Terry and Shatterstar discuss potential ways forward with his powers training after receiving the x-rays and commentary from Jean.

Shatterstar had a folder in his hand when he met with Terry, clearly anxious to show her the contents.

"Dr. Grey did my X-rays," he told her, opening the folder for Terry to see his bones. "She said they're less dense. I don't know. I didn't really get it. She used a lot of jargon." And Shatter hadn't wanted to admit he didn't know what it meant.

Terry gave Shatterstar a proud smile. "I'm so glad you were able t'get those sorted quickly. Jeanie's wonderful; I hope the whole process wasn't too aggravatin' for you." She accepted the folder from his extended hand, then moved over to the window that allowed people to view the various scenarios being run in the Danger Room. "Oh, she's left some notations, brilliant."

After taking a few moments to look over the notes and the arrows, Terry nodded to herself. She wasn't fluent in Medical, but she thought she got the gist. "Y'see here," she murmured, pointing at and circling Shatterstar's humerus, ulna, and radius. "According t'Jeanie, they're much less dense than a baseline human's, but they're no' completely hollow, like a bird's. So that means what I was hearin' durin' our sessions was resonance, just no'... what's the word -- it's no' pure. Alison'd know..." Trailing off, it took her a second to shake off her distraction. "I'll as her later. But, in addition t'buildin' up your endurance and strength when it comes t'your abilities, I think we ought t'do some research into resonance specifically. Because y'do well when I'm harmonising with you, but I think y'could do more."

"Are you going to make me sing?" Shatterstar said with a disgusted look on his face. His bones being weak, or less dense or whatever it was, might also explain why he sometimes got minor burns from his powers.

Despite herself, Terry chuckled. "No, I'm no' goin' t'make y'sing."

"Do you think it could be that my bones shake when I use my powers?" He asked, following that train of thought into the natural station. "And that's why it's tiring?"

Terry hummed softly before saying, "I think it's best t'go back to resonance. As its most basic, it's sound reacting with itself or with somethin' nearby. Everythin' in the world's got a specific frequency at which it lives, for lack of a better way t'say it. If I pitch m'voice just right, I can do thin's like shatter glass, which is when the sound I'm makin' vibrates at exactly the same frequency as the glass is, so it's got a... synchronous vibration. They're precisely matched.

"It also involves the pitch o'your voice, but that's more a me bit than a you bit," she grinned. "Since your bones're less dense, I think they're all together acting like miniature resonance chambers. As it's a natural mutation, I don't think you're in danger of actually damaging your skeleton, so the issue's more sorting out a resonance for y'to tune your powers to that doesn't hit that synchronous vibration. The trick there is to sort out if it has any impact on the level of your powers when you use them."

"What do you mean by synchronous vibration?" He asked, curious despite himself.

"And when I change the pitch of the vibrations I'm able to make it go sharper or wider, but the higher in pitch and sharpness the more exhausting it is. It's like it makes my bones shake too much."

Terry frowned a little as she tried to think of the best way to explain synchronous vibration. "So, everythin' in the world has molecules, aye? And they're all constantly moving about -- how fast they move, that determines their frequency. So... it'd be like... because I can tune the sound I'm makin' t'what matches the sound happenin' in your bones, that provides a bit o'stress relief for your skeleton. The synchronicity o'it means what I'm doin's havin' an impact on what you're doin'. I think what's makin' thin's more difficult for y'is that the higher in frequency y'go, the closer you're gettin' t'actually matchin' the frequency o'your bones. Which -- that has the potential t'be quite bad. Remember the explodin' glass.

"The exhaustion and the burns are likely your body an' mutation's way o'naturally tellin' y'to stop doin' what you're doin'," Terry paused again, tipping her head side to side as she considered what they might do to sort the powers issue out. "Hm. Might need t'see if it's possible t'direct the vibrations away from yourself? We should try an' see if you're able t'project 'em."

Shatterstar heard the subject of what Terry said loud and clear- "do not explode your bones". Unfortunately, he wasn't sure he could promise that. If he was in a situation where it was matching the frequency of his bones to take someone down, he would probably end up doing it.

He nodded in thought, even if he still wasn't completely clear on synchronous vibration.

"I get tired practically every time I use my powers," he said in annoyance. "It's like my body wasn't actually made for my mutation. But a tool is a good idea. Aren't there those metal rods for sound?"

Terry's expression blanked for a moment before she grinned. "Oh, tunin' forks!" Then, with less surety, "Tunin' forks? That should work, in theory. So far as -- wait, if we get y'to a point where y'can direct the vibrations outside yourself instead o'through your bones, a tunin' fork'd work well t'help y'get the right tone and... hm... maybe control it more?"

He had actually been thinking more of the sticks they used for musical instruments, but tuning forks sounded more practical. Shatterstar nodded. "I would like to try passing my vibrations through something and if my science classes are to be believed glass and metal are good for that. But metal is less breakable."

Also he may have an image in his head of using the blunt-edged swords he already had forming in his head.

"We can do that," Terry said, nodding. "I think we'll need t'look into what types o'metal might work best, but I believe it'll be copper. At least, that's what works for me?"

Shatterstar was not as sly as he thought he was when he casually made a suggestion "Maybe steel would be effective as well." He looked at the X-Rays again, skipping the notes all together to look at the air pockets in his bones. There didn't seem to be any obvious pattern to it. "I would like to try practicing today."

Terry fought and won the battle to keep the smile on her face from turning into a smirk. The boy wanted to use a sword, bless him. "Have y'got anything in particular in mind for practice today, then? I'll see who I can get t'come observe."

"Could we try the metal rod idea?" Shatterstar asked, nodding once before tying the braids that hung in his face back. "And I suppose we can do the humming. If we must."
