Darcy begins to put together a team.
Kevin had been clear. He and MA would support her, but Stacy's call had gone to Darcy, so Darcy had the lead on this.
'Okay, THINK, self. You can do this. Logic. What do you need, and who can you rely on or trade favors with?' Darcy paced in the small conference room she'd commandeered, tablet helpfully projecting things to a screen as she thought them out loud. "Okay. Fast, strength, sneaky, distraction. In and out, low harm. But first. Emergency transport."
She tapped her earpiece, thinking 'Call Clarice' at it. "Yeah, Clarice? Did you see that post about the deaths in Alabama? Well, we've got a problem..." Darcy explained the situation as succinctly as she could – the trapped mutant, the military barricades, the need to attempt to get her to safety with minimal casualties. "There's a chance the alphabets and acronyms are gonna show up, so we need to get in as close and as quiet as we can and get her out, maybe some distractions as necessary. You available?"
"Yeah," Clarice responded through her phone, "You need medical too or just transport?" Not that she was 'just' anything. In a situation like this with various federal agencies and military presence, not only were her powers an incredible bonus, but they needed experience as well.
"Maybe both? Unsure for now, most everyone we're going to come across is dead. Last we knew, our trapped mutant was unharmed and looking to hide. With the alphabets likely showing up... hm. I'll text Kane to meet you in the front, see if Molly can get up from the Chapel. Sooraya's at the community center, and Nica's volunteering today I think. I'll grab them. Hm. Better to ask you to port us to the mansion to change, or grab people at the mansion and port here?"
"Easier to all suit up and leave from the same place," Clarice responded almost absently as she started pulling things she'd need. Then she could send everyone through the same portal. She wasn't hindered by distance, but by weight, so she needed to keep that under control more than anything.
Darcy nodded from her end. "I'll round up a few helpers, then get you to port us back to the mansion to change and deploy. You want a fruit and cheese danish or a cinnamon roll from Betty's?"
"Cinnamon roll, with nuts," Clarice replied. God, those things were practically addictive and she was so grateful for her metabolism. Sometimes, there were perks to mutant powers. "Thanks."
"No problem. I'll call you again once we're ready for a port."
