mindless of their surroundings and he couldn't help but remember. Remember when the mansion was a school, when he was just a little more than a teacher. The man was lost in his thoughts, in memories that swirled around him as a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
On a normal day it wasn't easy to sneak up on Scott, to catch him off guard, only this wasn't a normal day. Lost in his thoughts as he was he never saw April approaching him in the water till a wet hand touched his foot. An exclamation of shock was paired with Scott's startled jump, almost hopping before he caught himself, reaching down to offer April a hand. "You ok? The whirlwind catch you up too huh?"
"Just a bit," April agreed with a laugh, accepting the offered hand and pushing herself upwards with the other. "Glad I hadn't gotten food yet, that would've been a mess! Sorry for startling you, Scott. Enjoying the flying fur spectacle?"
The man's dark eyes flicked up to watch the cats rolling around by the pool as a nostalgic smile curled up his lips, a laugh echoing April's, "It...reminds me a lot of when the mansion was full of things like this. Kids just having fun, been way too long since we had a rain of potatoes or filled the mansion with snow....though there are always...unforeseen victims."
"Don't say that too loud, Sharon seems like the sort to get up to mischief and talk the rest of us into it. Next thing you know every cat in the house is high on catnip and there's a prank war that brings the house down around our ears." She paused for a minute. "Actually, that might be fun in designated areas. Turn the DR into a giant prank zone."
That drew a laugh from Scott as he shook his head, "Can you imagine Garrison's reaction to seeing the Danger Room turned into a giant warzone, might be worth it just for that. Though knowing my luck he'd probably find some way to get revenge that would be so much worse." Dark eyes flicked over to the purple cat, "Believe it or don't, the mansion pets have unionised and gone to war against us at least once before, why do you think Des has nicer food and a way nicer bed than I do?"
"He'd either love it or sit upstairs and brood at us," April agreed. "Boris would unionize, but he's so cute I give him almost anything he wants as long as it isn't my shoes or a lot of junk food. I mean, we train him, and he's pretty well behaved, but I'm a sucker for those big puppy eyes and his wagging tail."
"He can brood very loudly can't he? Though, I guess I can't talk...we do get lessons in brooding. Graduate course in mansion living." It was shocking when he thought about it, just how many of the elder mansionites had become proficient brooders. Was it something about their lives that drew it out of them? About this place? Or perhaps it was just that birds of a feather flocked together...though the most birdlike one amongst them would never be caught dead brooding. "At least you managed to train him a little. I tried with Des once and then just gave it up as a lost cause. She's a queen and she knows it."
"Oh, that was mostly Pyotr's doing. Now Illyana and I are attempting, but my Russian is awful so we've had a bit of a backslide. Worth it though, he's not quite furred enough to survive Siberia." She shrugged, and gave the older man a small grin. "Graduate-level brooding? That is impressive. I suppose all the death-defying activity might bring that out."
"Oh yeah, an advanced course, we have homework and everything." Scrott grinned before reaching up, rubbing a hand over his face for a moment as he looked over the pool, the sunlight glistening off the blue water and droplet of water dancing through the air. "There's more to what you say than I like to think but, that's what make days like this so important, so good. Even if we end up being drenched by people's antics."
April's face took on a distinctly mischievous look. "Like this?" she asked innocently, reaching out with a few quick tendrils and pulling Scott into the pool with a splash.
Scott's eyes only had the chance to widen ever so slightly before he splashed down into the water, sending water droplets spraying as the air was driven from his lungs in surprise. It took him a moment to gather his with and surface, wet hair hanging down over his eyes as he blinked owlishly at the woman in surprise. "Pain shared huh...since I'm already in the pool though..." A wicked grin touched his lips as his hand scythed through the water, launching a spray of water back at her.
